Extended cinematic universes are all the rage these days. And while it can't be denied that Marvel's universe has been wildly successful, I'm not sure that EVERYTHING deserves a cinematic universe. Nevertheless, some of this stuff has the potential to be great, if it all works out. I had high hopes for the DCEU, and then... well... But hey! Maybe Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman will right that ship. Hope so, anyway. And the extended Star Wars universe looks awesome, if the footage from Rogue One is any indication.

I'm just curious, which cinematic universes are you most interested in? Which ones do you think are a mistake? Which ones don't have a snowball's chance in hell of actually happening?

Only the old universes make sense and are legit because most others seem to be doing it just to do it. Hannah Barbera, Universal Monsters, Star Wars, MARVEL, and DC all have prior history to them with the Universal Monsters being the oldest granddaddy of all cinematic universes that followed. All of the other ones just seem to be trying to do it to do it right now - like Lego for example. Harry Potter too - might be good, but they're clearly trying to draw all of the profit they can out of the originals rather than it being a more creative decision. I should say I would feel fine for literary shared universes to be utilized as well, Robin Hood makes absolutely no sense at all - but Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer do or the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew do, etc.

can someone write them all down here because i dont know which all are in the make now ?

Oh yeah, I forgot about Lego. I guess they count too, since they have a Lego Batman movie coming out.

There's a poll at the top. I don't know why the thread started before I finished the poll. Never seen that happen before.

The MCU is my favorite.
I have hopes for Universal's Monsters Universe.
The DC Cinematic Universe needs to get me back on board before I just say "**** it." No pressure, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman.

We wouldn't have this option with Marvel. They blazed the trail, took the risks, and its paying off for them in dividends. Its an impressive feat.

Having watched the entirety of the MCU over the past couple of weeks - Iron Man 3 was the only movie where I cared about the characters. None of the others resonated with me like Tony's arc in IM3; likewise this one had the best humor of the Marvel lineup.

DCCU - I liked Supes in Man of Steel and Batman in B v S (this thing was way too short for what it was trying to do), and the overall tone set by the two. So for now, for me, it's going to be DCCU. Not much of a comics reader at the moment outside of the Ostrander Suicide Squad run and his Deadshot: Beginnings (which has been great so far). A lot of what I enjoy in the DCCU, tonally, is the same stuff I enjoy in prose fiction, so that's the kind of approach I've had to these movies.

Both came up short on their TV offerings, for me.

Weird... Iron Man 3 was the one film where I didn't feel for Tony at all. His whole PTSD thing just felt really fake to me. Still a good movie, but I felt like RDJ didn't bring his usual A-game there.

The Universal Monsters thing interests me but I'm not so sure it's going to feel as cool in the present day as it would have if they had set it during the Victorian era. Maybe though; I didn't think it would work with Sherlock Holmes and I was proven wrong. At least with the Universal one they're taking Marvel's approach and starting it with more second tier characters like the Mummy, Jekyll and the Invisible Man instead of enlisting big guns like Drac and Frank right out of the gate.

And the DCEU... like Boom said, they need to earn back my trust. I liked MOS but BvS was horrible and I have no faith in Justice League at the moment.

The Valiant one interests me (if it happens). Those heroes were always a bit different from DC and Marvel; they were sort of like the thinking man's Image in the early 90s. Whereas Image was really only concerned with being "grim and gritty" with most of their characters and showcasing artists who could draw perfectly stacked women in sexy poses, Valiant was more interested in crafting thought-provoking and imaginative stories with their heroes. Some of their stuff like Shadowman and X-O Manowar could make fascinating movies if done well.

Star Wars, I look forward to Rogue One and SW8.

Fox, I look forward to Apocalypse, Deadpool 2 and X-Force.

MCU, I look forward to Infinity War, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-man and Wasp, gimmie gimmie gimmie!

With DCEU I can't muster any excitement. It's a hot mess. I'm hoping they can salvage their sinking ship and turn things around.

My number one is the MCU. Second place goes to Star Wars. I'm a big fan of GI Joe, so I'm interested in seeing how that new one goes. DC is still my number 3, even though BvS killed a lot of my excitement for it.
As for the Universal monsters, I'm interested in seeing what they do. And I'll see anything with Tom Cruise.

A Sega Cinematic Universe would be awesome. Sonic, Ulala, Toejam, Earl, Ryo, Beat, Vyse, Ristar, Vectorman, Kid Chameleon, dragoons, robots, flying pirate ships and the undead in the same movie. Yeeeah boyyyy

That could be a lot of fun. I'd really love to see a Nintendo universe, but sadly, I don't think it's ever going to happen. At least not in my lifetime.

Actually, I don't really need a connected Nintendo universe. Just give me standalone Zelda and Metroid movies. I'd also love to see Castlevania and Dragon Warrior films.

The talent Universal seems to be attracting has me intrigued. Plus Universal Monsters is kinda the pioneer of the crossover film and I kinda want to see what an updated version looks like.

Another shared universe that is being made is the 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover.

Yeah, I don't think a Sega-crossover movie has a chance of ever happening, just wishful thinking. I could definitely picture a Smash Bros. movie happening though. Those games are massively popular, and Nintendo's characters far more recognizable. I'd love to see either one happen.

Marvel's been fun, although a bit burned out and there's been lots of garbage.

X-Men also burnt out I haven't seen Apocalypse yet, don't even know if I will
I did like the New Mutants, Sienkiewicz run, and they look to be going back to the source, so I might check that out.

DC looks interesting, pretty much hinging on Suicide Squad, which looks promising. Their JL setup isn't what I would have wanted though.

Looking forward to Rogue One and the rest of the new trilogy.
But I have absolutely zero interest in a young Han Solo or a Boba Fett movie.

Universal Monsters, I'll know when I see their first cross over or v. and how they handle it, but I like the idea, and harkening back to the classic meets.

X Men For Me all The Way 16 years in and we are just scratching the surface we got:

a rebooted all young fresh cast to move forward
we have the opportunity to go cosmic
villains like shadowking,mr sinsiter,onslaught,mastermind,etc.

not to mention we have deadpool 2,new mutants,x force and many future main x men titles to look forward too

The Monster Cinematic Universe has potential if Universal had the guts to do something novel but they'll probably go the Van Helsing movie route.

Marvel. Loved Spidey in Civil War. Looking forward to what they do with Captain Marvel, Guardians 2, and the Black Panther film.

What the heck is the Robin Hood expanded universe? Expanding into what -- doesn't he ordinarily interact with all the characters in his universe anyway?

I don't think they'll go that way. The Van Helsing route they basically all wind up dead or hunted and the universe ends.

I voted other. Legendary/WB Godzilla/Kong universe.
Disney owns my other favorites. Star Wars and MCU.

I'm surprised they haven't started churning out more films from the LOTR universe.

Marvel and Star Wars for me. I WANT to be able to say the DCEU, since they have my favorite characters, but their current creative direction just kills my interest.
