*second thread with spelling mistakes changed*

Come October I enter in to my 3rd and final year in studying in a BA honours degree in fine and applied art. in my second year I was able to a wide range of areas to see which I preferred (got to skip first year due to having another qualification) but all my life have been interested and been reasonable alright (I’m not amazing but I’m not totally crap either) at illustration but from around 1999 I have grown quite and in interest and been active in photography. So I can’t decided which to choose as my final years subject

I enjoy illustration and still do it (mostly comic book stuff) in my spare time and always seem to doodle. I’ve also had some of my fan based work publish in official material

Yet I get a bigger outside response to my photographic work and have even won awards with it and sold a few prints.

There is a possibility of trying to both, which I would love but its convincing the college to go for it.

What do you lot think I should do.

Honestly, It doesn't really matter. You can get a degree in illustration and still sell your photos, just as you can have a photography degree and sell illustrations. I guess it just depends which you want more lessons in and which you feel you have a good enough grasp of. A good percentage of learning is done on one's own.

Can we see some of the illustration stuff you had published?

Farting would be a good major for you to take.

I suggest majoring in Poultry Farming.

Why choose? Try going for both.

i dont want to turn this in to an art thread, there one my site in my sig if you wish to see them

Whatever you choose im sure youll be getting a minor in education as well since you really cant do **** with either.

Neither. I just went through 5 years majoring in TV/Video Production and now I don't want anything to do with it. The arts & entertainment business is filled with selfish, close-minded, self-centered, self-serving, immoral, socially-ill people and the business barely pays. I should've stuck with my original major in business, and I advise you to do something along the same lines. Once you know how to build a business and manage people, you can do whatever the hell you want. And more importantly, it doesn't take 4-5 years paying insanely high college costs & tuition for a bunch of crocks to teach you how to photograph or draw. Please trust me on this one - you either have it, or you don't, and if you do, there's nothing in that arena you can't teach yourself. Join the local library, go to Barnes & Noble and start buying good books on the subjects you want to learn, and find an internship or apprenticeship somewhere and avoid losing your time, your mind, and your money in this big business called Higher Education. You don't need it.

Illustration is something that you can parlay into graphic design if you have enough computer savvy and training in that field, which is something that there are many employment opportunities available for. Photography is a bit more limited when it comes to that, but it sounds like that's where your passion lies. Perhaps you could arrange to do both with your school by finding a way to tie the two areas of study together in a unique way that you can present to the school's board of directors in a way that suggest you have a vision of making the two work cohesively in a career path that warrants getting the double degree.

You just described EVERY business under the sun, my friend. It's like that everywhere. The arts & entertainment business doesn't have a monopoly on all of that by ANY means.

guys i already have been doing both all for the past year so neither isnt really an option. this si my final year of college so i'm not about to change my degree

i already have a high qualification in graphic design and though i enjoyed it there are elements of it that i didnt enjoy that would annoy me too much to make a major carrer out of it. i hated typography the rest i didnt mind.

the way my course works, i do a number of modules( projects) from ocober till chritsmas, then from januray till may i do a whole new set.

the past year, my second year i did till christmas website design and graphic photography. where as from januray i did fine art photography

sadly my art college doesnt offer a full fledge drawing module but rather life classes. the only way i would have got to draw in my second year was to take fine art painting which i hold my hands up and admit i have no talent in painting(unless its digital)

I'd definantly take both since you would really be desperate for the bread and bacon...maybe you could try buying every possible lottery ticket.
