Which of the New 52 will you be sticking with?

I'm very selective when coming to my comics but I'm sticking with:

Batman
Justice League
Wonder Woman
The Flash
Green Lantern
Aquaman
Deathstroke

I'm willing to give these titles a chance:

Stormwatch
Demon Knights
Blue Beetle
The Savage Hawkman
Catwoman
Redhood and the Outlaws
Superman

Well I picked up Firestorm... but I'm feeling it was a mistake. The story felt disjointed and I found myself not liking either of the main characters.

I actually plan on keeping almost all of my New 52 books.

I'll probably end up dropping Detective Comics because even though I feel that Tony Daniel has brought his A-game, it's still an inferior Batman book to Batman and Batman & Robin and two Batman books are enough for me when there are so many other books out there that I actually like a lot.

I'll probably end up dropping Blue Beetle, Justice League Dark, and Legion Lost after the first arcs due to my massive disappointment with them.

You really thought BB was that bad?

Having yet to read much about the Reyes arc, would anyone care to give their opinions about the Blue Beetle?

I'm rather interested because the Blue Beetle reminds me a bit of Guyver.

Justice League
Batman

And because I trust Johns, I'll give Aquaman another issue to pick up the pace.

Action Comics
Animal Man
Aquaman
Batgirl
Batmen and Robin
Birds of Prey
Blue Beetle
DC Presents: Deadman
The Flash
Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern New Guardians
Justice League International
Nightwing
Red Lanterns
Static Shock
Stormwatch
Superman
Swamp Thing
Wonder Woman

Orange = Definitely keeping.
Blue = Giving it another issue.
Red = Dropping

Not bad, just very underwhelming. Very, very, very, VERY underwhelming.
How was it underwhelming though?

I mean, for me, it was a little uninteresting purely because it's essentially the same origin we just read 5 years ago. But if I were a new reader, it'd be pretty cool. And actually, I kinda felt it was a bit more engaging than the original BB was.

I thought it was pretty terrible. A stillborn do-over of Jaime's previous introduction without any of the warmth and charm that made him so endearing the first time around. Jaime used to be that rare kid who was really devoted and loyal to his parents; now he's a typical angsty teenager who lashes out at his parents for selfish bulls***. Paco was a roguish but generally decent childhood friend of Jaime; now he's a dropout and a f***ing gang member. There were a lot of little things like that that added up to a completely disappointing first issue for me.

Oh, I agree it's a do over.

At the same time, it did some things better than the previous series. IMO, the first series took way to long to delve into any explanation of what the Reach was, and the actual origin of the Beetle. It's been, well, 5 years since I read those issues, but I remember A LOT of meandering around the first 12 issues or so.

Don't get me wrong, the cast was characterized wonderfully, but plot-wise, there was a lot to be desired.

The new series had the opposite problem. Storywise it seems quite strong, it's just characterization adjustments that need to be made. I'm not really worried about Jaime. I'm betting that'll even out over the first arc. But I do agree, Paco was disappointing.

Keeping:
Animal Man
Men of War
Swamp Thing
Batwoman
Demon Knights
Batman
Nightwing
Wonder Woman
All-Star Western
I, Vampire
Justice League Dark

Maybe:
Action Comics
Superman
Resurrection Man
Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE

Now mind you: I enjoyed ALL of these listed books. But those last 4 were the ones that intrigued me, more so than the other 10 books I bought that I'm dropping. But with these, i'll probably give a few more issues with before doing anything. With the Dark Horse books and Marvel books I buy, on top of a bunch of trades that DC is releasing in the coming months, I really don't have the money to buy alot of these books.

Well, in fairness, the Reach wasn't really as much of a concern as establishing how Jaime was connected to the Blue Beetle legacy in those early issues the first time around. This time they don't have that 'problem.' And by 'problem' I mean rich history that added to the character's sense of belonging in the DC universe.

Yes yes, it's stupid that DC rebooted everything. I don't disagree with that. Especially for BB...as it's not like his origin or first series was at all out of date or anything.

In any case, I would've been really engrossed in the original story if they had really delved into his Legacy. I don't really feel as though they did that very successfully, though.

I'm not trying to turn this into a bash fest on the original series, but suffice it to say, I don't think it really picked up steam until it reached issue 12 or so.

This series, however, if it can correct a few characterization problems, could be pretty good.

I agree, the first few issues of the original series didn't wow me, now that I think about it. It actually got a lot better when Rogers started writing on his own. But the first few issues still had a kind of innocence and charm to them, what with Milagro and Jaime being set up as the character we all know and (those of us who managed to get over Ted) love. I think it's the tone, more than anything else, that I find really offputting about this new take.

Yeah, like I said, the characterization is what made those early issues work.

The tone to me did seem a little odd... It did seem to be more...cultural(?) than the first series (and I'm not just saying that because of all of the random Spanish words thrown in)...which I actually liked. But there was also this sense of everything kinda being...rushed. I definitely hope that doesn't continue.

But still, much like the original series, I think it could grow into something better. Which is why I couldn't say it was a disappointment for me. It's not the best title out there, but I wasn't disappointed.

Because it was a total retread of Jaime's origin, but without any of the fun. You see, what made the first Jaime Reyes book so great was that it was one of the most fun books put out on the comic stands.

Here what we have is the exact same thing I read 5 years ago. Except it was better 5 years ago. This was a soulless, inferior, and dull retread of something that I had already enjoyed.

I guess if you are a new reader, you won't have a problem with it because in the end, it's not a bad comic. But if you're a huge fan of the previous series, it's a massive disappointment.

My conversation with Corp is the best rebuttal I can offer.

Yeah, it was just a dumb idea to redo BB's origin anyway. And yeah, it failed in some places. But I do think it was stronger than the first series in some other places.

Made my first drop of the new 52 with Stormwatch. The more I thought about it, the more I found myself not caring for it, and I picked up Flash and I, Vampire on whims and enjoyed them both enough to keep with them, so I'll need the space anyway.

Looks like the new 52 pickup for me is this:

Action Comics
Animal Man
Swamp Thing
Frankenstein
Wonder Woman
Batwoman
OMAC
Justice League Dark
Flash
I, Vampire
Demon Knights

Still haven't picked up Aquaman or Resurrection Man's first issues, and I'm still kind of mulling about those. I may pick Stormwatch in trade later if I keep hearing good things, too. Demon Knights was extremely underwhelming for me, so I hope it improves or I may very well drop it as well.

Now that all of the #1s are out and I've read nearly everything I wanted to, I've narrowed my pull list down to these titles...

Action Comics
Batman
Batman and Robin
Blackhawks
Detective Comics
Justice League
Legion of Superheroes
Stormwatch
Supergirl
Superman
Wonder Woman

Blackhawks and LOSH I feel like I could drop at any time. Gonna stick with them for a little while and see where they go. I really enjoyed Swamp Thing and Animal Man as well, but may just go the digital route with those. All in all, I'd say Action and Batman were my two favorite titles of the relaunch.

You jerks convinced me to try more comics, so now I have new lists:

That's a pretty strong list, Corp.

No interest in Flash? :o

I read Flash and while the art is beautiful the comic didn't do a thing for me. I will update my previous list when I finish reading this week.

I've bought Justice League, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Green Arrow, JLI, Swamp Thing, Batman and Robin (went through hell to get this), Green Lantern, and Batman. The only one I'm dropping as of right now is Green Arrow, which hurts so much cosidering my soft spot for the character. He's a character that I've been wanting to get into for years but every comic I've picked up on him, with the exception of Quiver and JT Krul's first arc last year, has kept me at bay. I really wanted to like the first issue, but it was too "ehh". It sucks, particularly when compared to the rest of the books I've picked up, esecially Snyder's Batman. I've still got All Star Western, DCU Presents, Catwoman, Aquaman, The Flash, JLD, Hawkman, and Superman left to go, but overall, I'm extremely pleased with everything I've gotten from DC, so let's see.
