After much deliberation I have decided to be much tougher on my books. For example, I used to have a standard of not dropping books that I had over 100 issues of. However, I've had to raise the standards once too many books have reached the 100+ club (Amazing Spider-Man, Aquaman, Avengers, Batman, Captain America, Daredevil, Justice League, Justice Society of America, Superman, and Teen Titans) and several approaching it (Fantastic Four, Invincible Iron Man, Outsiders, Uncanny X-Men, and Wonder Woman).
It was time to raise the standard to books that I have over 200 issues of now, which now reduces the "Do Not Drop" List to just Avengers (272 issues), Superman (257 issues of first series, 96 issues of second series, 1 issue of third series), Teen Titans (242 issues), and Amazing Spider-Man (222 issues), with Batman, Daredevil and Aquaman eventually guaranteed to join. Far more manageable if you ask me.
Here's how I'm leaning so far with the New 52:
Keeping
Action Comics - I loved the first issue and the second one was even better, love how Morrison is making Superman feel relevant in today's world.
Animal Man - The biggest surprise for me in the New 52. This was really the book that got me hooked on the DC Dark line. I loved it so much that I actually went back and now I'm starting to check out the Grant Morrison stuff.
Aquaman - Still my favorite of the New 52. I'm in love with this book.
Batgirl - I was initially wary of Barbara Gordon returning to the role of Batgirl, but if anyone could do it successfully, it would be Gail Simone. And she succeeds above my already high expectations.
Batman - Scott Snyder has succeeded with the first issue of Batman the same way he did in his run on Detective Comics. Can't wait to see how this goes.
Batman & Robin - This book was automatically on the fence since Peter Tomasi's previous run on the book was so underwhelming. Luckily however, this run isn't. Love the dynamic that Bruce has with Damian and Bruce learning how to be a father.
Batwoman - J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman aren't as good as Greg Rucka, but really, it's like going from an A+ book to an A book, which is still pretty damn good.
Birds of Prey - While the first issue put me on the fence, the second issue was a much needed improvement.
Demon Knights - I'm loving this book, especially the dialog, Vandal Savage's in particular.
the Flash - This book is just utterly brilliant with beautiful artwork and great storytelling. I was initially afraid that this wouldn't have worked out but it does. Two issues in and I'm liking Manapul and Buccellato's take on Barry Allen more than Johns'. A rare instance where a writer/artist creative team actually works out really, really well.
Green Arrow - While not the best book of the New 52, I enjoy following up on Green Arrow and Krul has done a decent job rebooting Ollie.
Green Lantern - A continuation of Geoff Johns' saga on the Green Lantern mythos, which I already loved. The book is still just as good.
Green Lantern Corps - It's about damn time that John Stewart got some characterization in the comics beyond just killing a planet and being the backup token black Green Lantern that no one really cares about. I also love Guy Gardner.
Green Lantern: New Guardians - Can't wait to see the Guardians get their comeuppance. And Kyle wielding all the rings is just freaking awesome.
I, Vampire - Evil vampires seeing themselves as freedom fighters is awesome. I love the tension between Andrew and Mary. I love how evil Mary is. I love how Andrew is fighting against his kind. I just really love this book. Which is a shock to me considering how I dismissed it as some Twilight ripoff when it was announced.
Justice League - It may be the weakest Geoff Johns comic, but a weak Geoff Johns comic is still usually a pretty damn good comic. I feel like Justice League is doing what it needs to do. It's an enjoyable comic primarily designed to showcase Jim Lee's talents and attract new readers.
Justice League International - Dear Brad Meltzer, this is how you set up a Justice League roster. I'm loving the book's fun tone and fast pace.
Nightwing - A great compliment to Snyder's Batman.
Resurrection Man - I initially had no interest in this title, but after checking out the first issue, I'm intrigued enough to keep going with it.
Stormwatch - The second issue improved upon the first which I already really liked.
Superman -Not even being considered for dropping due to Superman being in the 200+ club. Very wordy, and not as good as Action Comics, but I'm really liking this book. Sad to see Perez leaving.
Swamp Thing - Yet another brilliant DC Dark title.
Teen Titans - This book ****ing blows

(Teen Titans is on the verge of becoming a 300+ book for me).
Wonder Woman - So far, I've really liked Azzarello's take on Wonder Woman. Zeus being Diana's father doesn't bother me the way it does for others.
On the Fence
Blue Beetle - Wow....talk about a book that didn't need a reboot. The second issue is a much needed improvement that makes me more accepting of this reboot, but I'm still a bit wary.
Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. - The second issue wasn't as good as the first, but I still find this to be a fun book. The problem is that I have bought a lot more DC books than I originally intended to. This may get put on the chopping block simply due to the fact that I don't have an unlimited amount of funds. This book needs a different artist though.
Legion of Super-Heroes - The Legion of Super-Heroes is another book that I like to typically follow. Under my old standards of not dropping books that I have over 100 issues of, the Legion would have been safe. However, under my new over 200 issues standard, the Legion no longer applies. And while I really enjoyed Levitz's previous series, this new series just doesn't feel as great.
O.M.A.C. - It's a really fun book. I love the Kirby-esque art style Giffen is taking with the book and I no longer automatically dismiss Dan DiDio's writing skills. It's really in the same situation that Frankenstein is in, fun, but I have too many books as it is.
the Savage Hawkman - Hawkman is another character I like to follow, but this book is just alright. Unlike other books where the quality has improved with the second issue, it has just stayed the same here which isn't a good thing IMO. The art is horrendous as well. I'm leaning towards dropping this book.
Dropping
Detective Comics - Tony Daniel did bring his A-game, I'll give him that. The writing is good and the art is vastly improved over Daniel's previous run in Batman. However, I'm buying three Batman books and the other two are just vastly superior.
the Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men - The second issue was much better than the first one, but I still hate the premise of this book. It's just god awful. DC should have gone with Brian Clevinger's pitch.
Justice League Dark - I got hooked on the DC Dark line after really enjoying Animal Man, Swamp Thing, I, Vampire, Demon Knights, Resurrection Man, and Frankenstein. So I was really anticipating this book after initially rejecting it. It failed to live up to my high expectations. This book is the very definition of mehtastic.
Legion Lost - The second issue was much better than the first, but it's still quite a snoozefest.
