They're not some light differences, it's a completely different sport, in fact American football and rugby are almost the same.

Having played and watched both for years I can confirm that soccer and rugby are really not similar at all. Most people are not great at both as they require very diffferent skills and strengths.
 
I chose Basketball. Football depends on the position. In BBall, great teams a greatly conditioned and have to have excellent stanima and endurance. That's what made Wooden's Bruins so great.

Hockey is incredibly taxing on the body when played full out. This is why most teams have at least three lines and why hockey players often don't play for more than ten minutes out of a period.

This poll doesn't work because you have to train different ways for different sports. Let's just all agree that it isn't baseball.
 
Rugby is different from football/soccer. Then again, what do you expect from someone who thinks Goku>>>>>Superman.
 
As someone who has done 5 of your list, let me say...boxing is the roughest. You are having youself beaten, with practically no protection. The object of the sport is to endure physical harm and cause physical harm to others. Its not easy. Its not fun. Marathon running would be a close second, but as long as you are in decent enough shape, anyone can do it if they know how to pace themselves.
 
Boxing, to me, is the sport in which you must be in the greatest physical shape to play.

Boxing (at its highest level) requires the boxer to be both muscularly built and cardiovascularly fit.. A brutal mix of muscle exertion and constant motion.

I need to look for the stat somewhere... But I think I remember reading that boxers' heart rates are higher during activity than any other sport.

Another point... Basketball players can play 2, sometimes 3 games a week and still be fresh. Boxers must train, train, train, and train for months to prepare for a single fight. Not to mention meet weight.

I, personally, think the answer is boxing. Hopefully you will, too.

Come off it mate, are you telling me that a Boxer has a training regime that is more dedicated than a Darts player.

This is a tough poll to do as every diffferent sport works different muscles, and many times it depends on the person themselves and their own genetic disposition as well as their own natural physical build. What may come easier to one person, may be more difficult to another.

Also, individual sports versus team sports have different effects on the body as well, as there is different wear and tear on the body.

What Ongie said about boxing is true, and I'd also have to say Fencing or Gymnastics can individually be very demanding on the body as well. Basketball and American football have impact on the body and are pretty much age finite with regard to competitive level.

Swimming works the entire body, and I while I have historically been a runner through the years, I can see where swimming is actually working my body out as much if not more, with less impact on the joints.

While I agree with Victor Von Doom's assessment, and I'm personally not into baseball, it is an activity that does take a measure of skill to perform. This is most notable with regard to hitting the ball, as one wants to ensure they stand properly and not be hit by the ball and risk permanent damage. Also, sliding into base takes a measure of skill to perform properly so as to ensure no injury occurs.

Rock Climbing and skiing are also sports which require a measure of skill as well to perform, as failure to do so may have detrimental effects on one's body if they are injured.
