After the major success of AVATAR, Hollywood seems to be going crazy for 3D. Many top studios have been announcing adding 3D to their latest blockbuster films, and now news breaks that Sony has decided to make their next Spider-Man film go that route.

IMO, it'd be silly at this point to think that Fox wouldn't toy with the idea of 3D for X-MEN. They were the distributors of AVATAR...they saw revolutionary 3D technology that was used in a non-gimmicky way, and of course they saw the tremendous profit. I don't think it would be too far-fetched for them to consider using it on one of their top existing franchises.

So my questions...

Which Upcoming X-MEN Films (If Any) Would Lend Itself Best To 3D?

Do You Think Fox Will Consider Using 3D?

Do You Want To See An X-MEN Film In 3D?

Probably First Class. I can't imagine a Japan film using 3D in any effective way.

Deadpool could probably make a forth wall breaking joke about being in 3D though.

I would say Deadpool would probably work best, with all his 4th-wall breaking antics. They could really have fun with that, and it would be a little different than what we normally see in 3D right now.

Although I'd definitely enjoy a 3D Wolverine movie... :cwink:

I can just imagine Deadpool sticking his hand or something at the audience and saying "If you're watching this in 3D, this probably looks really cool to you."

Exactly! That's why I think it work best - although they have to make sure it's not too cheesy.

I wouldn't mind seeing a rendering of one of the X-Men films in 3D to see how it would look first, but I had to go with Deadpool for the poll. IMO Phoenix scenes in TLS rendered in 3D would be kinda awesome

I loathe 3D, but I think a Deadpool film would work great for 3D because of his lovely ability to bring down the 4th wall.

You couldnt take the X-Men films seriously if they were in 3D... However Deadpool's comedic approach translated to big screen would be the portal to have 3D.

Can imagine Deadpool pulling some quick duel blade move that splatters blood onto the screen in 3D.

There is only one movie i think that visiually would of been great in 3D - Marvel that is, Ghost Rider... That scene with the bike down the side of the building, chain flying everywhere.

Avatar and X-Men are two different genre's... Avatar is fantasy - 3D works well because the concept isnt story driven. The reason the movie was good was the graphics, the art... all visual elements really. - X-Men is a sci-fi based movie, its difficult to include 3D into Sci-Fi work, unless your traveling through space. And even then, because the genre is usually very serious... (Yeah you try and explain that the whole concept is fictious to a star trek fan... who will correct you if you get your science wrong? it's Sci-Fi, you could say space pixies make the spaceship fly... actually you cant because pixies are fantasy) but im losing the point, or plot... probably both.

X-Men would be terrible in 3D because the movies wasnt about visual stunning but a well structured story. *cough x3 and wolverine cough*

All of the scenes on the human colony were Sci-Fi in tone. And the 3D effect was the coolest in a lot of those scenes. To say Sci-Fi won't work in 3D is ridiculous to me.

During a conversation he pulls out a paddle ball and starts playing with the 3D.

Wade: Trippy.

Other guy: WTF ?

Now GREEN LANTERN is going to be in 3D. Maybe Reynolds will mention 3D to the producers now :p

I think an X-Men film could work in 3D depending on the story and what's needed visually. I think X3 would have worked very well in 3D...on a visual level. X1, X2, and Wolverine not so much (although Wolverine in Japan might be cool).

yeah but Green Lantern is a character whose power is a green lightshow, it wasnt so much of a decision as a moth to an unavoidable buzzing light

I agree. Like I said, it depends on what's required visually in the story. I don't want anything to be 3D just for the sake of it. It has to serve a purpose. After seeing a couple of up-converted films, my stance is that if they're going to do it 3D, then film in in 3D instead of up-converting the film. I'm not a fan of that process so far.

Same here.

Pretty much these. Deadpool is the only one right off that I would seriously consider for the 3D treatment, because of the comedic element as mentioned before, which would fully be in with the character. I don't think that any of the other parts of the X-franchise really fully need the 3D treatment or could fully take advantage of it like Deadpool without going too far to try and force it to fit.

On the arguments of comparing them to stuff like Avatar and Green Lantern, it's debatable how much Avatar could have needed 3D, but it used it to fully immerse the viewer in this brand new world we know nothing about. The X-Men are essentially set in our world with stuff we mostly already know about, so it's not really needed on that front. Green Lantern will have a lot of things that could fly out or be used in a 3D manner with all the constructs that would come from the power rings, so I can see that for using them, but not all the mutant powers could fully lend themselves to 3D, so again, I don't see it as something that could fully benefit the films or allow them to take fully advantage of the technology.

nah.... might as well spend the time working on some kick-a$$ cgi

X-Men 4. Picture a ticked off James Marsden blowing a hole in the side of a 30 ft Sentinel. Now picture it in 3D.
Cyclops would own in 3D

I think a Storm spinoff would be the most amazing visually, 3-D lightning bolts, hurricanes, bolts storms and tidal waves, and set in places from the dessert to the African jungle... I'd pay to go see that in 3D especially if a brilliant story was behind it
