Which way will the FF jump in Civil War?

My guess is that Reed will support it(he's never been much of a political animal) but Sue, Ben and Johnny will oppose it. Sue fears that their son Franklin (and possibly daughter Val when she reaches puberty) will be forced to register their powers under the SHRA. Johnny for one has never been one to let bureaucrats tell him what to do, and Ben, mindful of the victimisation of his coreligionists under Nazi rule, will take the same view

I think this accurate-anybody disagree?

Well it looks like Ben will be joining Sue and Cap with the Resistance. At first I thought the Iron Man team was unbeatable, but now with Cap, Sue, Thor, AND Ben. Look out Reed!

He's been supporting it for the last two months. In fact he's a central member of Tony Stark's team.

Which is contradictory to his stance way back in Simonson's run on the FF where he testified against a similiar initiative. Either Marvel counts on us not to remember back that far (which was a while ago ) or they just wanted all the "eggheads" (Tony Stark, Hank McCoy, Reed) all in one basket. Even if you don't count the earlier story, Reed doesn't always trust the government to do the right thing, after all he went out on a limb in Authoritative Action and then had to pay some hefty fines for it.

I had forgotten about that.
Just makes me dislike the whole Civil War "event" even more.
Six months of wasted time when we could be getting otherwise decent stories from JMS and McKone.

I was surprised that they actually followed up on the Don Blake/Thor thing in the current issue, though.
I think JMS continues to do a decent job, but I resent his hand being forced by Quesada & co. to create this schism between Reed & Sue.

I agree about this whole crossover hijacking the FF title for sake of these tie-ins. At the per issue price these days, it just doesn't behoove me to buy all these crossovers. It was different back in the days of 35 cent comics!

I remember John Byrne saying it always annoyed him that EIC Jim Shooter forced some Secret Wars stuff into the FF. He had to come up with the time loop scenario to explain how the Beyonder was able to put Doom on the Battle World when he just got blown to subatomic particles in FF#260!
I just don't find this whole concept of the registration act a very compelling storyline and too many characters are just there as window dressing to the plot.

I respectfully disagree. I like the fact that there is a Chief concerned with the overall continuity of the Marvel Universe. Being a director/chief means that you sometimes have to tell the captains of their prospective vessels to adhere to the big picture.

Do you honestly think Byrne would have involved anyone elses ideas about what's best for the FF if he didn't write it? Or for the entire Marvel Universe for that matter. His ego told him that only he could chose the future for the X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four. At least that's what I observed in my long love affair with his work.

Hey. I love the guy to death, but he is a good example of how sometimes you have to acquiesce to the King.

On a side note.. wasn't it Claremont who had Reed in Doom's armor for a bit and he dreamed up that 4 Corp. thing where he would bring Utopia to the Earth and the entire Galaxy. Methinks Reed might be thinking that way again.

That may have worked when it was Stan in charge.
But from Shooter to Quesada, forced participation in multi-title crossovers has done a hell of a lot more harm than good.

Some crossovers from the Shooter era worked well. Some didn't. When it works, its a fun ride, when it doesn't its like a trainwreck. I like the concept of Civil War, the SHRA, and its ramifications. But I agree with Iron Maiden that "too many characters are just there as window dressings to the plot." Especially, Reed. Perhaps as things unfold this will be corrected in the FF's own mag and the Civil War mini. I will try to remain optomistic but the current regime really keeps lettin me down.
I did thoroughly enjoy FF 538's look at Ben's feelings on the entire Civil War plotline. Well done in regards to Ben, JMS! Now, lets really flesh out the thoughts and emotions of Reed and Sue! Before (Reed especially) gets totally lost in Marvel's need sell their summer time spectacular.

I agree, JMS made some great lemonade with what he was "assigned" for this cross-over. I'd just prefer to see him left alone, and not have his storylines dictated by that lying hypester Quesada. ("Two of the FF will die, gone, nevermore" - J.Quesada's LIE,Feb.2006)
