so I was looking through wikipedia and found this:

Abraham Whistler's place in the traditional Marvel Comics continuity is uncertain as he was created specifically for the movies. Also, the comics have established Jamal Afari as Blade's childhood tutor who eventually became a vampire himself forcing Blade to kill him. Whistler may be loosely based on "Bible John" Carik, a character appearing in Marvel's 1994-1995 Blade series. Bible John, while not exactly a mentor to the already seasoned Blade, did serve as an advisor as well as a source of exotic weapons and information on vampire lore. Bible John, did also have a similar long haired disshevelled appearance to Whistler as portrayed by Kris Kristofferson, with the exception of being covered head to toe with crucifix tattoos.

Although Whistler's first appearance is the Spider-Man animated series (at least 4 years before the first Blade movie), it is claimed by David Goyer that the writers of the animated episode stole the character for their own use.

Any truth to that?

I never heard that. I was always under the impression that the Whistler character was so well liked in the show that they put him in the movie.

I remember him on the show, and I just assumed he was in the comics. Then I read and found out he wasn't and figured the movies borrowed him. Then I read further....

Yes. David Goyer posted on the Blade Trinity forum that the cartoon had ripped the idea off from his script.

As for the rest of the Wikipedia article it's true that Whistler was never in the comicbooks and personally I feel that the Bible John association is just a total red herring. Bible John was a nutcase who had been driven insane by psychic visions of a vampire apocalypse and escaped from the asylum to find a way to stop it. Cue entry into Blade's life. He scarred his entire body with crosses as a defence against vampires and on at least one occasion a vampire trying to grab him recieved a burned hand for his trouble.

I've always believed that Whistler was based on Quincy Harker, the wheelchair-bound, gadget-making, mentor of Rachel Van Helsing and ally of the trio of vampire hunters who later became the Nightstalkers of the comicbooks. I put the Quincy Harker question to Goyer and Goyer flatly denied it.

*shrugs*

How did the series writers even have access to the script?

It really doesn't make much sense. I guess Goyer was just trying to cover his ass

Look at both characters, theyre completely different in every shape and from, they only have the name in common.

Date With Jessica Biel to Be Auctioned

AP
Jessica Biel is best known for her role on the WB show 7th Heaven.

Talk About It: Post Thoughts

DENVER (July 15) - A date with Jessica Biel will be up for bid next week to help raise money for a teenager who lost her leg in a prom night limousine accident, Denver newspapers reported this week.

The event dubbed "Mollypalooza" to help Molly Bloom's family with medical expenses is scheduled for Tuesday at the Rock Island Club, organizers told The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. The News described the date as a lunch date.

In an audio message posted on the Internet, Esquire's "The Sexiest Woman Alive" urges listeners to support the event and says: "I intend to submit a very special auction item as my contribution to the evening."

"Come on, it's Jessica Biel. What guy wouldn't want to win a date with her?" said Dmitri Lee Natali, 19, a friend and former classmate of Bloom, 18, who lost a leg in the May 13 accident. "My mom happened to be able to contact (Biel's) parents, and they had heard about Molly's tragedy. They said 'yeah, I bet she'll do that."'

Biel, a Boulder native who is on location filming the movie "Next," won't be at the fundraiser Tuesday, Biel said in her message.

Bloom was run over and dragged about 38 feet by a Hummer stretch limousine, police said. Limousine driver Stanley D. Sample, 38, faces a misdemeanor charge of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.

Bloom is undergoing rehabilitation at Denver Children's Hospital.

i still feel that Whistler should be somehow incorporated into the comics.. but I guess it would have to be a thing where a licensing deal was struck between New Line and Marvel-- which Marvel lawyers probably don't feel like doing..
