Who are your favourite band ?

A few of my all-time favourites:
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
Cream
Derek and the Dominos
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac
Free
Led Zeppelin
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
The Who
ZZ Top

When it comes to my absolute favourite, I probably go back and forth between the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Led Zeppelin, and The Who.

My favourite band has shifted a few times. In my 20s I was obsessed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers , but lost interest in them after their stuff all started to sound the same ( around 2004).

In my later years I've gravitated towards 70s rock - with Led Zeppelin at the top. I idolized Chris Connell (RIP).

I have a real soft spot for 80s pop.

Well I'll tell ya, I don't mind any band long as they can sing real good and play like a house afire.

That said I can listen to Alabama all day ever day if I had my druthers.

Current Bands/My Generation
Black Key's, Florence & The Machine, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, The Fratellis

Older Bands/Mum & Dad Generation
Fleetwood Mac, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Queen, The Who, E.L.O, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Madness, Gun's N Roses, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Rolling Stones, Cream, Steve Miller Band, Duran Duran, Status Quo, Genesis, The Clash

What I take from this is music is definitely getting worse lol. Not a band but I have just discovered Shooter Jennings watching Punisher and his stuff seems great so far.

Verve (specially ASIH and ANS)!

Stone Roses
The Chameleons
Elbow
Twilight Singers and Afghan Whigs (actually, anything by Greg Dulli)
Smashing Pumpkins
Kitchens of Distinction

Right now, I'm in love with a project, called Humanist, by one of the most talented guitar players (and multi-instrumentalists) I've ever heard, Rob Marshall (ex-guitar player from two blinding blindings: Lyca Sleep and Exit Calm). The first two tracks from the upcoming album are, imho, better than anything I've listened to in years.

I used to be into classic (read:70's) rock but I just can't really do it anymore, the few I still love:
Allman Brothers, The Doors, Queen, Pink Floyd

Mostly I'm a punk:
Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Pennywise, Youth Brigade, NoFX, Descendents, Rancid, Sublime

and then the rest is like classic Motown and R&B singers and classical music
it's an eclectic mix, I know

If I had to pick one, I'd probably say Bad Religion, I guess

As you can probably tell by my username, I’m a fan of Weezer and Green Day lol

I’ll list my top 10 bands/groups in no particular order:

1) Weezer
2) Green Day
3) Depeche Mode
4) Jimmy Eat World
5) New Order
6) The Cure
7) Brand New
8) Radiohead
9) Blink-182
10) Muse

I have many more that I love but these are the ones I find myself listening to the most

My top3 that is so close I don't know if I can pick a favorite, I just love them all a lot for different reasons:

*Oceansize - Only made 4 albums and some EPs/Singles but their mix of Post-Rock and Progressive Rock perfectly scratches an itch for 2 of my favorite genres and they were just so consistent.

*Cardiacs - Just one of the most unique bands I've heard. The mix of punk, progressive rock with elements of psychedelic rock, their music has a bit of a 'other world' type feeling. Like I'm sucked into a magical fairtytale kingdom or something. The keyboards are also quite distinct and almost have a circus-y vibe to them.

*Phish - Great band on album but even more phenomenal live. They are quite known for changing their setlists and never playing the same show twice, and they are also known for going off book and adding long instrumental sections to their songs as well as playing a bunch of different cover songs. It's such a wonderful band to listen to because as you go from 1 concert to the next, you might get a 5 minute version of a song on the first concert but a 25 minute on the next one.
