Who are your favourite band ?

The number one band for me since mid 80s (who's new records always was a happening) has always been Rush. I'm glad they finally decided to tour in my part of the world in the 00's, so I could see them twice before Neil Peart decided due to health problems that touring days was over. Before that, early 80s metal was all that mattered for this teen (Iron Maiden, Saxon, Anvil, Motörhead, Van Halen etc, etc...), and also made me start playing guitar.

Otherwise these days I tend to hold on very much to the likes of Beatles, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake and Black Sabbath. And a few others. Mostly old stuff, but I'm kinda old myself now lol.

Cardiacs & Oceansize are my 1 and 2

Honorable mentions to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Swans, Sigur Rós and Blur

Nirvana.

It was the first band I became a fan of. I remember around '95-96, I was in a middle school at that time, I noticed people wearing Nirvana apparel. A blonde guy was looking at me with his sad blue eyes from various hoodies and t-shirts with writing 1967-1994. I saved some money and bought the first tape I could find in the nearest music shop. It was "In Utero" album. I didn't watch MTV at that time, there was no internet, obviously. So I never heard Nirvana's biggest hit Smells Like Teen Spirit. But Nirvana's "other" songs really spoke to me. I come back to Nirvana and rediscover it every time. It's like a different band when you're 11, when you're 18, when you're 28.

I didn't listen to Nirvana until many years after Kurt Cobain's passing. Early 2005. (One of my favorite bands was Foo Fighters. I didn't realize Dave Grohl was previously a drummer for Nirvana. Funny coincidence)

The album I first listened to was 'Nevermind' Kurt's music was a bit depressing, but also mellow and emotionally charged. Personally, My favorite song from the album was 'Come As You Are'

I wouldn't say Nirvana is my favorite band of all time, but 'Nevermind' was an album I listened to quite a lot during a period of my life when I was going through a lot of emotional stuff.

R.I.P Kurt Cobain. I hope his soul is at peace.

1. Kiss
2. Black Label Society
3. Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators
4. Butcher Babies
5. Halestorm

After the top 5 maybe even top 3 it could change day to day.

Dave Matthews Band
Coldplay (the emo days: 1st and 2nd album, specially, are effing good)
80s music in general (i. e.: Phil Collins, Roxy Music, Rod Steward, The Police, Sting, Seal)
Someone mentioned "The Mavericks", amazing band!

In no particular order

Faith no more
Rancid
Queen
The Clash
The Yo Yos
Andrew WK
The God Awfuls
The Living End
Rocket from the crypt
Bouncing Souls

I listened to a lot of Rock/ metal/Grunge upto about the age of 15... when I fell in love with the Clash and the timing coincided with the rise of east coast punk (Greenday/ Offspring etc..) but most importantly Rancid who now have a back catalogue I cannot fault!

Queen
Metallica
Ac/Dc
Kiss
Ozzy Osbourne
Rob Zombie
Marilyn Manson
Powerman 5000
Godsmack
Linkin Park
Skillet
Breaking Benjamin
Korn
Disturbed
Ghost

Rush, Sabbath, VH and Saxon (up through '86 only) are among my favorites, too. Also Dio, Rainbow, Gamma, and Saga.

Blue Öyster Cult is one of my top bands. These guys never let down. I just played Cultosaurus Erectus (1980) in its entirety. A blast from start to finish.

^BÖC is one of those bands I've since long been meaning to check out more of, I feel I've heard way too little of their music.

Garbage
The National
Depeche Mode
Nine Inch Nails
Slowdive

The albums you need to hear, assuming you know their '70s stuff:

Mirrors (highlights: "Lonely Teardrops," "The Vigil," "The Great Sun Jester" with lyrics by Michael Moorcock)
Cultosaurus Erectus (all of it!)
Fire of Unknown Origin (ditto)
The Revolution by Night (underrated)
Imaginos (concept album, this one is a real arse-kicker like C.E.)
Curse of the Hidden Mirror (their last original recording, with the spectacular "The Old Gods Return")

I love Buck Dharma's solo album Flat Out, too.

I think it’s nirvana for me right now. I never listened to them until my mid twenties though. Love their stuff, especially songs made of pure energy like “breed”.

I have been looking for more alt bands that make music like la vida boheme’s first album but I can’t find anything. Their sound has since changed and I don’t really like it but This ones the bomb for me:

The Beatles
The Eagles
The Beach Boys
Huey Lewis and the News
Gin Blossoms
The Rembrandts
Genesis

Red hot chilli peppers, Coldplay, Slipknot and Judas Priest.

Flat Out is a GREAT album! I really hate that Buck only did that one album and then just kind of dropped the mic.

If I had to give a list of my favorite bands it would really change from year to year.

My all time favorite band though is METALLICA!! Say what you will about them but I think that Metallica are The Beatles of the modern generation.

If we're going back in time, because I do see a lot of newer bands in this thread. So, maybe so schooling for the younger folk here.

Thin Lizzy. They are a tremendous band and, in my opinion, do not get the credit that they deserve. I implore you all, if you've never heard Thin Lizzy, to cue up the Bad Reputation album and thank me later.

Never been that good at nailing down concise lists, would probably have to do it by genre.

I don't know, long-term recurring favorites I've never moved on from, Iced Earth & Nightwish might take that cake. With older The Offspring stuff kinda being what got me into rock stuff in the first place, though grew out of them years ago (only the old stuff's really worth a damn).

Megadeth's up there, Type O Negative, along with all the classic Sabbath/Zeppelin type of stuff.

Just a few as I can never pick a favourite either.

  • Black Keys
  • AC/DC
  • Florence & The Machine
  • Electric Light Orchestra
  • Fleetwood Mac
  • Motley Crue
  • Creedence Clearwater Revival

New Single - Speed of Light....This song is a tribute to the Avengers, the Superhero within and those around us! Listen, share, awaken your inner SUPERHERO!
