Who created the following characters first: Marvel or D.C.?

The Martian Manhunter originated in the 50's I think. The Hulk was originally a modern day Frankenstein's monster with a little Jekyl and Hyde thrown in for flavor.

As far as I'm concerned, this is how they should be listed, with bold being the earlier of the two...

1. Solomon Grundy (DC) or Hulk (Marvel)
2. Martian Manhunter (DC) or Vision (Marvel)
3. Doctor Fate (DC) or Doctor Strange (Marvel)
4. Plastic Man/Elongated Man (DC) or Mister Fantastic (Marvel)
5. Aquaman (DC) or Submariner (Marvel)
7. Darkseid/Mongul (DC) or Thanos (Marvel)
8. Metron (DC) or The Watcher (Marvel)
9. The Flash (DC) or Quicksilver (Marvel)
10. Atom (DC) or Ant-Man (Marvel)
11. Atomic Skull (DC) or Ghost Rider (Marvel)
12. Clay Face (DC) or Sand Man (Marvel)

And that's my two cents...

:yay:

And by all means, let's not forget:

Killer Croc (DC, 1983) vs The Lizard (Marvel, 1963) ;)

but then there's always:

Catwoman (DC, 1940) vs Black Cat (Marvel, 1979) :p

And possibly one of the more controversial of them all...

Man-Thing (May, 1971) vs Swamp Thing (June, 1971)

:yay:

Weren't they both based on earlier shambling swamp creature archetypes?

Is an asshat like what these women are wearing?

Man, did EVERY WW cover back in the day have her bound and helpless on the covers?

Probably... though Marvel had released more monster type books in the earlier 60's and I'm sure we could find one... The Swamp Creature that appears in House of Secrets #92 was not defined as the Swamp Thing, though I believe both Wein & Wrightson did the story and Swamp Thing #1 debuted shortly thereafter.

But these are the first appearances of the Muck Monsters that go by that name, not necessarily the first appearance of your generic Muck Monster.

God knows who first created THAT???
