It's been mentioned in an article, but now that i've started watching Community (great show) i think that Alison Brie would be a fine choice for MJ.

MEW, though she would be an excellent choice, is just too old for the role!

If we were to choose an actress now, they'd have to be in their very early 20s, or have just hit 20, so that by the time that TASM3 is being filmed, Mary Jane would look as if she was indeed in her early twenties, at the same age as Peter Parker would be in the sequel.

Anyone who is in their late twenties now is a big no no I'm afraid.

They have a Peter Parker who's currently 31 yrs old and is looking closer and closer to his biological age with each passing day. I don't think an actress in her late 20's or even 30 is off limits.

I keep hearing that he looks like his biological age. However, without his beard, he easily looks like he's in his mid-twenties to me.

To me he looks he looks like he's in his late 20's even when clean shaven. A couple years ago he could've easily passed for 19-21 though. Imo, he aged up quite a bit between TASM1 and 2 and is starting to look closer to his actual age than he used to.

^ Imo, Levy is basically a cute quirky girl like Emma Stone judging from her previous roles. Just look at the trailer for Bang Bang Baby. And I also happen to think that she looks and carries herself like she's younger than Stone, not like a more mature older woman.

I think someone mentioned on these boards that they wanted Levy to play a live action Harley Quinn, and in terms of her voice and her presence as an actress, that's a role that I could see really fitting her.

The thing with Jane is that even if her roles are the sweet,cute,quirky girl in real life she acts pretty much her age and i am sure she can bring that into her character, Its not like she hasn't tackled a big serious role (see Evil Dead) so i can't see why she couldn't be a great MJ.

Especially with looks like this.

First of all, that's tons of makeup/styling and photoshopped up the kazoo. Not saying that Jane isn't a naturally beautiful girl, she is, but come on now.

For certain roles, an actor has to have a certain "je ne sais quoi". It's a combination of looks, voice, mannerisms, personality, etc. If we're going by the comics, MJ is (among other things) a sultry spitfire. I just don't see Levy fitting that type of character.

I challenge you to find one photoshoot of the rest of the choices for MJ that hasn't been photoshopped,stylized and without any use of make up.
Also how is that an issue if that's exactly how actors appear in movies? (With tons of make up etc)
People spend ours just to make them look perfect for the camera.

I won't lose sleep over it. Though, I think it would be interesting if they went a bit older with Peter.

I meant overly stylized photoshoped pics used in fashion magazines. People love to post those of actresses, but they rarely (if ever) end up looking like that on the big screen.

Yeah, he'll be 33 going onto 34 which will be pretty weird but as long as he does a great job of playing Peter and Spider-Man then I'm fine with that. It's nice to see the actor "mature" and age over the films (as the story progresses) as well. Tobey Maguire kinda remained the same throughout the Raimi trilogy.

I'd love Jane to be MJ.
But she's more perfect for the role of Harley Quinn in my eyes.
And Jane does have similarities to Emma and there's no denying how often they are compared.
And here's my fear. Everybody knows how often they are compared. They have a similar look and feel. Both are quirky, funny and good actresses.

The strongest element of TASM2 was Andrew and Emma's chemistry. Critics and fans alike adored them onscreen together.
So wouldn't it be wise for Sony to cast an actress just like Emma? Namely Jane?
No, it would be very unwise.
Because I believe that the fans and critics alike will compare Jane with Emma too much and they'll think it's a sign of weakness that they needed to resort to getting an actress that is just like Emma in order to capture the same chemistry. I think it would backfire and degrade the movie and the franchise even further in people's eyes.
I don't want them to ever think of Jane as a poor man's Emma in the form of MJ.

I may be wrong, but that's my belief.

And saying that - Margot Robbie for MJ! All kinds of maturity that people want!

We need quite a sultry MJ if we do have the character appearing in TASM3. Not sl**ty like but very similar to how she's portrayed in Spectacular and giving off a seductive (from her voice), playful and fun vibe.

I have nothing against Jane Levy being cast as MJ but her character (not the actress herself) may come across as too similar to Gwen and it would just be nice to have the two to be distinct, hence why a different actress should take the role (and none that have really been mentioned recently in this thread though MEW would be great but is simply too old).

Oh I agree. I think she's one of the most attractive actresses out there if she keeps her get-up the way she normally does.

However, this is one of the few pictures I found of her with red hair, and she's not all that great.

She does suit the blonde best, but that doesn't mean the makeup department can't do some magic with her.
If she was cast as MJ and doing all the modelling, we wouldn't be complaining.

However, this is one of the few pictures I found of her with red hair, and she's not all that great.

That's clearly after she hit the gym or went for a jog. You can find unflattering pics like those of any actress. Seriously, off all the actresses listed, I think her looks are the least debatable. I've seen people complain that she's far too good looking for Garfield.
