I think I may end up drawing my own comic one day, but I'm only recently learning how to draw, so it'll take me a few years before I can do both.

My question is simple: Who here can do both? Or have done both? How hard was it? How hard do you think it is? What do you prefer doing more? Chicken or the egg?... ok, that last question is silly. Anyway, answer. Laterz.

you don't have to answer all the questions.

I can write, but that's it...I cant even draw a decent stick figure to save my life...

I can't either. Why are they so hard? I can kinda draw pictures, but when it comes to what I have in my mind on paper, it just won't happen.

I can draw, I guess, and I am working on the wirting. So yes on the drawing and not really on the writing.

I can write to a reasonable standard, and I'm okay at drawing faces, but I suck at poses and composition.

I can write - I'm a copywriter and editor by trade. I haven't really drawn since school though...

I've always been way more into drawing.

I used to do little home made comics for fun, (and to practice drawing panels and all that) but I haven't done one in a long time. Not that I don't really like doing it, I just suck as a writer. :woot:

I grew up drawing/writing my own comics. I've got a slew of ideas that would still be good or even great today if done properly.

And for some kinds of stetches, I'm okay, maybe better. But my problem is patience!!! ...I don't have any when it comes to drawing the details of a story.

So I'd say I'm a much better writer. And when I see quality artwork, I can truly appreciate the talent that goes into it.

i love writing, ive written novels which i want to try and get published. i like to think i can draw. here's a sample:

but yes the key to it all is PATIENCE

I can draw pretty well. I've also been told that I'm a pretty decent writer. I like to make my own comics but the problem is I rarely have the drive to complete one.

I draw, Mostly. I was sent to an art school when I was old enough (10), my school paid for it, because in nursery when all the kids drew people it was just balls with eyes, mine was head, body, arms, hands, 4 fingers, thumb, legs and feet.

I'm still not at the leave I want to be at though

Hmmm... it all depends on what kind of comic you want to do. I can draw and do storys but I rearly finish my comics though. It's hard work you ready for it.

Back in the day, I'd write while I drew the pictures. But I discovered I was a better writer than artist so I gave up the pencil altogether.

When I was a kid, I'd copy the drawings of others. I slowly and slowly got better at it. Then I tried to draw something original, and the quality dropped drastically. I can draw Goofy and Fred Flintstone, but I can't put my own imagination to paper to save my life.

So I just write.

I drew and wrote two comics in college. Drawing them was time-consuming but fun, inking was an incredible chore, writing was kind of tacked on as an afterthought since I knew the art would be the part where I really won my professors over in anyway. I'm not much of a writer. I did, however, create the comics as an English major, ironically.

I do both. It's a hobby, and I've found the biggest challenge is getting the art to reflect the feel of the writing. You can't carry a serious tone with overly exaggerated art.

Actually, depending on how good it is, a serious tone with cartoony art can make a nice contrast.

But to answer the question, I'm just a writer. My art sucks. Been working on a comic for a while now, but it's going rather slow.

"Powers" has an overall serious tone with art that looks like it belongs in a Saturday morning cartoon, but it works.

Unlike some, people tell me that i can write.I dont think i can,but im not going to do anything with it.I hear the comic industry is very shallow today.

I do both. I prefer to write though, because the story is the most important part to me. That and writing is much less time consuming. Think about it this way. Most comics are monthly and are about 24 pages. If you want to take off weekends, then you have to produce a page a day -- not an easy task. Many writers can put out four books a month, but most artists struggle to put out one a month. Hell, even Alan Moore started as an artist but switched to writing because it gave him more time with his family.

Problem being a writer though is that everyone thinks they can put words together and can write. Artists are fewer in number. Drawing is far more difficult. But thankfully, few writers can write. Traditionally, there have been very few that do both exceptionally.

Yes I write and draw but the only problem is i'm a pefectionest that badass drawing of Davy Jones up their is great heck even better I could draw better than that but I sit their looking for every little flaw and I fixthem then it just makes it worse. So i'm tryin to get over the perfectionest part of me.
By the way EXTREMLY NICE DRAWING KaBoom. =/) love it.

I can draw and I can write, but the thing is, though I can draw... I mostly hate doing it. I did it all my life and wanted to make a career of it, but then suddenly, like a switch, it clicked off and I didn't want to do it anymore. I try to get myself into it and just can't. I'm working on a novel (almost done) and people seem to like it, so here's hoping that works out. I've only drawn one thing in about two or three years, and it was for hype: survivor (had to turn my tribe into superheroes). Here it is...
