Just got into Superman comics because of SR and bought 'Our Worlds At War' with Darkseid in, but the main bad guy is Imperiex and i've never heard of him, anyone got any background info on him and his powers, thanks in advance.

That was his first and only (?) appearance. I think. Yes?
I hated that book. If you want some good Supes trades, go for Kingdom Come, Red Son, Secret Identity. Of course, none of those are in continuity but they are all great.

If you got it the comic because of Superman Returns start with Up Up and Away and then start picking up Action Comics starting from 844

Ok guys thanks for the info, looking forward to finishing the books i have, i also have 'The Greatest Tales Ever Told: Volume 2' and 'Sacrifice.' They'll have to do for now as i'm short on money.

Really Up, Up, and Away is Superman Returns for the comics and Action 844 and 845 give Superman and Lois a child so if you got into Superman because of the movies these are what you would want to get and then if you have the money pick up Kingdom Come.

I intend to pick up Kingdom Come, Man Of Steel and The Death Of Superman all at some point in the future.

BTW, what is Red Son about?

Excellent story, with a huge twist at the end.

Anywho, 'Our Worlds At War' ain't that great. I rather liked 'Sacrifice' although it just sorta peeters off after the Supes/WW fight. WompuM's and All-Star Superman's recommendations are all great, and I'd add to that list:

Birthright (Supes' current origin story)
Lex Luthor: Man of Steel
Man of Steel (the first post-Crisis origin)
Superman for All Seasons
Trinity
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

Birthright isn't his current origin any more than Man of Steel is now.

I thought Our Worlds at War was good. Not the best Superman story, but certainly not a bad one.

Your right but DC is saying Birthright is official until they make up a new origin because Birthright falls right in line with Silver Age Superman.

Dont like the sound of Red Son, but the others sound great and 'Our Worlds At War' looks like a decent read to me.

Except that Superman Confidential retcons many elements of Birthright, so I don't see how DC can possibly be saying that at this point.

Personally, I loved Secret Identity. It might not be action packed but it's an awesome and at times heart warming story.

I agree with Troppppico. I found Secret Identity better than Red Son even.

And I agree what is suppose to happen is we're suppose to get one more origin story but who knows when that will happen.

Superman's continuity is KILLED as far as trying to go with one true origin.

Just pic up a few trades here or there, refer to the ones you like, and negate the rest because it'll only become a bigger cluster**** as time passes.

I am still trying to figure out what happened with Doomsday now because when Earth-2's Superman and Earth-1 Superman were fighting each time they hit each other they changed their history.

No they didn't change anything. They had visions of themselves in each other's history. Showing what each Superman would have done in the others place and showing us the differences between the two of them.

Yea but somethings were changed during that fight as well buts thats in the TPB part of the book like how some things were changed in the IC hard cover. Thats why I am wondering because each hit was like a SBP punch.

^ That's so DC writers can say things like, "The DCU is SO unpredictable now! Anything can happen!"

...BLAH!

Superman trades I'd recommend:

The DC Universe Stories of Alan Moore (for the stories For the Man Who Has Everything and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?)

Superman: Secret Identity (in this trade, written by Kurt Busiek with art by Stuart Immonen, we are shown exactly what it is that makes Superman an enduring icon, a hero among superheroes)

The Death of Superman/World Without a Superman/The Return of Superman (these 3 trades comprise one of the most harrowing times in Superman comics, and while certainly not the greatest Superman story ever told, a strong one in all regards)

Superman: For Tomorrow volume 1

Superman: For All Seasons

JLA volume 2 (American Dreams) and volume 4 (Strength in Numbers)

Single Issues:

All of Superman: Confidential
Action Comics #775
all of All-Star Superman

Personally, I loved Secret Identity. It might not be action packed but it's an awesome and at times heart warming story.

Prob the only book that I love that I don't own :(
