Who would you wipe from the cimena history books?

Cruise I CAN do without.

But taking away Lucas would be like taking away God for an entire generation of people.

They'd rise and one and slay you :o

Please! I love the Star Wars movies, but seriously.....that's all he has. Lucas is a one trick pony, that's why he keeps milking and always will that one franchise. When it comes to Indiana Jones he may have come up with the general idea with Spielberg, but the execution of the films is all Spielberg baby!

Well, Lucas is still the one, who created one of the greatest franchises ever, so saying he is a bad filmmaker isn't right.

Besides, his another movie titled American Graffiti was a really great film, what isn't sureprise, because people loved it (just look at it's box office numbers).

American Graffiti was ok. Just because it's one of the greatest franchises ever definetly doesn't make him a good filmmaker. Someone in another thread brought up this point and I fully agree. Empire is considered the best out of the original 3, he didn't even direct it. He directed the 3 prequels, and look how they came out.

look how they turned out? they turned out fine. they had their flaws, like most films, and whiney fanboys picked them apart for lack of something better to do with their lives... that doesn't make them terrible. the only reason the original trilogy is so highly regarded is that there was nothing like it before. buy the time the prequels rolled around, there had been, many times over. there's nothing so terribly bad in the prequels that wasn't already in the originals, and the prequels did a lot of things better.

so, what was your point?

You do have some good points about the prequels. I own them, I like them just didn't think they were as great as they could have been. On that note as well, I don't consider myself a whiney fanboy. I actually prefer the newer versions of the originals. The one and only thing I didn't like about them was the whole Han and Greedo shootout. Other than that, I thought the addition of stuff was great. I really didn't see how it took away from the movies, other than whiners just crying for the sake that it wasnt in the original version. Only reason it wasn't in the original version was technology at the time as well as lack of budget.

How many filmmaker's can say they created their own entire parallel universe?

I wish I could pretend the Matrix sequels never happened. As much as I try not to let them, they have kind of messed the first one up some for me.

Not sure about parallel universes but Tolkien was more ahead of his time than Lucas. He actually created languages, most if not all of the wierd names and languages in Star Wars were simply jibberish that had no connection.

Michael Moore Watch some of his documentaries and get back to me
I have. And would you like to tell me why I would want to watch a doc. that's full of BS.

I think you're missing the point of this thread.

I'm probably gonna get flamed, I'm not sure, but Woody Allen. He just annoys the s*** out of me and his movies are terrible.

I love how people forget that his Batman movies were the exceptions to Shumacher's usually excellent work.

You kidding?

St. Elmos Fire?
Flatliners?
Lost Boys?
Phone Booth?

Schumacher's done some great work. People are just pointing our his approach to Batman because we're on a forum devoted to Super Hero Films.

I agree, but it's really inevitable given that the Batman movies are by far his highest profile work.

Ok, I'm stealing this from another message board. If you could "erase" someone from the History Books of American Cinema, who would be and why?

I'm gonna have to say:

Hallie Barry
Joel Schumacher
Tom Cruise
Michael Moore
M. Night "I'll Use The Same Formula Over and Over Again Because It Works" Shyamalan
George Lucas
Rosie O'Donnell
Paris Hiltion
Uwe Boll

Terrible list. The only ones who deserve to be there are Hilton and Boll. The rest have contributed to some great movies. Even if they've been in some of the worst. I mean Monster's Ball, Falling Down, Phantom of the Opera, Lost Boys, Phone Booth, Minority Report, A Few Good Men, Born on the Fourth of July, Interview iwth the Vampire, Collateral, Bowling for Columbine, Sicko, The Sixth Sense, Signs, American Graffiti and Star Wars would all be erased.

Terrible list. Truly so.

P.S. WHO THE **** SAID WOODY ALLEN?

Them be fighting words.

The man gave us Annie Hall and Sleeper. That alone makese him one of the greats. Nevermind Bullets over Broadway, Manhattan, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Match Point, etc, etc.

Please.

I don't really care to erase anything, you realize another man's junk is another man's gold? Hell I've met people who like House of the Dead, just as there were people who enjoyed Ed Wood's movies.... It's presumptous to talk in such a manner. By erasing Halle Berry, you could be taking away from someone there favorite movies... How you like it if your oh so precious Batman Begins was simply erased?

The Salkinds post Superman: The Movie...

After what they did to Donner?

yeah, producers blow. :o

It's wonderful how only the terrible producers are remember but no one remembers any of the worthwhile producers... And I can pretty much assure you, that behind every movie you love that you should thanking the producer for making it happen.

No, I do remember producers.

I commend Jon Davison for taking a chance on Robocop
I praise Michael Uslan and Ben Melniker for getting Batman onto the big screen

Debra Hill for Halloween, and the late Moustapha Akkad for continuing it to the point where we can be given a new vision from Rob Zombie.

Gale Anne Hurd for what I consider to be the prime of Cameron's films (T1, Abyss, Aliens, T2)

Scott Mosier for the Kevin Smith films.
Allen Ladd Jr. for getting 20th Century to take a chance on both Alien and Star Wars.

And most recently Spielberg, whose enthusiasm I'm sure was one of the deciding factors in Transformers.

Don't misinterpret me, I'm quite aware of how hard producers work.

I was just pointing out a not-so-good producer scenario.

Another one is David Giler. If you've seen the Alien documenteries, you know exactly what I mean. He comes off as such a dick in those.

Completely agree.

We really need to create a Joel Schumacher thread. Just because everything else he's done has been excellent, but one flop and suddenly he's the fanboy anti-christ. A flop from 10 years ago. It don't make no sense.
