Why are Electical Outlets different in Other Countries?

I wonder why different countries use the voltage they do...I'm not totally sure so...can someone help me out in my knowledge quest
 
Just so it can be a real pain when you travel and have to keep buying adaptors for different countries :mad:

I agree. It's so Europeans can overcharge Americans for adapters. I knew I should have bought one before I left the country.
 
England has a high voltage than USA (ours is 240v) we have three pins because one of the pins is just there for safety, it open up slots where the eclectic comes out, American outlets just plug right in, so basically its all for safety :D
 
It's the whole Tesla vs Edison thing :P
 
Drop everything, get yourself alone, sit down, take a few slow, deep breaths, and try to search out the avenues of your mind to discover why this is a silly question.
