Hmmm...
Movies - Great on several levels, except, y'know the basic level of being TRUE TO THE PREMISE... the film started out as a quest to free the enslaved humans, and then it turned horribly, horribly pear shaped.
Enter the Matrix - LOVED IT. Played through as Niobe twice, and i think more games should do this, use side characters to chart out a whole epic side thing. The fighting was cool, the bullet time/focus was well balanced and you could switch between guns and ample fighting moves very easily. There were intense moments and varied sets, great cut scenes and while the level design needed a LOT of help and the game lacked a teency bit of polish, it was a solid outing all around. I wouldn't nominate it for any awards, but it lacked any fun-killing attributes, for me.
Honestly ETM was brilliant simply because it tied continuity so tightly with Animatrix and the movies. I thought it was glorious just for that.
Path of Neo - Well, you're not "the One" that's for sure. And while it strove for lofty goals, and did a good job of following and expanding the storyline, and the flight-like jump was fun enough. I don't think the combat stepped it up much, if at all from ETM, and I think there was plenty of room for growth there, especially since we're talking about Neo. And the choosing levels from the air would have been done MUCH Better with a simple free roam environment... that could have been AWESOME. Oh well.
Never played Matrix Online, but it's certainly not fair to judge an MMO from Beta. I hear some people elsewhere are still playing it, and its improved and has a nice ongoing storyline where Morpheus died. Interesting, I guess...
But seriously... who cares? The action of the game can't match the coolness of the movies, nearly does running around with 1000 'freeminds' capture the desperation of the resistance situation. Matrix was NOT right for an MMO.
