I don't see nearly as many people asking for Spider-Man to die in ASM2 despite both the Ultimate and 616 versions being deceased and replaced, nor am I seeing fans asking for around half of the X-Men to die.

Clearly this isn't just about staying true to the source material, some people are really, truly bloodthirsty and have issues with Rogers.

The problem is not Rogers, it's Chris Evans in my opinion.

No thank you. Maybe it was cool in the comics (idk I don't read them) but I'd like to have Evans as long as possible. I think he's great.

Chris Evans is perfect as Captain America. Marvel couldn't have found a more perfect fit for the role.

As for Bucky, I never want to see him defile Captain America's uniform on screen. Leave that crap for the comics, where it belongs.

Preach!

The real question should be "how do you come to the conclusion so many people want to see Bucky Cap?"...

I think the people who are campaigning for Bucky Cap are people who just started reading comics this century. Nothing wrong with that at all, it's just that their perceptions of Captain America have largely been shaded by the Civil War story arc.

The Death of Captain America is certainly one of the most powerful storylines that has ever been written in Marvel, and certainly carried a lot of relevant political undertones back during the paranoid War on Terror years. The problem with trying to apply it to film is that the status of Cap and Bucky/WS in the MCU isn't even remotely similar to where they both stood in the comics. For one thing, the comics had decades to build up to that moment; MCU Cap and Bucky have only had a couple of movies. For another, the Death of Cap story was set against the backdrop of Civil War, which just ain't happening in the movies for a long long time (if ever).

Simply put, the Death of Captain America story line just doesn't fit into the current presentation of those characters in the MCU.

Xmen Fans wanted Jean Grey to die in order to do the pheonix saga.

I don't ever want to see anyone other than Steve Rogers slinging the shield. Hated it in the comics as well

I would've preferred Bucky staying dead.

I think you're reading something into it that isn't necessarily there. I think Death and Return of Captain America is a great story that explores and highlights what makes Steve Rogers so utterly awesome.

I think if we'd seen the precursors to stories where the hero dies on screen, we'd see a clamoring for that. For instance, everyone is clamoring for Gwen Stacy to die, even the actress, because they've set up the comics story that leads to that. So in her case, and Cap's, staying true to the source material is very much part of what's going on.

Don't forget the usual reasons for hoping for [insert terrible idea here]:

1. Rival fandom

2. Dislike of the MCU concept

I'm sure at least some of the people hoping for Cap to die and be replaced are coming from those directions.

I love Bucky but I don't want to see him as Cap. I didn't like it in the comics. He's supposed to be bad ass and mysterious. The whole identity of Cap takes that away. Besides, Evans is great.

I would say it's too early to kill off cap but I think the reason why so many people want to see Bucky cap is because it's such an amazing story and the character is incredibly cool.

Plus I suppose a cynic would say they would never kill off anyone who had a multi million dollar franchise attached to them so if they killed cap than the general audience would be all like "wow, no-one is safe"

You guys are making mountains of molehills. Bucky Cap is inherently temporary. It has nothing to do with killing Steve off for good.

exactly. when I grew up reading comics I knew there are only a handful of characters that are dead and will never be resurrected, becauese their deaths had such a great impact that resurrecting them would make character arcs or concepts completely obsolete. Uncle Ben, Bucky, and later Jason Todd. Buckys death was the in-universe reason, that superheroes in 616 had no teenage sidekicks in colourful costumes that follow them around, because it is too dangerous and no self respecting hero would risk a kid getting killed again for the reason of being a sidekick.
To resurrect Bucky made that notion irrelevant. who cares if my sidekick gets killed? I'm a superhero, so the kid comes back to live eventually anyhow.
IIRC, JJ Jameson hated superheroes so much, because as a kid he wanted to be Bucky (seriously, how old is JJJ?). So now that Bucky is alive again, how does it affect Jameson? What does that mean for the character dynamics in the Spider-Man comics? (of course they changed Jamesons character in the last decade for completely different reasons anyway, but that is irrellevant for my point)
Winter Soldier was a bad idea.

Fans are funny. One day it's "He/she is perfect casting!" The next day, they're screaming for blood because it happened that one time in the comics and they think it's absolutely necessary to show on screen.

I don't really want Bucky to be Cap but would love someone else in the role of Steve Rogers. I am hoping I am suprised by Chris Evan's acting in Winter Soldier. After CAFTA I was wondering if maybe he secretly had cancer so the Make a Wish Foundation got him the role of Captain America. He is too wooden for me and reminds of a Terminator when he acts. I am guessing I am not the only one with this opinion thus people's desire to see Bucky since replacing Chris Evan's in the role is a long shot.

I don't want to see Bucky become Cap. That always seemed weird to me in the comics because didn't he murder hundreds of people as the Winter Soldier? I know he was brainwashed or whatever, but still... that's not exactly someone I want to see as an inspirational symbol.

In addition to his countless assassinations, Bucky slaughtered hundreds (thousands?) in Philadelphia and committed other atrocities. Comic book writers can gloss over disturbing stuff like that but it would never fly in the film universe. There are people on this forum arguing that Captain America is too good to have sex; think of the reaction of the GA if Steve Rogers were replaced by a mass murdering psychopath.
