The title says the question: why do you like Spider-Man? Why are you a fan?

Personally, I became a fan because, for the first time, I saw a character that I could look at and say Hey! I actually can relate to that! I could think back to times when I didn't fit in or everyone else was doing something else. And of course, there was the humor. My word, I laugh and laugh when I read some of the quirky remarks that Peter made. (I think my favorite will always be "Wiggle my webs and call me shakey!"). Also, Peter was the common man's man who fell into power. And, unlike some people, he practiced responibility and did his best to do his best. Sooo, thats my reason. What's yours?

Well. I've liked spidey ever sense I woke up one saturday morning and flipped to "Fox Kids". I'm a only 17 now, so that might've been 10 or 11 years ago. ANyways, I liked the show and I got into the character from that, and I've been hooked ever sense

I'm don't really. At least, no moreson than any other character. Captain America, Thor, Batman, Green Arrow, Spider-Man, whoever - they can all star in both good stories and bad stories. I'll read the good ones.

I will always love that series. Best Spidey series IMO. Followed by the '67 Series (Classic!)

I first got attached to Spider-man's villans. Doc Ock, Vulture, Venom, Green Goblin etc. They are my favorite in all comics. They are all so unique and differen't from one another and by the time you do get a villan that is similar to one another (such as Green Goblin and Hobgoblin, or Venom or Carnage) they both come off as cool. Another reason is just the uphill climb that Spider-man is always taking. He never really seemed like a superhero who had everything he ever wanted. I used to enjoy the fact that he was surprisingly independant (until know with the Avengers). He always took matters into his own hands. He will always be my favorite

1. He had pretty unique powers for a superhero, especially the wall-crawling and spider-sense.
2. His rogues gallery were top notch. I mean, come on...Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Mysterio, Sandman, the Vulture, Electro, Venom, The Lizard, etc.
3. He's one of the few superheroes with a catchy theme song.
4. Web-slinging--now who wouldn't want to do that?
5. His origin is by far one of the best stories for any superhero (Batman's being a close second).
6. He makes wisecracks, and actually has a reason to.
7. He's just as likely to use his brain as much as his strength.
8. His supporting cast: J. Jonah Jameson, Aunt May, Mary Jane, Flash Thompson, etc.
9. The costume, especially his mask--very iconic.
and 10. Even though he was a superhero, he was still a relatively normal guy and not unlike a lot of us comic book geeks.

The perfect way to put it! (You don't read minds, do you? :))

I like him b/c unlike most heroes, he has a sense of humor and the characters/villains are interesting

Cause he puts Jiffy in my lunch.

He's a funny everyman. I liked that his problems ranged from not being able to make it to class on time,to having to stop a superpowered lunatic from murdering his boss. The 90s series first introduced me.I always enjoyed his internal monologue's,and wisecracks.

I like him because he is just a normal guy with awesome powers.

I like him because of all the superheros, he has the strongest character and spirit. He has loved and lost and lost and lost and lost and lost... you get the point, but he still lives life the right way, he's not buried in a cave afraid to get close to someone because he'll lose them again like Batman, he doesn't hide his real personality from those closes to him like Superman. He takes the **** that happens to him and still goes on in search of happiness.

Sums it up for me!

Plus, the underdog effect is in full swing (get it!?!?) with him.

Shouldn't it be why DID we like Spidey?

I live in the UK and collect an UK comic about two years behind AMSM no other or Iron spidey or Birty Disgusting Fikthy Brutal bagain basement trash bag ho Gwen for me yet. In fact letters ignore the stories, I hope he listens

Why do I like Spider-Man? I'll tell you why I used to like Spider-Man...before the "powers-that-be" decided they needed to "broaden his appeal".

He's me. Behind that mask, he's me. Every circumstance, every problem I've ever had, every good thing that's ever happened to me, it seems like Peter Parker goes through it all as well. He deals with probelms at home, problems with his family, and problems with his job every day. On top of it all, he has this heavy burden of responsibility to use his talents for the good of mankind.

He's a happily married man who has a higher calling...one that his wife appreciates, but will never really understand. He has been blessed, cursed, lost loved ones, had great loves, and found his true love. All things we've all been through. He's a little nerdy, has his quirks, and he doesn't fit in with the crowd, simply because he can't....despite how he desperately wants to be in that crowd.

He is the Icon for our generation and the generation before us, and he will no doubt be the voice of the generation after us. He is the person who is trying to get on with his life, and be normal, only to be handed setback after setback. He is the everyman...and yet, he's a little better than us, because he is who we'd ideally see ourselves being.

Those are my reasons, anyway.

simple, he used to show that brain was better than brawn.

as a man of science, that kinda ethos was important to me as a child growing up.

same goes for reed richards in a big big way.

Nice response, shinlyle.

Another thing I like is how nerdy Parker got a super model wife :)

What he said. Also Spiderman is a very noble character and always sticks to his principles, no matter what or the odds. That's always been a Peter Parker constant.

I started reading Spider-man during the Tom DeFalco era and kept on til JM DeMatteis stopped. The stories have been great and solid. I havent really bought Spidey title regularly since Peter Parker was revealed to be the clone, though I have started buying Ultimate Spiderman lately.
