Superman Returns Why Don't Some Superman Fans Like Superman Returns?

Its the critic in all of use. If I don't like a movie, I sometimes go on the board and say what I thought was bad about it and what might have made it better. Especially if its a character I really liked and was really looking forward to the movie.

What I've really never understood is why so many fans waste their time on forums and threads about movies they did not like? I'm not just talking about SR, but any movie.

I don't like Smallville or the Spider-Man 3 movie, but I don't go over into forums to constantly talk about why I hate those things. I rather discuss the things I do like or things I want to see going forward.

But that's just me.

Maybe because we care so much for Superman as a character, his potential and want to see a amazing movie that it is up there with Dark Knight...

Like Payaso said Superdaniel, a SR sequel seems to be dead at this point and a completely new film is on the agenda, so what is the point of bashing the movie at this point? Wouldn't it make more sense for posters to talk about the new film ahead?

But that is your right as a member on the Hype and I'm not telling you its wrong. I just find it silly that a lot posters spend so much of their time dwelling on negative stuff instead of the positive.

SR is one of my top 10 films. I loved the homage to the Donner films, but felt he should have changed things. Industrial Lex, a secong villain, more action, ect. But SR wasn't that type of movie. To me it re-introduced us to the characters as well as bringing in some new ones. The addition of Jason and Richard is something I felt was needed. As much as he is a superhero, his is still human in his emotions. He feels loss, regret, anger, and he makes mistakes. I for one don't want an all perfect superhero, I can't relate to him/her. SR had several scenes dealing with emotion that could lead into a sequel where action would result from that emotion. Imagine Brainiac finding out Jason is Kal El's son, what would Supes do then?

Well, the scene with Jason at the end still gets me choked up. I know most people hate it, but as a single dad,......it gets me.

The scene with the plane, but that's a given. The smirk on his face after the bullet falls off his eye, classic!!! As for Clark, the burrito scene still cracks me up. Jimmy and Clark being in the middle of Richards and Lois little chat is priceless.

I know a sequel is pretty much dead it wouldn't be too hard to do. Lex could use his billions for his legal defense stating he was blackmailed by his former prison pals and their revenge on him. They're dead so it couldn't be proven otherwise and he'd then start Lex Corp. Lois and Superman both would have to keep shut because Lex knows the truth about Jason. Introduce Brainiac and go from there.

But alas, I think we're going with a reboot. Ugh.....

I know I might be a little behind on this post. And please, don't let the "nuffsaid" angle fool anyone here. It isn't only Marvel I'm a fan of, but DC as well. And I've been a huge Superman fan for ages. After reading through this post I'm pleased to find I'm not the only one who detested this film. I'm a really big fan of Donner's original. However, Singer's SR "sucked"! Won't go into detail since it's already been told beautifully through the coarse of this post. However, next time you stroll through walmart, take a peek in the bargain 5.00 movie bin. What's that? Superman Returns Special dvd?? Err...yep.
P.S. Did I mention the suit should be burned?

I pretty much totally agree with all of this, loved the movie, could have done with a few changes, but overall I simply loved it the movie, and as someone who isnt much of a fan of the Donner movies, was not expecting to. Its a lot more serious and IMO adult than most CB movies, and it gets its theme's accross very well. As you said, very emotional also, which can be a deal maker or breaker with these movies.

Exactly AVEITWITHJAMON! There are a ton of recent movies over the past few years that are in the $5.00 bin. I don't know how Wal-Mart sets that stuff up, but I think its silly how fans call that out. I mean Crank is still higher priced at Wal-Mart than other movies that made more money and were more popular. You can go to other outlets other than Wal-Mart and SR is still selling at a higher price.

And it's just the SR single disc, not the Special Edition

Thank you for the reply; sorry I missed it earlier. And the scene of Superman giving the speech to his son is probably my favorite Superman scene ever. I'm glad others like it as much as I. It's magical, so moving, poignant and poetic, isn't it?

And yes, so much potential for a SR sequel is going to be wasted. WB sucks.

LOL I'm not a screen writer, by far. I keep hearing people say you can't correct the Jason/Richard issue. It'd be easy, I'm sure at some point after the flight home Jason is going to tell Richard how he threw a piano at a bad guy that just hit his mom, and how he wants to grow up to be like Superman. Richard would know the truth, confront Lois and he'd leave her. She'd tell Supes and he'd then reveal he's actually Clark and suggest Jason grow up on the farm with his mother in order to protect both of them. Lois could take a leave from the Planet and that'd leave the movie in more of a position to go forward with the action. Brainiac detects a strong Kryptonian presence because of Kal-El and Jason and techno action galore could ensue.

Exactly, that'd be a perfect way to do a sequel, now have a screen-writer take that idea and expand it into a 2 hr movie and we have a great sequel.

I actually liked Superman Returns more than I thought I would. It was far from perfect, but had some great moments. Besides after the disaster that was Superman IV it's hard to not give this movie some credit for a decent effort.

Thats what gets me, people seem to take SR flaws out of proportion, but when other movies have the same flaws, even TDK, they arent scrutinised anywere near as much. SR is flawed, definately, but no more than other cb movies out there.
