The difference is, your friend PAID for it. It's not the same thing. Download all you want to, I don't care, but know you're stealing.
And knowing is half the battle.
I don't download any new comics.
Just really old ones that are impossible to get hold of. Then if I find em I buy em.
If I really like Year One, then I might eventually buy the TPB.

So you just steal it and then consider buying it whenever you like it or not? Thats fair.![]()
I see downloading movies, music, comics, etc. as the same as borrowing a friend's copy of said item and watching/listening to/reading it, or should that be illegal too?

It is fair. It's like test driving a car. Would this be less devastating if people deleted the comic after downloading it?
Exactly. Or like how we hear songs on the radio before buying them.
Downloading comics isn't the gateway drug you're trying to make it out to be. If I GTA any cars in the near future, I'll be sure to let you know.

You're making a blind assertion here. Do you think reviewers don't buy comics too, just cuz they get free copies? People read digital copies (legal or otherwise) because they love comics. So if they're good, they'll buy 'em. Just like with music.
The only difference is, with music you can hear it beforehand and then buy it, whereas with comics, before digital I'd spend $50, go home and realize $20 worth of it was crap.
Now my process is, read my review copies, wait til whole storylines hit tpbs (my preferred format) and then buy what i liked. That way marvel gets rewarded for the good work they've put out, and i don't get screwed again by buying something where they put out a couple issues then with a couple years before finishing it... or don't bother ever finishing it at all (New Universal).
Debating tip: Admitting hypocrisy rarely results in victory![]()

actually,i want to talk about something none of you thought of regarding downloading comics.
I live in Egypt and i am a huge comics fan but there is absolutly no way for me to buy ANY comic books (i once bumped into an HC of uncanny x-men which i bought at once ) so i have no alternatives other than downloading comics....knowing that i wish to support the industry and buy the comics .

I understand the problems of downloading comics, that's obvious. I just don't see the problem in discussing it. As long as the means aren't being publically passed around or asked for, I don't see how Hype could be pinned as a middle man or endorser.
Thanks. And an Iron City is waiting in the 'burgh for you...
It's not like I think it's some kind of all consuming sin. Honestly, I think Marvel/DC turn a bit of a blind eye to it. Maybe they believe it is in their best interests to get their product out. I don't know. I just don't like the entitledness and the justification that goes along with it.
