IMO Gamecube just didn't stand out. It was fighting against a juggernaut in the PS2, and Microsoft had followers foaming at the mouth when they announced the Xbox. The GC just kinda felt like more of the same, like it'd be an N64 with better graphics. That was my thought process before I bought one. Once I bought a GC I enjoyed it, Metroid Prime, Zelda, the interconnectivity inbetween my Adavance SP with games like Pokemon, or the FF game.
The Wii on the other hand has some unholy hold on the minds of ppl who don't usually play games. The motion sensing and cheap price combo taps into the subconcious of mainstream. It's graphics are low tech, but it feels high tech and is a party machine.
Personally tho I'm the opposite, gimmicks turn me off to a console. I want a normal controller. I also skip Nintendo consoles every other generation it seems, bought an SNES, skipped N64, bought a GC. I guess I need that 6 year gap to get the urge to play some of the heavily rehashed series Nintendo puts out.
