Infinity War Why wasn't this 3 hours long?

To me. 15-20 mins could have helped:

really sell the Wakanda battle by adding a few more minutes
dialogue or scenes with Cap, SW and Falcon
seeing T'Challa form a battle strategy with Cap and Okoye. Also him commanding his people and evoking a major battle speech.
a few more scenes about the Black Order

Not that I would have objected to a longer runtime, but I am extremely satisfied with the film we got and everything felt extremely smooth.

Age of Ultron suffers far worse from needing a longer runtime. 20 extra minutes of breathing room would have done that movie a lot of favors.

The Wakanda battle could've used an extra 5 or 10 mins, but other than that I was pleased with what we got.

The Cap fan in me wishes they added some extra screen time for him, but honestly, it wouldn't have enhanced his role in the movie much even if they did. I honestly don't have anything I would have added to the movie.

I actually totally agree with this. Age of Ultron could do with 10 more minutes to let things breathe. I never understood why Whedon has such an obsession with making it shorter that the first Avengers.

I think Cap will definitely receive a much bigger role in A4.

I disagree. Not saying the movie needed to be shorter or longer, but I thought Hawkeye's farm was more than enough breathing room. Specifically the scene with Bruce and Natasha where she talked about being unable to have kids that brought the film to a screeching halt. The whole second act of that movie between Tony vs. Hulk and the South Korea chase scene was basically a breather.

I think the Wakanda battle kind of suffered from the same problems the last battle of AOU suffered from. The cuts were too quick, you see a few points of action that were cool, but for the most part the characters didn't have many concrete objectives that we as viewers were sure about. Yeah we knew they were trying to protect Vision but we didn't feel that. Like compare this to Avengers 1 during both the helicarrier scene and the Battle of New York. During these points events happen that have each character working on a specific objective. Heck remember the continuous shot from Black Widow to Thor and Hulk? That really did a good job at showing what each character was doing and gave a sense of space of the battle. We knew where everyone was and what they were trying to do. The Wakanda battle and the AOU Sokovia scenes didn't really have much of this so it felt less cohesive. More like punching for the sake of it.

Now of course there's way more characters to worry about this time around than Avengers 1 even in just the Wakanda battle. But we could've enjoyed seeing mini groups like Black Panther, Cap and Bruce handling one thing together to keep a similar effect rather than just seeing a free for all.

But the Wakanda battle is one of the few things I think could be better. The Thanos fight was FLAME!!!

well indeed Cap will have more screentime in A4, but what did he do in this? He was just there along with his team. Not even a battle speech.

we should have seen him and T'Challa as equals, Maybe more of him coming to him for help. Stating that Wakanda and BP were key to winning against Thanos. With T'Challa admitting they were happy he was there.

Gotta say on rewatch count me in as someone who is disappointed with the Wakanda battle. From the trailers/tv spots I was thinking it would be much better. Besides a few scenes overall I was left cold. Didn't quite get the epic feel. Too rushed.

Same here. The scope was much smaller compared to the epic NY battle in The Avengers.

I concur 100%

Were people expecting the Wakanda battle to be like LOTR or something?

People were expecting it to live up to the extended battles Avengers 1. I'll say it again, in both Helicarrier battle and the Battle of New York each character had clear objectives and because of this there were memorable moments of tension in these battles. In the Helicarrier battle, Black Widow attempts to calm Hulk down and later handles Hawkeye. Thor fights hulk and later has to free himself from that containment cylinder. Iron Man is focused on repairing the Helicarrier while Cap has to fight off henchmen to get to the lever.

Also you see the same thing with the Battle of New York. Captain America saves civilians from the Chitauri bomb, Black Widow takes control of a hovercraft to get to the top of Stark tower, Stark handles the nuke, etc. There were plenty of objectives and moments of concern in the fight that kept it from feeling like it was rushed or just punches with no concern. Another thing that helped is that there were longer cuts in the Battle of New York. It was easier to see what characters were doing.

In the Wakanda battle from A:IW there are awesome moments but they cut away from the scene too quickly. There is no time to register what each character is doing nor is there any indication how each character's current objective is different from anyone else's on the field. It is more akin to the Sokovia battle in AOU than Avengers 1. The Sokovia battle also suffers from these same problems, where something flashy happens and it is like it has no impact.

But most of the "final" spectacle from A:IW was in the Thanos fight so overall it was satisfying IMO. But the Wakanda battle no doubt could have been way better and more along the lines of how Avengers 1 played out. That's my only gripe. But you know people would be complaining about muh boring drones if there was more of a focus on the Wakanda battle. So you can't complain too much about them focusing on the Thanos fight which was much different than that.

This is the director's cut.

Well Yes. Something similar. They sure promoted the heck out of Wakanda.

Now, maybe it was nice misdirection. But there was no reason for the battle scenes not to have an EPIC feel to them. Leaving the theater being truly mesmerized by that action sequence.

We didn't even get to see individual Wakanda fights. Were they faring well against the Outriders? What was Okoye and M'Baku reaction to those beasts?

At the very least 10mins should have been added to the film. And all 10 devoted to Cap and his team. Of that 10, 4 mins going to Wakanda if you ask me. Seeing T'Challa raise his army. Discuss battle strategy with Okoye and Cap.

Honestly, and this is excessive, I would not have minded two 2hr-2hr15 movies, one of team Earth and one for team Space being released within the same year and then A5 being what I suppose theyre about to do with A4 being the culmination of both

They did def have too much material for 2 normally sized films.

They could easily do a trilogy of Thanos coming and conquering the universe.

I'm just hoping A4 is as close to 3hrs as possible. Like 2 hrs, 54mins.
