why would they let Prince doin the Batman OST?

Yeah, it would. Because Nolan's fan community has absolutely no sense of humor.

While yeah, I do enjoy it A LOT more due to nostalgia, The Joker dancing around to a song like Partyman was a fantastic scene. Very in keeping with the Joker's personality and motis operandi. It's crazy, it's random, and totally nonsensical, it's the Joker.

Hey I'm a big fan of Nolan's work and a sense of humor is something I definitely don't lack.

I always liked that scene though I just started noticing serious backlash to it upon joining the hype which was after the release of BB. I just took it as another example of the internet trendiness that is now always downputting any Batman movie that is not BB. Just something inherently freaky about a guy dancing around in celebration after murdering a bunch of people with poisonous gas. You could sense he was proud of it like an artist is of any piece of art they created. He found joy and pleasure in that like the sadistic bastard that The Joker is.

I really don't listen to Prince so I wouldn't know what to say (although I have listened to all his albums, I just probably won't again). But I thought the music fit the Joker well.

I'm a fan of the guy the dude's music has helped many different women of different walks of life feel comfortable in my bedroom. No complaints. Plus he's hands down one of the greatest guitarists of all time, one of my favorite songwriters too along with the likes of Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Morrissey and Lou Reed.

Glad to see other Prince fans out and about...

No thanks :p

Leave The Fray and Maroon 5 for the Spiderman films...so the teeny bopper "MTV" crowd can have kewl tracks to listen to while Spidey gushes over his lovesick life while neglecting to realize he isn't a character off Dawson's Creek, but a COMIC BOOK SUPERHERO...

p.s. I still love the Spidey films, but they're no Batman...

The Black Eyed Peas are hardly today's equivalent of Prince, in talent or popularity.
I think Mistah_Jay cited them as an example of course nobody wants to hear BEP songs in the movie.

Nicoloson suggested it, being a Prince fan, and since he was the movie's big draw at the time, they wanted to use whatever ideas he had.
I think in the DVD Burton said that either WB or Jon Peters wanted Prince.

Robert Wuhl (Alexander Knox) said that "Mark Canton and Jon Peters wanted Prince because Mark Canton's biggest hit up until that point had been Purple Rain."

There's that name again.......who the hell is Mark Canton?

From Hollywood.com

"Youthful studio executive who worked his way up from the proverbially mail room to executive production positions at Warner Bros. in the 1980s where he played a central role in the greenlighting of such socially and racially relevant films as "New Jack City" (1991) and Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" (1992). Noted for his ability to make rapid decisions and his creative relationships with such Hollywood talent as Barbra Streisand, Richard Donner, Tim Burton and James Brooks, Canton left his position as executive vice president of worldwide motion picture production at Warner Bros. in 1991 to join his former colleague, Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Peter Guber, as president of Columbia Pictures with an agenda to accelerate the number of projects. After nearly five years at the helm, Canton resigned from Columbia in September 1996."

Oh ok, thanks. I remember hearing his name a few times on the special features of the anthology and had no clue who he was.

Man, I've always loved that scene in Batman, one of my favorites. The doors swing open, Jack Nicholson strolls in, "Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds," then that funky fresh beat kicks in. It's just...cool. As a little kid (and maybe even now) I was always a little sad when that scene ends, it could probably have gone on a little longer.

But I would have to end someone's life if they used music like that in The Dark Knight.

1. Nicoloson suggested it, being a Prince fan

It had nothing to do with Nicholson. Prince was a HUGE star at the time and was signed with WB Records.

Also, these Prince songs were HUGELY successful at the time.

The Black Eyed Peas are hardly today's equivalent of Prince, in talent or popularity.

CORRECTION: The underground BEP not the commerical BEP. Talent-wise that is!

Wow, I couldn't have said it any better.

2. The comparison you did doesn't really work, in that Prince did original songs that fit with premise and ideas of the movie.

3. Prince > You, so shut the f**k up. :cmad: :oldrazz:

Damn straight! lol:woot:

The album ruled,

Have i mentioned i saw Prince live at the O2 last week,
