Please, how many crappy actors are out there doing tons of horrible movies and being paid millions for it?

If I state there are crappy actors out there doing tons of things and you say Routh is doing nothing, as opposite to 'lots of things, what I would be implying by that?

The day I agree with someone I'll go 'Yeah, compadre, I agree, you rock.'

And I am so waiting for that day and it will come - just you wait!

Penn has been around since Van Wilder. Routh has just begun.

Routh was the only reason Penn got a cameo in SR also. They were friends long before SR.

wOW! You guys on Routh payroll, or what?
Dude have done NOTHING for SUPERMAN but make him a laughing stock!

Billy - you must be one of we 3 FF 3 folks! LOL! But I agree, Routh has not the presence or charisma. Absolutely the wrong choice. His lack of drive at his craft is telling to me. He can't afford to pass up any offer. If Singer does not get a green light, which he seems to be banking it all on, his career is toast I'd expect.

Reeve was the better Superman and Spacey was the better Luthor.

lexlives, i could understand your point when you say Routh hasn't been growing as an actor if you knew what Routh has been doing lately. i doubt you know anymore than what's been reported on movie and Routh-fan sites. if you don't know what he's been doing from day to day then you don't have room to say what he has or hasn't been doing.

that being said, Routh might not've been the actor Reeve was but Routh also didn't have the advantage of having an actor's director. Donner works well with his actors. he works with them to get great acting on screen as opposed to Singer who just gets okay acting. Routh is a decent actor, he just needs better directing and guidance.

as far as the cast goes...i'll say they're tied. SR has a great Superman, a so-so Lois, awesome Lex, a great Jimmy, and a pretty good Perry along with Richard White. S:TM had a FANTASTIC Superman, a pretty good Lois, a good Lex, and a good Perry....didn't care for Jimmy.

Tie. Reeve was my childhood hero and Routh lives up to the standard he set. I slightly like Spacey more than Hackman, but only by a touch.

My Take:

Superman: The Movie
Clark/Supes - ok/Brilliant
Lex - ok to Good at the time, dated now - too goofy
Lois - good
Perry - good
Jimmy - poor

Superman Returns:
Clark/Supes - Great/Good
Lex - Better than Superman The movie, massive improvement in material needed
Lois - ok, not enough cockyness and danger in the character (material again)
Perry - ok
Jimmy - good.

As for *****ing about Routh. The guy had to train hard and had a physically challenging role. I believe he has just got married (or engaged?) - guy probably wants to take some timeout!

I thought the cast of Superman Returns were great, especially Brandon Routh. However, in my opinion, no one will ever surpass Christopher Reeve's performance as Superman. :super:

how do you mean that? i think singer is a good director.

I really dug Routh's performance all around in SUPERMAN RETURNS. I also thing that Spacey was a better choice than Hackman. Spacey atleast understood and cared enough about the character to shave his head (Hackman wanted to have a mustache at first).

I feel that with better writing and a more "current" interpretation ala Smallville/ TAS, Spacey could be the best Lex Luthor on screen.

understood the character? what has thsi to do with this? a director gets an actor. and if the director says that you have to shave the head you do it. if he doesnt want to you get another actor.

about the mustache. he would have the mustached if donner wouldnt trick him. donner put on a fake mustache and than made a deal with hackman that if he shaves than he also will. i htink at the end hackman laughed very hard when he found ou that he tricked him.
and yes hackman was a jackass and donner didnt have the balls to say to him that he just can get the f.... out of here.

Just as long as he isnt like Lex from this season of Smallville. Hes turned into a total *****.

i think he's a good director too...but i don't consider him an actor's director. actor's directors work HEAVILY with the actors to get spine-chilling reactions and emotions from the actors. while Bryan Singer is no George Lucas (definitely not an actor's director) i wouldn't put him in the same league as Ron Howard or Scorsese either.

i'm not saying Singer's a bad director...i'm just saying he's not as good at working with the actors as Donner was.

I wouldn't put Ron Howard in the same sentence - or planet - as any good or semi-good director.

Reeve was the perfect Superman, the guy looked like he walked out of the comic book page, How can anyone even compare to it.

and yet people are sying that he was not like from the comics and that they had a guy who looked more like superman and wasnt an actor.

I agree... the way he presented the character was absolutely incredible... he let the costume do the talking and he projected the character through his posture and his body language.
