and yet people are sying that he was not like from the comics and that they had a guy who looked more like superman and wasnt an actor.

What? I did not get what you were saying but Reeve looked exactly like Superman of the comics and I never heard anyone say he looked nothing like it.

Wasn't there some internal struggles with the casting of Reeve, many not agreeing he was right for Superman because of his original size. I believe there was an article or two about it originall before the movie came out, not supporting him as Superman. There was a thread on this before.

Of course there was no internet so it wasn't as broad, and also Reeve stole the show as Superman.

If you look at Reeve's screentests you can see how skinny he was to be Superman.

I am not aware of the article. But the results that S:TM gave said Reeve was perfect. It was just amazing that they found someone who looked exactly like Superman from the Comics and top it off he pulled of the role perfectly.

...Sorry if you are a Routh fan...

This is not easy for me to do - praise Welling, in context, as I am by absolutely no means a Welling fan. So if I have offended you as I Routh fan I apologize but I have to call them as I see them.

I disagree about initial castings. It is often on looks...

...And sorry, I do see Welling having at least tried to go that extra mile.

You can shoot me too if you want...

Ummm....... LOL Oh, man. This made me giggle. :D

Don't worry, LL. No offense taken. ;)

I agree with you, the end result was magnificent, but there was rumblings internally and maybe a couple articles. Basically mole-hills.

i also read somwhere that donner didnt want reeve on the screentest because of the looks. reeve had mroe brighter hair and to donner he looked nothing like superman. then teh guys fixed him.

the way i read it we were really lucky that donner changed hes mind.

No, Donner was actually pushing the studio to get Reeve, and then they finally chose him over the other actors.

maybe this happened before the started to like him. or maybe i mixed stuff and donner was teh one who showed WB reeve without hes brown hair and made him more superman.

I voted for Christoper Reeves and Gene Hackman because...
a) Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane... give me a break, but before I take it any further... Kate was only following the script she was given and also I can't belame the director and any other cast members(maybe the writers for literally screwing up the franchise up with Lois Lane not knowing who Superman really is when Clark revealed it to her in Superman II and this one was after II and before III), Brandon Routh was good as Superman. Why? Well because when Supes was getting the heck beaten out of him I cried(and I'm not afraid to admit that), but Clark Kent... I don't know, but I did like a line that he said. It was a quick little line that you may not have noticed the first time but if you've seen Superman: The Movie where Clark was talking to Lois and he said "...swell." well that's the line that was in this movie and I smiled when I heard it because it reminded me of Christoper Reeve's Superman and it was just a little happy moment and that's my next point...
b) Christoper Reeves... no matter what his size no matter if he wasn't muscular enough he was still Superman/Clark Kent and he was great at both roles to be honest... I think that so far Christoper Reeves put on the best superhero role ever and if he was still around... he'd probally win somekind of award for that.

I wouldn't put Ron Howard in the same sentence - or planet - as any good or semi-good director.

well that's you...that's not the rest of the world. regardless of his latest box office flop, his films are heat-felt and the acting in them is ALWAYS superb.

To be honest, from the movies, I would have to say I'm a big fan of Brandon Routh & Kevin Spacey. Christopher Reeve did an amazing job as Superman but I didn't really like his Clark Kent because he seemed to be a bit too nerdy.

I liked Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey in SR, but I have to pick Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman. They are the best.

Even though I loved the first two Superman movies, Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor was much too campy but Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor was much more villainous. I know you all may disagree but I also prefer Brandon Routh's Superman. There's nothing wrong with Christopher Reeve's Superman, I just prefer Routh's Superman.

I like keeping my answers short and sweet for now. So Reeve was noble, Routh is just someone who looks like him, without out the talent. Plus I hate both Lex Luthors, no matter who plays him as long as he is the Donner version.

Margot Kidder was the better Lois though & in my opinion, had a much greater body although Bosworth has sexy feet, imo.
