WiiU

Friend codes are done a bit better on the 3DS.. However, it's not easier than simply allowing us to have bloody Gamertags.

Did they drop the BC with Gamecube?

Does this have a release date yet?

I can't wait to see the first video of a child dropping the WiiU tablet controller.

You know what I truly don't understand about the news behind the Wii U? All of these sources coming out saying that the WiiU is either just as or a little more powerful than the Xbox 360 or PS3.

It should be more powerful than technology that is 7 years old. I see the Wii U being a disaster. Terrible name, underwhelming technology.

The Wii wasnt much more powerful than the Xbox and Gamecube. Nintendo seems to be following in line with how they approached things this gen

me too. To them though, they save money on manufacturing costs. Most console makers release their consoles at a loss but Nintendo tends to profit. It probably wont cost much to manufacture the system. If anything the controller might be the biggest contributor to that

Nintendo expects to price its new console "reasonably," according to a new report.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, CEO Satoru Iwata said, "We won't make the same mistake that we did with the 3DS, which was considered relatively high by consumers."

An analyst in Japan speculates that 30,000 yen would be a price where Nintendo could break even. Regarding the 3DS, Iwata saidm "We've fixed the 3DS profitability issue, and pledge to turn profitable by the end of this fiscal year."

Nintendo declined to discuss launch plans, including price and release date, at E3 last month.

$300 isn't bad. It's at least semi-affordable, and if they release the WiiU by Christmas I can have a family member pay for it :woot:

My original prediction was $349, and I'm sticking with that.

.... Except I see this blowing up in their face.

The leap in performance won't be as great this gen to next gen as it was previously. MS and Sony aren't going to be splurging like they did with the 360 and PS3 since it took them years to start making a profit off selling them. They'll be behind in performance but it's not going to be as noticeable as it was this gen. The Wii looks pretty awful on some HD TVs, as long as it can output at least 720p, it will be good enough for most. All Nintendo has to do is release more Mario, Zelda, and Metroid and people will buy the WiiU.

I've said it before, I think you're going to see the next generation of consoles be more about making the console a full-blown media device instead of just dedicated to gaming.

This. Sony aren't gonna make another $600 console. They'll obviously beat the WiiU (which is apparently at least a little better than PS3) but it won't be as bad as last time.

Obviously?

Is that to say that the next PS will obviously be a more powerful system, or that the next PS will obviously beat the Wii U in sales?

For me, graphics are not as important as how much fun I have playing the games. I'm doing just fine with the Wii because the games I have are a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to HD graphics with the WiiU because I have an HDTV so why not, but thats not my focus. If all I gave two ****s about was graphics I'd be a PC player.

Well guess what guys. In Norway its currently priced 3995 NOK (684$ translated in dollars) Sucky thing is..i'm such a Nintendo fan that i'm probably bying it -_-; with games. That said..i can hope its region free of course..and get it for half the prize by importing from the US. But i dont think so...oh nintendo and your wallet drainers.

That said, about the graphics...all in all i couldnt care less about them..sure i wont complain if its HD, but its not even close to my nr 1 reasons to buy a game. The Story! is the best part about games..not HD Graphics

I don't think you will find anyone on these forums that will say they value graphics over story. The concern about the WiiU being under powered, is if 3rd Party devs will want to port their games from the more powerful (theoretically) PS4/720 to WiiU. All of it is just silly speculation at this point. We have no idea how far apart they will be spec wise.

I still think Nintendo has put themselves in a tough spot though with it's name and with it's less "casual friendly" primary controller. Time will tell though.

It is funny. We probably all raged over the Wii's name several years ago, yet the name fiasco all over again this time with the Wii U seems to be catching twice the hellfire than before with the Wii.

Power/performance. That's what the comment I replied to was talking about, so therefore it is implied I was continuing the conversation.
