Totally agree with most of what you said there.

Has anyone seen the October cover for GameInformer?

cov_234_lgpudh.jpg

Poor Luigi always getting the back of the cover lol.

I mean, if they want to release a Metroid that has graphics on par with both GOW's, I won't complain. But I also wouldn't want them to sacrifice good gameplay mechanics for photorealism and repetitiveness.

I'm sure with the WiiU the new Metroid will look as good as some of those games, but ya, gameplay is always first.

I think Retro said something along the lines they were working on a game everyone wants them to do.....I would assume that's Metroid. Please let us fight Mother Brain this time! That's the one thing I've missed from the Prime trilogy is good old Mother Brain.

Still wish that they would have more than just two generic Toads? Why not main Toad and Toadette? Or Peach and Daisy? Or new characters?

Which is stupid considering that the Wii is essentially a GameCube.

To me it isn't. BC support with the GC is going to have to end at some point, might as well be now. It allows them to not have to design the system to support the GC controllers, memory cards, and disc reader (probably the main reason). Since the WiiU will have its own wireless Classic Controller, there's no need to support the GC controller other than convenience to consumers, but when haven't we been forced to buy new controllers for systems?

I know I will get a classic controller day one. I'm glad they are really supporting that out of the gate. It was a pain to use the Gamecube controller (still one of my favorite controllers) with the Wii (maybe that's just because of my setup). And the "classic" controller for the Wii itself was weak I thought, and sometimes unresponsive or lagged a bit.

I will say one thing that excites me more about the Wii U, is the ability to use the classic controller on almost all games from what I've heard.

It's hard being a Luigi fan. He's always been my favorite Mario character. I really wish they would give you the option of playing as him from the start in every Mario.

Not only that, but they really ought to go back to Mario 2 and give all the characters different abilities. Hell they should just make a new one of those. I'm still pretty bitter that "New Super Mario Bros. 2" wasn't a NEW..."Super Mario Bros. 2." :cmad:

You're thinking to "out of the box" for Ninteno. Giving us several characters...each with different abilities would be too hard for the chillrens now.

This game is stunning.

The developers behind Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 working on two other projects

Mass-Effect-3-Wii-U-3-Small.jpg

Tom Crago, the head of Straight Right — an Australian developer that’s working on Mass Effect 3 for Wii U — has revealed that they’ve “got two other titles in development” for the platform. One of the titles is their own creation — an original IP — while the other is a “big franchise that will come out in 2013″.

Glad to see so many people excited about it. I suspect a lot of indie developers will want to get in on it and see what they can throw together regarding the tablet's functions and the tv screen, similar to people creating random games/apps for smartphones.

I'm genuinely interested in New Super Mario Bros. U. It thankfully doesn't seems to be recycling the same visual and audio assets of every other "new" Mario game.

Trine 2: Enter the Wii U Dragon
In a world of Mario and Pikmin, it's easy to overlook a gorgeous 2D sidescroller fantasy. Pro Tip: Don't.
by Richard George l September 10, 2012

There's a chance you've never heard of Trine 2. If you haven't, you're missing out. A side-scrolling platformer set in a whimsical fantasy world, the first release of the game (back in December 2011) scored a high mark from IGN. Turns out the adventure game is not only gorgeous, it plays incredibly well, packed with fantastic 2D action and puzzles.

So that's good news for Wii U owners, because a Director's Cut of the game is coming to Wii U, complete with an expanded version of the recently-released "Goblin Menace" expansion pack. Even better - Trine 2 is due to release at the system's launch. Developer Frozenbyte is working on polishing various elements of the original game - including tweaking gameplay, geometry, vocals and the overall user experience. The Director's Cut will also support both Wii remotes and the Wii U GamePad, complete with touch controls.

Frozenbyte has had plenty of time to perfect the Trine 2 experience on Wii U. In fact the team had a version of the game up and running on Nintendo's system in two days, giving them plenty of time to adjust visuals and implement touch screen functionality. While general movement and platforming controls are still operated through traditional button inputs, players can now move and manipulate in-game objects through the GamePad screen.

Ahead of Nintendo's Wii U press conference this Thursday, we wanted to give you a little taste of Trine 2. Check out some gorgeous new screenshots of the Director's Cut below.

Why haven't I heard about this game before?

That looks awesome.

Super Mario Bros. U being compared to Super Mario World makes me giddy.

Those screenshots right there already give a pretty clear cut example of the graphic power.

2D side scrollers are a cop out. It's an excuse to skip out on graphics.

Please elaborate how it's an excuse.
uhhhhh, because there is less graphics used on a 2D game. Compare New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I mean, do I have to elaborate more?

What worries me is from rumored specs...is there no optical output on the Wii U?

That's more of a developer issue.

That's not fair...even 2D games can look stunning. Rayman Origins was visually beautiful and trust me, in motion Legends looks twice the better (I played it, it is gorgeous in motion). I doubt either Rayman game could have the same high-quality "wow" animation if everything was polygonal (although I imagine cel-shading would have looked awesome, too).
