Comedy Wile E. Coyote vs. ACME

It should not be allowed to get a tax write-off for a completed product like this. It's insanity. Not to mention a complete and total waste.

According to this article, Paramount is the leading contender to buy the movie (though nothing is final).

And an interesting tidbit: “Warners is playing hardball as they want to cover the $70M [production cost] and then some.”

I would have thought WB might be willing to sell at a loss — as long as it was a smaller loss than the write-down option. But it seems WB is actually hoping to score a profit from this mess. :crso:

I’m nervous about this. If WB plays hardball then theyre gonna take the tax write off if they feel they can get more money that way. Someobody’s gonna need to make a big for at least a good amount more than the amount theyre getting for tax write off.

Hopefully, this movie will be released in theaters at some point.

My translation of this is that Zaslav wanted to make the bad press go away and fool people into thinking he tried to sell this, but never actually intending on doing so. He's the worst thing that could ever possibly happen to WB.

Exclusive or not, I have to ask why The Wrap is hiding this article behind a paywall. Not that this news may not be true, but why paywall it when other articles are free to read no problem?

This sucks! :csad:
This makes no sense. Wasn't the tax write off only supposed to be for $35 million? Why would Zaslav try to go for more than double that amount? Like you were planning on dumping it for $35 million anyway, so just sell it for that same amount and get zero bad press in the process.

That's depressing. What a miserable state of affairs. I feel bad for the people who poured months or years of their lives into making this. The little footage we had showed a lot of really fantastic work done on it and it's sad to see it being burned to satisfy the capitalist gods.

The movie isn't even truly "saved" yet. Zaslav is just letting the filmmakers shop it around. Who knows what sales terms or prices will be acceptable to WBD to not can the film for tax reasons.

The fact that Zaslav's solution to this PR nightmare is to sell a film starring century old iconic Warner IP and is testing extremely well to another distributer or streaming service is all anyone needs to know about the mess going on at that studio.
I believe this is the definition of "called it".

Very disappointing to hear. No doubt there will be more disappointments like this while that wretch remains in charge.

But Warner Bros., which stood to make $35 – $40 million on the tax write-down, wanted something in the ballpark of $75 – $80 million from a buyer. And what’s more, they wouldn’t allow the interested studios to counter Warner Bros.’ offer. It was a “take it or leave it” situation, one that the other studios didn’t even know they were entering into, insiders told TheWrap.

So... if someone offered WB $50M — $10M better than the best-case write-down scenario — WB would refuse that offer? Well, that's just looney tunes. :o
