Iron Man the next Spidey?

No. That would mean Iron Man 3 would suck.

:woot: Spider-man 3 sucked.

You've just made yourself look like a complete idiot. First of all, I havn't stated anything as fact, I've corrected you by informing your incompetent mind that you're basing your statements on opinion not known fact. All I've done is challenge you on those statements. Now, since when did Japan or China represent the WW Bo outside of the US? There are at least roughly, another 190 countries that you've managed to leave out. So it's fact that they all love robot and armoured movies? :whatever: I don't think so. If that was the case, Steel would have been a BO hit but guess what? It sucked...thirdly, as I said before, my initial comment was focusing on the US BO which was the focus at hand, so please in future, try not to respond to threads or posts that project comments and ideas of a sensical manner as opposed to plaguing us with your obtuse jibberish, you jackass.:o

Well shoot, dude...he called you Spanky. You obviously lose.

:o You is Spanky.

The way I see it, only The Dark Knight has the potential to top Spidey, and I think even that is very unlikely. The reason I say this is because Batman, like someone before already said, is one of the three main superheroes out there . . . and throwing The Joker in the mix (a villain that brings out the best in the hero and almost beats the guy in the popularity ratings) should add better BO numbers next year.

Batman has the best chances, but I have the feeling even The Dark Knight is punching above his weight in this battle. I do, however, wish IronMan all the best because this film looks like it's going to kick a$$ and I'm not even interested in how much money it makes -- as long as I enjoy the film then the rest is immaterial.

iron man wont come close to what spiderman did.
almost everyone has heard of spiderman, and they marketing that film very very well.
alot of people know iron man but not as many as spiderman.

Agreed.

As others have said Iron Man will not touch Spidey's BO gross, but i really hope we get a good movie, and i hope it makes enough to warrant a sequel. I think that is the best we can hope for.

Well, we're not supposed to be interested in how much money a flick makes. But if something we love fails at the box office, we freak out. And if something that sucks does well, the same thing, and vice versa. So we do care. Box office only matters to you when the movie you love or hate succeeds or fails, respectively.

^I'm the same, but if its good, i also want to see a sequel in many cases, except for things like V For Vendetta and Memento were one is not necessary.

nooooooooooooooooo way.

is this really possible? :woot:

After seeing the trailer, I think Iron Man has a hell of a lot of potential.

Why? B/c he seems like an ignorant jackass, lol. And that's a good thing.

Like others have said, Spidey is loved by all because his character appeals to all.

IM on the other hand, would probably appeal to adults and young adults such as ourselves.

He's a little more adult in nature, and less "i'm a hero b/c its right". He's more like "that's right *****es take a pic of my while I smash this thug. BTW, I'm single ladies".

He appeals to a whole different demographic- the same one as Batman. Although I do think IM will be a little lighter and colourful than TDK.

Ah well in the end I think we'll be seeing two fantastic comic book movies next summer. And its about time!:yay:

If the first film is good, generates good word of mouth and becomes a hit and they make a few more movies...who knows? :woot:

^Well, i think that is what we are all hoping will happen, i wonder how much IM has to make before Marvel consider a sequel.

With them not being a normal studio, it might not have to make tons of profit for them to greenlight a sequel.

From what I heard, Favs actually has the stories for the potential 2 follow up movies that, all tie into each other. IM will do well, its not even up for debate.

I beg to differ, i dont think its guaranteed that it will do well personally.

Did you read Empire's report on IM when IM was on the cover?

In the article it states that whenever anyone asked them why they were in America, and they said for coverage of IM, people would say things like "Never heard of it."

Stuff like that gets me worried, so a lot depends on the marketing IMO.

Never heard of it? So? There are millions of people who don't know an IM movie is being made and its not out for another 8 months. I assure you that, within that time people will hear of it. Hell, the teaser only just came out.
Look at the matrix movie. That film was slept on initially, even when it was released countless people still knew nothing of it and look at it now, one of the best movies ever made and one of the most popular film franchises ever (despite the dissapointing sequals).

Im so rooting for IM to be a successful franchise. Its happening for Transformers so why not Iron Man?

I'm rooting for Iron Man too. So far, it's very polished.

Dont get me wrong, i really do hope its a good movie and is successful, but CB films tend to find it harder to win over the audience.

And The Matrix is a bad analogy IMO, The Matrix offered something new, and showed it off in the trailers, Ironman is obviously just another CB movie, so it have a harder job to garner interest IMO.

I dont think IM will be the next spidey franchise at all. Like someone said, IM is not exactly a household name like spiderman/superman/hulk so it might be a hard sell on the general public.
I think it will be a decent movie;maybe the same success or better than FF4/GR/DD. Only time will tell for sure how successful this movie can be.

I think Iron Man has the potential to be a great movie, and I think it will meet that. As far as matching Spidey's numbers, I cannot say, but most likely not. Although I think it will be the next Spidey hit, meaning it will be the biggest superhero movie coming out. I read that the main cast has signed a three movie deal, so they are obviously hoping for that, and I think they can pull it off. While Spidey has a plethora of villains, so does the X-Men, yet they have failed to fully utilize it to their potential. I do still think the X-Men films were good, but obviously one thing they could have implemented was use of more popular villains, like Sinister, Omega Red, Apocalypse (I know) but still. As far Iron Man, I can see Mandarin being in all the films with side villains, or something to that approach.

As far as being a recognizable character, Spider-Man obviously drew in and appealed to the "old" fans but the "old" fans also know who Iron Man is. When I said "old" I mean growing up in the 90's, and I purely speak for my generation then, but I definitely knew who Iron Man was. Obviously I liked and knew Spidey better, but what helps Iron Man is the fresh new mystery of a story to me. Not complete mystery but you get my drift. Also to the younger kids, they don't know how these characters are but they will. When was the last successful Spider-Man series? Back in the 90's along with the X-Men, yet they faired well in the box office. My little cousin is four and to my knowledge hasn't seen any Spider-Man cartoons, but the toy commercials, trademark materials, and advertising definitely fills him in. He loves Spider-Man but has yet to really see anything about the character other than his costume. Iron Man will most likely have that same effect on the young ones.

^I think kids will like the look of it, what it not to like there from a childs point of view? But adults need to be interested as well, and at this point it seems only one's who read the comic are, but that could easily change.
