I saw the Continuum board and it said that no word has been given for a renewal by CW network. They are still gonna do a finale. But we may get stuck in Smallville limbo if it doesn't come back.

The official word doesn't come until April I think, or May, but yes, it will be renewed, it's the #1 show in the network, and Gough has been talking about an 8th season.

The only shows that are in danger of getting cancelled are Veronica Mars, and this may be the last season for the Gilmore Girls and 7th Heaven, and last I heard Supernatural had a 50/50 chance.

The other thing hasn't the season finale been deescribed as a cliffhanger?

I don't think they'd do a cliffy season ender if they'd been worried about not coming back next year....

normally id say the number 1 rated show on a netowrk is assured of renewal. but with Dawn "i hate intelligent thinking" Ostroff in charge, who really knows?

That's right. And Gough also said, that the network usually advises them around episode 9 or 10 if they arent going to be picked up for a new season, so that they can then proceed to write the last half as the end of the series.

I loved how he phrased it in that one interview - they HAVE to know by a certain time so that they can start...

"The launch sequence."

Hee! That still gives me a chuckle. It's as if they have the whole thing basically written, they just need to know when to light the fuse, because once they set that snowball in motion, they're committed to ending the show 10 or so episodes later.

Its actually rather comforting knowing that if it is going to end, that it will end with a proper ENDING.

Thinking about the end of the show makes me excited about:supes:, but at the same time makes me :( because it will mean no more Smallville.:csad:

It should be picked up but me mind won't be at ease until it is. It looked like Angel was going to get a sixth season, money had been poured into it as the sets were completely changed, Spike was added to the cast, the show had changed to be more network friendly and more viewer friendly, it was getting more critical praise than ever before, the Joss Whedon had more time to work on it as Buffy was over and it's ratings were increasing. Then it was cancelled, with three episodes left to film.

So i always worry from now on with shows I like.

Ya never know. Plenty of shows get yanked after a big cliffhanger finale, or at least are in danger of cancellation despite the fact.

Not doubting that Smallville will be picked up again, though. Just pointin' it out.

Well, I suppose there's always that but I doubt Warner Brothers would want them to end one of their more lucrative TV skeins on such a sour note.

Well, it's happened before. Just sayin'.

I don't for one minute believe this is the last season for SV, BUT, I wouldn't say its chances were 100% either. CW is doing some re-heeeely strange things these days. They're out to lunch. Seriously. LOL

It'll be bittersweet for sure. But hey, think about it, you'll have 7-8 years worth of DVDs chronicling Clark Kent's journey to Superman--that's something pretty special, moreso than just a 2 hour movie.

True, this is the Dawn Ostroff and Les Moonves controlled netlet...

WB definitely got the short end of the stick in the deal, didn't they?

Justice League Unlimited was by far the best show on CN. But i got the axe......

You just never know what a network will do.

I expect one more year out of Smallville. Then I'm gone because Rosenbaum is gone. I don't care what they do post-Season-7, I'm ending with 7.

It'll be back for another round. No doubt.
