Will Smith, Joel Edgerton to Star in David Ayer’s Cop Thriller ‘Bright’

Yeah, I don't see what was so bad that this warranted to be called worst film of 2017.

People are sheep and like to follow what they hear is the cool thing to do basically, which includes bashing something that has a sudden cult hate following. Netflix is basically the Disney of streaming, they can afford a couple bad movies and still come out ahead of everyone else in the game.

Great premise. First half was pretty good, second half completely fell apart however. Not the worst film I've seen this year. A lot of potential in the idea that just wasn't executed correctly.

OK who else got a laugh out of this:

Like it literally has the same big ass plot twist from Training Day. OK, not exactly the same, but same basic idea.

The wife and I just finished this. Not bad. About halfway through, it stops being a David Ayer film and becomes a David Ayer attempt at a Guillermo Del Toro film. That’s not a knock, either. I like David Ayer, and I like the effort he put in.

I think my issues with the movie are what is left out. It felt like there were some connective tissue scenes cut in the first act - anything further fleshing out some of the secondary characters. I also really needed a prologue or flashbacks to 2,000 years ago to set up the Dark Lord as a threat.

Overall, the film was enjoyable. Its flaws run throughout, but don’t detract enough for me to not like it.

7/10
We had that. It's called the LOTR trilogy :)

Seriously though, this film is probably what it's like if LOTR's world just continued into the modern times.

I enjoyed this. I guess I can understand why critics wouldn't be big on it, but it doesn't deserve the all out thrashing its been getting by certain reviewers. Ayer does put some effort into it, although I wish we got to explore the world he set up more and it would have helped had we gotten some kind of flashback or prologue to help establish the so called threat. The script definitely has issues, especially when it comes to how thinly written the characters are, but Smith and Edgerton have great chemistry and I liked Noomi Rapace as the villain even though she didn't do much besides kick a lot of ass. I could have done without the over the top characters though like the one Ike Barinholtz played and the gangster dude in the wheelchair.

7/10

The sequel should be a 6 episode series instead of another film but I enjoyed it. The 3rd act went way too quick though and it seemed like they were going around in circles in the city. I wanted to feel more of the entire city like Beverly Hills, the beach, suburbs etc.

I actually thought this was ok so 7/10.

I liked it. Good chemistry between the leads, pretty cool villains, good action scenes. Almost like a straightforward 90's movie.

Still needed some work though, structurally it just falls apart after the first hour. Really liked the ideas this movie was presenting though. Genuinely feels like what a modern day Middle Earth would evolve to. I'm not sure why it's getting crapped on by critics as much as it is, it's not terrible by any means, certainly not the worst movie of the year like some are saying.

I watched the first half of this last night before passing out and was kind of digging it. Didn't really seem all that terrible to me. Not sure why the critics have torn it apart so much.

Read about it. Pretty much flew by me when the reveal came in.

The funniest moment for me was that
Will Smith's character don't **** with no faeries.

Could be a great TV series. Not sure you even need Will Smith or Edgerton every episode.

Just explore different parts of the world every episode.

Then it becomes SyFy or BBCAmerica Friday night fodder.

It was merely ok... it could have been great, the concept/idea is genius.

knows someone the names of the orcisch songs like the one who nick plays in the car and the one from the orc party ?

I very much enjoyed it, thought it as a whole lot of fun...cant wait for the sequel.

If you're referring to the thing about Jakoby having saved younger Orc who was about to kill him, yea I thought about Training Day too when I saw that.

I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the sequel. I still think it needs to be a show rather than a movie.

Yeah I do not get the hate for this at all. I didn't see the RT score beforehand but I did hear about the "worst movie of 2017" headline.

I mean it's not great. It feels a bit long. Lacked a great or even above average action scene. And for sure the racism allegory was paper thin. But Smith was good in it and so was Edgerton. I agree with sci-fiwolf, it needed a prologue or something.

It was fine, I was very surprised by the low score. I do wonder though, how I would've received it if I paid to see it at a theater rather than watching from the comfort of my couch.

Didn't get a laugh but I did notice.

However
[BLACKOUT]The scenes did play out much differently [/BLACKOUT]

The concept and world-building are really what saves it and why I'd actually like to see the sequel expand on that.

The rest was generic buddy cop stuff with Will Smith being decent and Joel Edgerton almost a non-factor behind all the make-up. They could have got a no-name technically and had the same result.

I think that's why the audience reaction is a bit more forgiving. We're already paying for Netlix so anything new from them is a bonus. This would not be worth $12 in theater.

This was ok. Had a good concept and world building. Smith was good in the role. But I never bought how Jacoby became a cop in the first place. He didn’t seem particularly skilled or intelligent. He was very naive.

Yeah I think $5-$8 matinee is more of this film's level.

I thought this looked like it was going to be kinda trash, but it was ok. Really needed some better action and tighter pacing.

Mr Right is one hell of a good time.
Haven't yet seen American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein,
nor finished his Dr Who-esque tv series.

You liked Mr. Right? That was such a weird movie.

His ego writes checks his movies can’t cash.

Exactly.

Even if he had the resume of Scorsese, Spielberg, or whoever he'd be annoying. But it's even worse that he has only written 1 (2 counting Bright) movies that are at least "decent"

Im not trying to insult cops or anything like that, but becoming a cop isnt THAT difficult from what I hear. It's not like it's only the best of the best necessarily sign up. It's not like every cop has military background and it's not like the SEALs or Marine.

Again, can't be more clear, I am not trying to insult cops. I'm just saying I can see how someone not that skilled or intelligent can become a cop. Especially since Jakoby was a rookie right? It's not like he's a seasoned veteran.

You know what I watched last night? Flatliners 2017. Why? Insomnia...boredom...Lack of respect for myself. And I cannot see how in a year when Transformers 6, Baywatch, and Flatliners 2017 (and from what I hear The Emoji Movie, The Bye Bye Man, Fifty Shades Darker, Monster Trucks, and xxx2) that this can be called the worse movie.

Again I'm not saying Bright is great, but we've had some **** this year. Some down low dog ****. Everyone has their own opinion, but I do not get the low opinion of this movie some have.
