Will Smith's Concussion

Can Christian Bale get into NFL shape, tho? :o

Give us Prometheus 2 Ridley!

Ridley, make the Prometheus Sequel already

I love football movies but come on, I dont want to hear more about concussions and players. They all just got paid $800 million by the NFL and they made hell of alot of money then most would in their lifetime for a game they chose to play.

Well, you could say that about any entertainment worker where danger is involved.

‘Concussion’ Trailer: Will Smith Takes on the NFL

Posted on Monday, August 31st, 2015 by Angie Han

Even if you’re not particularly a sports fan, you’ve likely heard about the ongoing controversy over head injuries in the NFL. This winter, a new movie dramatizes that fight. Will Smith plays Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic neuropathologist who discovers the first case of CTE in a pro football player. He tries to alert the public to his findings, but the NFL denies his conclusions and stymies his efforts at every turn. Watch the Concussion trailer after the jump.

Sportswriter Peter King debuted the Concussion trailer on The MMBQ.
In an accompanying interview with King, director Peter Landesman explained why he’d made the movie.
I gravitate towards stories of David versus Goliath, the small man versus the machine. Whether it is Bennet Omalu or Gary Webb, a reporter who discovered the cocaine trafficking with the CIA and was destroyed by the Washington Post and the CIA and others. In my writing career as a journalist, it was little man against the machine so I think I am just hard-wired for that narrative. When I heard about Bennet Omalu, I recognized that the story operated on a number of levels that made it completely unique. As an immigrant coming to America, who discovers a dangerous detail about the most American of things, America’s sacred cow, who then is forced to tell America about itself as a disaffected Nigerian, it was an extraordinary opportunity to explore what it is to be an American. And it was a gorgeous way to understand what it is to be a citizen of this nation. And then there was the sports element. I played football for two years in college, I love the game, I am an athlete, I love sports and I watch football. I went to Brown, the powerhouse. I thought this was another way to un-peel the layers away from the theater of it and the pageantry of it to get to the humanity of it.
While Concussion has yet to debut anywhere, our own Peter Sciretta caught some footage from it at CinemaCon earlier this year, and seemed intrigued by Smith’s transformative, emotional performance. You can see his reaction here (the Concussion part starts at 1:11).

Based on the 2009 GQ article Game Brain by Jeanne Marie Laskas, Concussion arrives in theaters December 25. Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Albert Brooks also star. Ridley Scott produced.

Looks like it could be good. It's definitely a good thing this film is getting made.

I am surprised a movie like this is made because the NFL has been very protective of their image in movies and TV.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Im surprised this got made at all

Well if anyone has the clout in Hollywood to push this through, it'd be Big Willy. Oh an it has a great cast.

The title got me thinking poor Will suffers a concussion.
Will loves biopics on athletes.

I think the thing is, everyone realizes now how full of sh** the NFL is, so it was probably easier to make this film than it would have been a few years ago.

Anyway, this really looks excellent. Smith in particular really looks great here. I hope they portray Roger Goodell as the arrogant turd/corporate yes man that he truly is.

I love her. I need her to appear as a superheroine. ANY superheroine.

This looks like an interesting drama....but see, my thing is I just dont like it when Will goes for these dark, super serious roles. I feel like these roles never fit him well imo. Will can do drama very well but only when he accents it with his natural charm ( Pursuit of Happiness). I dunno, just my opinion, I dont like Will Smith movies where theres no levity to his performance.

She was great in Belle. And she's going to be in the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast film. Maybe she could play Misty Knight in the Iron Fist Netflix show, or Monica Rambeau?

Good suggestions. She could also make a good Voodoo if DC ever decides to tap into its Wildstorm characters. Others that would work: Hawkgirl, Huntress or Manhunter (Kate Spencer). Or even a supporting character like Shondra Kinsolving in a Batman film would be fine.

So, that's it, huh? The NFL's just some kinda concussion factory?

I mean Im surprised that people, not saying you, are surprised by that.

I thought it would be common knowledge that getting hit in the head, even with protection is not good for a person\

Also I dont think that Goodell scene is that bad unless im missing something
