When you see a thread bump and hope for a teaser, but just a pointless comment.

Godzilla thread all over again.

I don't care for the original Blade Runner but Arrival made me believe that I could care for this new one.

That's the power of Villeneuve! I've yet to see Arrival and it certainly seems like it won't let me down.

Yea, I'm one of few people who think that film is seriously over-rated and I've been told I don't understand why it's so slow and somewhat empty and I have to admit I really don't. :woot: But it's nice to read other people's commentaries so I can understand their point of view of why they love the film so much. And I've found I can appreciate the film much more due to the comments of others.

I do appreciate Blade Runner's outstanding visuals and soundtrack but I feel that the film is emotionally empty and that the characters are too thin. The tears in the rain speech is the only time I felt anything in the film.

I must add that I'm okay with movies being deliberately paced. Arrival is a deliberately paced film and it's my favorite film of the year so far. But I have to like it during that slow pace so...

I disagree that it's "emotionally empty," and the character, while not the deepest, are still interesting.

I now question our common views on anything film related. :funny:

Because I have seen a lot of complaints about Blade Runner, but that one is brand new to me. If Blade Runner is anything, I'd call it emotional.

I think the only remotely interesting character is Rutger Hauer's character. Harrison Ford looks really bored in the film. I feel it's by far one of his weaker performances.

Hauer was the genuine reason I was completely focused on the movie.

I liked the movie a lot, but then there was a lot of moments where i could hear myself falling asleep.

Personally Roy Batty showing compassion to Rick Deckard in the face of his death is one of the most human moments I've ever experienced in a movie. Incredibly beautiful and moving climax to a film.

Totally agree on BR. I have tried watching that movie a number of times and just don't get what's so special about it. Despite liking the visuals and soundtrack like you.

Not seen Arrival yet but plan on doing so based on the reviews. But yeah this director seems like he could get me interested in a new BR movie.

There are many reasons Blade Runner is regarded as one of the finest sci-fi films ever. Doesn't mean everyone should love or care for it.

I've seen new converts to the appeal of this movie since ARRIVAL's release and success. Come join me and a select few for now on the Villeneuve train folks.

Precisely. I absolutely adore Blade Runner. It's in my top 10 films. But it would be absolutely asinine for me to push what I determine to be good or bad on other people.

Count me in as well as one of those who doesn't care for the movie. I watched it twice (with the Harrison Ford voiceover and without) and the movie just feels so sloooooowwww and empty. Yes, I get it, it's a movie about androids, but damn sometimes it just felt like watching paint dry. Rutger Hauer WAS good, especially in the end monologue but our lead character, Deckard just gave me nothing to work with because Ford was forced to turn off his signature charm.

I will say one thing though, Vangelis' score for the film is one of the finest pieces of cinematic scoring I've ever heard. I constantly listen to the soundtrack.

After Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival, I almost have no doubt that I'm gonna prefer 2049 over the original. Villeneuve knows how to do slow burn but keep you engaged with interesting, compelling characters throughout so it never feels boring.

I've always loved the original movie.

If you like it too....cool.

If you don't like it....cool.

Life goes on.

Life does not go on. That is what Blade Runner teaches us. :o

Old man you're losing it. Boot those naysayers off the Hype for dissing Blade Runner.

That's the philosophy of Gaff. I follow the beliefs of Deckard.

Would I boot someone for choosing to eat tofu instead of steak....no, I simply smile and say more steak for me.

Better yet, we need our version of the Voight-Kampff Test.
It's called the C. Lee Screening.

This is a philosophy I can live by. Maybe the wisest thing I have ever heard really.

It's called the C. Lee Screening.
And your amount of retirements is legend.
