I have been thinking about the crap directors that keep getting to make movies e.g. Bretr ratner, Michael bay, MCG.

These guys have made atleast one decent film in the past and maybe it was only good because of timing but these guys just keep on making trash that isnt well recieved and I wonder why we keep giving them a chance...are they destined to only make trash from now on?

I think McG is done.

Brett is more into producing now. Did you know that he and this Aussie tycoon is funding most of Warner Bros' movies now? Either way, he'll be known as a great director. Beverly Hill Cop 4? I don't know what makes him qualify to make a sequel to the classic series. Keep in mind that the first film HAD A OSCAR NOM FOR ITS SCREENPLAY. The first movie meant a lot to people, and I don't think another movie come close to it.

Bay… While I liked Pain & Gain, it's due to his hubris. It's like going into his brain, and seeing how he wants the world to be like: Beautiful people, awesome jingoism, objectivity of women, and the threat of smart people. The man doesn't know his satire, but damn, his insanity is fascinating.

In the real world, not just in Hollywood, once you're successful you're allowed a lot of failures.

You can see this with professional athletes. Former superstars or even merely-good players can suck for a long time before losing their spot to a rookie.

And Bay doesn't actually suck. His movies are very successful.

Even his awful and disgusting Transformers 2 made a lot of dough. It's still a blackeye to the series, and to his entire filmography. At least to me.

I still like The Rock and the craziness of Bad Boys 2 though.

Doesnt matter if you or I think its trash, if he makes a billion $ a movie we will be allowed to make movies as long as he wants.

Depends on your idea of success but Bay is pretty horrible its just fortunate he makes loud splosion sexy lady movies. Sex always sells

Bay keeps getting work because he's made people A LOT of money and people like his movies. People keep asking about this, and it's always the same answer. Has been for years.

Bay is the strange case where he's sincerely critic proof and his movies makes money.

But boy oh boy, he and his editor apparently don't know how to edit anymore. Characters disappear and reappear out of no where; and there's no reason for a Transformer movie to be 2 and a half hours long, especially when there's so much filler jammed in there.

I personally don't like Michael Bay's films, but they make a ton of money. Why would studios try to fix something that isn't broken? He'll continue to make films and honestly, I have nothing against him. He clearly likes the films he is doing and they are making money. More power to him. I'd think he was a hack if he was clearly just in it for the money and doing garbage just for cash..."selling out" as they say, but you can't call it that when he actually enjoys what he's doing and you can tell from his interviews and such that the guy genuienly loves his types of films as much as Scorsese loves his. As I said, more power to him. I think they suck, but I can always not see them, which is what I do. No skin off my nose.

This right here.

You really cant put Bay in the same camp as Ratner and McG in a case like this.

That being said to answer the OP: McG IM pretty sure isn't going to come back to the, mediocre, level he was at before. He tried to do something different with Terminator Salvation and then he went back to what he's more known for with This Means War which did make decent money but I don't think anyone remember or cares about it much.

EDIT: I just found out that he did "3 Days to Kill" that Costner movie no one really cared about

It's the audience that allows them to make more movies by watching their movies. Complaining about the quality of the Transformers-movies for example really becomes pointless as long as they can continue to make over a billion dollars worldwide. It's business after all, and business is about making money. Like it or not.

This really isnt about money or choosing to not watch their movies. Im asking if they will ever bring out a highly regarded film again.
Thanks for the input though folk :)

I don't think McG has ever directed a movie that was highly regarded.

3 Days to Kill
This Means War
Terminator Salvation
We Are Marshall
Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
Charlie's Angels

Nope, he hasn't.

Bay is printing money. He will continue to get to do whatever he wants.

So the real question is will he ever find the artist inside of him to actually consider making a highly regarded film. I have the feeling if he really wanted to, he could be a very fine film director. But so far he seems to want to make fun films that make a lot of money and don't really ask much of the audience.

His next movie might be it, but he needs to stay away from Transformers. Period. I think it really broke him creatively.

Pain and Gain was the first time Bay gave a damn in a while. And I liked it but I feel reception is a bit mixed.

His new movie about the Benghazi incident does sound like it'll be something good though.
