I didn't think it was THAT bad, Godzilla looked cool

He did. For him alone, I give it a 0.5/10

Yeah, I haven't seen it myself, but I've read and Heard this same opinion on various places now. That's too bad, it looked awesome in the trailers. "TASM2" all over again.

Is this going to be like last summer with big promising films ending up disappointing?

I'm starting to get sick of trailers making the films look much better than they actually are. The marketing is, in other words, too good. It's like film makers don't even try anymore because they know the marketing will make it look better and draw people in anyway. They make some Money shots that will make it to the trailer, then the rest is half assed.

Again, I haven't seen the film, but I'm starting to see a trend with these blockbusters nowadays.

You might end up liking it. Don't give up hope yet. I liked TASM2 but a lot of people didn't. Again, it's all a matter of opinion. I'll have mine and you'll have yours.

Cranston was awesome as always, but he didn't get enough screentime.

The actual Godzilla/Mutog bits were pretty awesome though

He did. But this Godzilla seemed weak. I mean, he only managed to overpower those batlike creatures after a prolonged fight of 15 minutes. And that too with a fire-breathing ability he should have used in the first place instead of trying to bite their heads off.

I hope JOE likes it though. He was really looking forward to this one.

On another topic, is anyone really depressed about the whole killing off Gwen thing? It just feels so wasted as nobody really likes or remembers this film, so her death, whilst really powerful, seems kind of meaningless?

The actual death itself is pretty messed up, obviously it happened in the comics and stuff, but oh my, the stuff portrayed in the movie just seemed too great to be gone so quickly

I was actually liking the whole hype they were creating before Godzilla came. Cranston should have had more screen time. The plot line between him and his son was not given its proper due. Also, Godzilla could have been a real threat and they botched it up by including those bat-spider hybrids. It sucks all the more that this movie had the potential to be great. All the elements were there, but they screwed it up with the director and the script.

I'm glad they killed Gwen off.

Yup. Her death propelled this one to my favourite CBM of all time. If Webb can make the 3rd one without any external interference (I am looking at you, Arad), he could break the second sequel curse.

I agree, it didn't need to be shoehorned in to the end of this one. Have Harry's descent begin in this film but leave in for ASM3 and a grand finale. Gwen's death was really well executed but it was awkward inside the rest of the movie. Gwen deserved another film (alive).

Also speaking of Godzilla, how do you guys feel about the 1998 one? I watched it the other day and I still love it, surprised it got so much hate

I gave up for a while after One More Day, Ultimate Peter's death was also annoying. I have flittered in and out of Spidey comics these last few years, picking up random TPBs and seeing where they take me. I've heard many good things about the Spider-Island storyline, that might be my next point of call.

I gave all my old ones away to my friend who is a huge Spidey fan but doesn't have a lot of money or opportunity to get comics in his home country. I kept some of my TPBs but I gave most of my collection to him. My oldest used to be the first Rhino appearance maybe?

I got One More Day as a birthday present, the night I read it I was extremely disturbed. I really need to check that out, it sounds great from everything I've heard about it. I might be missing out to some but I'm not going to pick up one Superior issue, I don't like the premise at all.
