At the end of Q1, worldwide sales of the PlayStation 3 stand at approximately 4.48 million (prior to Q1 2007 Sony only quoted units shipped not sold). 3.57 million came in the final half of the previous year, with a disappointing 0.71 million recorded in the first quarter 2007. Despite the console's poor sales in Q1, Sony has announced that it expects to sell a further 10.29 million units in the following three quarters, ending March 2008.

If Sony can meet its forecast then as of March 31, 2008, worldwide PlayStation 3 sales will have reached approximately 14.5 million units.

Man oh man. That is a lofty goal, indeed.

I think they have some kind of plan in place to ensure that they at least sell 10mil by March

10 million does sound like a lot, but the console should start to pick up some momentum. Some of the better, exclusive games are hitting the PS3 finally, and the Christmas period should help to shift plenty of units. A real price drop rather than any temporary joke like we got at E3 will help enourmously too.

If the PS3 has sold 4.5 million units so far, it's not so tough a target for it to sell 10 million units in the next three quarters.

$399 sole sku could pull that off with the right killer apps. Like killzone and mgs in the same period.

HOPEFULLY THEY CAN PULL IT OFF!!!:D:up:

I want to say that I think it will make it that far, but im not so sure. While im not a fanboy of any of the 3 major systems (i honestly love the competition, and want them all to succeed), i just dont think we could see that many PS3's fly off the shelf. I know the apps are coming, but there really arent any system sellers for the mainstream crowd outside of Madden until COD4, both multiplatform. We have Heavenly Sword, which could push some sales, but then Haze in October? Not much else until 2008, after the Xmas push. Parents want to buy their kids consoles which can play games then, right then. Im thinking around 11.5-12mil for em by March, but not much more. I do hope, however, that I'm proved wrong.

I seriously doubt they're going to get that many sales, considering how poor sales have been for the past 5-6 months. Unless they have some sort of ace up their sleeve, or they're just plain delusional, I can't see that happening.

The price drop plus all the great games coming starting with Lair should help a lot, that many by March, I dont know, but they'll do better than they have

Don't for get this triple threat.

Lair August 14th
WarHawk August 28th
Heavenly Sword September 4th

Sales have already increased 135% with a price drop without games. There were no killer apps available but people flooded the stores to get one. When Heavenly Sword comes out (which could, if promoted right, be the next Devil May Cry), and Sony hopefully makes another price drop on the 80 gig, they will be rectifying a lot of mistakes. You can't count past sales that much because things are so much different now. BEfore, the PS3 had s***ty games, now the good ones are just about here.

Then:

Rachet and Clank Sep 30
Haze Nov 28
Unreal Tournament before the end of the year.

I guarantee another price drop for the holidays.

Unreal could push A LOT of sales. That's like Counter Strike on crack.

I dont think they are really aiming for 14.5 million. I think 10 is more like it.

They would need another price drop for this to happen, alot of the "games you've been waiting your whole life for" are coming from Aug 07-March 08.

They can hit that number if they lower the price to a competitive level. Otherwise, forget it.

LOL if it was $299, it would be like 15 million easy.

$399 should do it though.

If they lower it to somewhere between 299 and 399, I'm getting one this Christmas.
Is it totally BC now?

I think there might be a few titles that may have issues but not much at all. The BC is very high

Near perfect, much higher then the Xbox 360 BC (ironic no?). Pretty much any title you have will work flawlessly or close to it, and they're constantly improving it.

There's barely any good games that haven't been added to the X360 BC list by now. :?

I think the only pretty good game that's still not on the list would be Riddick. Otherwise, they can leave all the ****ty ones off of it. Who cares about those anyways?

N'Gai predicts that the PS3 wil be in the $300s. I mean, Sony is not going to make a prediction like that and not at least take SOME measures to make it a possibility. They know their current scheme is not working, and they've seen the returns when lowering it a measly $100. I mean, 135% is insane. That means that a bunch of people are only holding back cause of price. It's not that..."OMG Xbox is so much better" but rather "PS3 is too expensive and the Xbox seems like it can do the same thing for a cheaper price" IMO

If they dipped it into the $300s they'd take such a financial hit it wouldn't even be funny. They'd probably fail to procure anything but meager profits even with the software sales added in. I'd probably say that is just wishful thinking until we get something to prove that.
