Wolverine Set for May 1, 2009

At least they're not rushing it out for summer '08. That's a good sign.

God, I told you Gambt would be in this. :down

Glad they're not rushing it. Looks like X-Men: Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: Origins: Magneto will both come out in Summer '09.

I was worried they would try and rush this out for 08 as well. I'm looking forward to the latest news.

At first I was kind of disappointed, but this really is good news. Wolverine won't be rushed into an early release, and we get both X-Men spinoffs in the same summer.

Great news...and there's more above. Hearing that Fox was pushing for a Summer 2008 release was idiotic. 2009 makes so much sense and they're about to start filming. This is not a rush job and they have talent all around, and Jackman is producing it. Finally someone that can push Fox back.

I'm glad that they aren't rushing this. If only they had taken the same approach with X-Men 3.

The article states that they're filming in New Orleans too? WTF? What does Gambit have to do with Logan's origin?

^Yeah, if Gambit ends up in this film, that'll be weird.

A shocking, but good move. At first I was a bit sad :( but at least they'll have a TON of time to work on the film and make it perfect. I wonder if MAGNETO is getting pushed forward, back, or if it'll keep it's 2009 date as well?

I'm glad to see they are using the X-Men Origins name that I had found via the web url *sneaky*! So I guess this pretty much confirms that Magneto will be X-Men Origins: Magneto, too.

I guess the tradition of a 3 year wait between X-films continues.

I never thought I would say this but this is looking sharp

Please, no Liev as William Stryker...I want Bryan Cox.

If filming starts in Jauary as planned i could see Magneto getting a winter '08 or a spring '09 release date.

The article also reveals our first bit of casting news.

I can see Liev Schreiber as a young Stryker though i'd prefer if Cox returned.

Indeed. I wanted them to introduce him in a team movie first.

I bet this is Lauren Shuler-Donner's doing. She's been saying for god knows how long how much she wants to have Gambit in a X-Men movie.

Didn't look at that way. You're right.

lol:woot:

Yeah if Fox doesn't make an X-Men related film every 3-4 years...they lose the rights. So you know damn well we'll be seeing some form of the X-Men on film every 3-4 years no matter what. Fox got the rights cheaply and it is the most lucrative franchise on film for them...ever.

Cool news. Like others have said, I'm glad they're not rushing this... I have a feeling Jackman is pretty protective of this property and wants to make sure it's done right. I'm also really looking forward to seeing what Hood has to offer.

Happily surprised to see this news:yay:, It looks like Jackman is gonna do as i hoped and play the blocker role Willis played for Wiseman on DH4.

Schrieber as a young Striker is a great choice IMO

Where does the article talk about Gambit being in the film? Did I miss something?

EDIT: Oh wait nevermind. It's assumed Gambit will be in it because it says there will be new mutants. I do agree with whoever said he should have been introduced in a team movie.

While I like Liev, isn't he about three feet taller than Brian Cox? If I recall correctly, he's taller than Hugh is.

Oh well, not that it matters all that much.

Its both a shock and a great bit news that they arent rushing this, i am happy to wait another year if it means the movie wont be rushed.

Liev is a really good friend of Hugh - they both starred in KATE & LEOPOLD and Hugh was the host of the Tony Awards and was on stage with Billy Crystal when Billy announced Liev's name as winner for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for Glengarry Glen Ross in 2005. You could tell Hugh was so excited when Liev won - I can't wait to see them working together again. I bet Hugh had a big role in his possible casting.

He's a great actor, underrated.

I think they're the same height actually. Both of them are 6'3.

You mean Hugh and Liev? I always thought Liev was just a tad taller. He looked taller than Hugh in Kate and Leopold.

Anyway, I've liked everything I've seen him in, but you have to admit, Brian Cox is going to be a hard actor to follow. Mr. Cox.

Thanks i didn't know that. Can always count on narrows to fill us in on info like that on Jackman. :yay:

Aint It Cool News posted the following.

Apparently they're planning to shoot in Australia, New Zealand and New Orleans... Variety hypothesizes that this means GAMBIT - but that's not the case. The New Orleans scene is basically a Mutant Only club scene with a bunch of insignificant Muties.

Seems strange to go all the way to New Orleans to shoot a club scene when you're filming in Australia and New Zealand.

There was another site a while ago who reported that the latest draft included one of his favorite mutants. I assumed it was Gambit then, and now we get this.
