Wolverine Set for May 1, 2009

^ An X-Men film without Halle Berry???? They simply MUST allow her to cameo somehow! :p

The title is great, and in terms of marketing is even greater because they get to keep the X-MEN name in there.

I love the casting choice for Liev - I think he's a very underrated actor. I hope they recast Sabertooth, too...wasn't a big fan of Tyler Mane.

I wonder if this release year move was made for creative reasons, marketing/ competition reasons or because of the possible actor, director, and writers guild strikes in Hollywood. Maybe Fox is trying to save certain movies for the year when studios will really need it.

This is looking awesome so far, but only one thing bothers me. Is this set entirely in the past? My concern is that if Wolverine meets other spectacular mutants and even has a huge bash with Creed it'll then seem weird that in X1 he was so weirded out by everything like the code names (What's a Magneto? etc) and barley bursting a blood vessel over seeing creed again etc.
I hope it's done in dual time; parts of the movie take place in past and present (postx2/x3, I'm hoping for post x2) Either way, I'm not worried about this so far.

Wolverine's amnesia should explain a lot of that.

I know, which A-List female will they put on the marketing now!?

I read on another site that posted the story, a comment below said they do it so that the DVD's can be placed Alphabetically.

X-Men
X-Men 2 (United)
X-Men: The Last Stand
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Will the Magneto film be simply be called X-Men Origins? If so it will fit in before Wolverine. Does that mean Magneto will be released before Wolverine?

I mean Wolverine starts filming next month, and doesn't come out for around two years. Magneto starts filming January so it could be ready before Wolverine...who knows?

I like the title and I think and hope it will stick.

Ahem
Got all the release dates from IMDB :

May 1st WOlverine ( Fox)
May 2nd Iron Man ( Paramount)
May 9th Speed Racer ( WB)
May 16th Prince Caspian ( Disney)
May 22th Indiana Jones ( Paramount)

Seems studios never learn

Wolverine comes out the year after all those movies..

Eh, doesn't matter to me. Though I keep my DVDs generally in alphabetically order, movies in the same series always go in chronological order, regardless of where they would otherwise be placed if kept in alphabetical order. For instance, The Dark Knight will be kept in the B's right after "Batman Begins"

That's the way to do it.

Great news...and there's more above. Hearing that Fox was pushing for a Summer 2008 release was idiotic. 2009 makes so much sense and they're about to start filming. This is not a rush job and they have talent all around, and Jackman is producing it. Finally someone that can push Fox back.

Great news indeed. Wolverine will own the box office simply because everyone will see it as X4.

Wolverine's amnesia should explain a lot of that.

It would explain it all. Having Creed take an interest in Wolverine in X1 takes on more meaning. This is all fitting together nicely.

i like that they are attaching the x-men origins title to it. reminds me of chronicles of riddick (even though technically pitch black wasnt' refered to that until part 2 came out), but as long as when the magneto movie comes out and is called x-men origins: magneto, then it'll all work out and look fine

I know this has been said before but. N'AWLINS!? YES! REMY!!

So happy I could cry.

Go Liev too, loved him in the Scream series

Liev is a great and underrated actor but i would've preferred brian
Liev is actually a good friend of a few of the X-Cast
worked with Hugh and Famke in Kate and leopard and The Ten
and has been seem with them at events and i've seen pics of famke with Liev at his birthday etc. long before they worked together

I dont believe this.

First bit of news on this movie and already people are saying "OMFG GAMBITS IN TEH MOVIEZ!!!!!"

It was just like this with X3, I bet when we get news on Magneto the rumours will start circulating that Gambit will be in that movie too.

All it said was they're shooting in New Orleans, people jump to conclusions way too fast. Wolverines from Canada therefore they should be shooting the film in Canada by some peoples logic :whatever:

I know, I mean Pyro must be in it because they are filming in Australia.

:D

:D

Oh yes, and Heather Cameron/Lifeguard too, shes from Australia :wow:
And she's half shi'ar apparently....OMG WOLVERINE IN SPACE!!

IMDB are often wrong, i doubt the rest of the press reporting this are.

I just saw my mistake hunter :cmad: :cmad:
I was thinking that Wolverine was going to be released in 2008 as opposed to it's real release date if 2009.That's why i lised all those movies.

I'm glad that they aren't rushing this. If only they had taken the same approach with X-Men 3.

The article states that they're filming in New Orleans too? WTF? What does Gambit have to do with Logan's origin?
How do you know Gambits in it?

I know that this is way off topic but would Fox still hold the rights to other xmen used in their films?

Im only asking this because I would love to see characters like Cyclops for example go back to marvel, so they can do them right.

Wishful thinking I know :woot:

wait, wait... 2009??
When I read the news I always thought it was May 2008, not 2009!

I find it a bit late...

Then X4 for when? 2040? hahahaha.

Not, seriously, X4 is each day more far from today.

2009 is good, at least they're taking their time with this one. Id rather wait a while for a good movie than have things rushed resulting in a disappointment like X3

I hate the fact that it seems they take this movie more seriously than with X3.

Maybe they've changed the script, and New Orleans has replaced Las Vegas? I wouldn't mind that at all.
Interesting thought.
Here's two pictures of Hugh and Liev from KATE & LEOPOLD:
Thanks for the pics.

It's Variety's fault.:o
How do you know Gambits in it?
I'm just speculating.

I think it is wishfull thinking. For forseeable Fox has hold of the X-Men movie rights incl spinoffs.

Welcome to the hype btw.:yay:

Harry at AICN said this about Gambit:

Apparently they're planning to shoot in Australia, New Zealand and New Orleans... Variety hypothesizes that this means GAMBIT - but that's not the case. The New Orleans scene is basically a Mutant Only club scene with a bunch of insignificant Muties.
