WB Has Read Whedon's Wonder Woman Script
Source: Whedonesque
August 24, 2006

Joss Whedon has posted a little update on the Wonder Woman movie on the Whedonesque message boards:

And since I haven't posted (anything real) in some time let me bring y'all up to speed. The Brothers Warner HAVE read Wondy Gal, and are arranging a meeting to tell me that it is a perfect crystalline gem and I must not change a word, nay, not a syllable. I'm certain that's how it will go.

I thought he turned it in like 3 months ago.

Oh well, here's hoping for crystalline.

Whedon sucks

I hope this turns out well. A Wondy movie done right could be good stuff.

Ironically, Whedon bragging that much about his script gives me much hope. :o

If the WB does like it so much that it is or is close to the final version, then I hope it's faithful. Whedon wanting to make up his own villain, no flight, no "star spangled panties," etc. have me concerned. I'm hoping Whedon can do a good job, but I worry every time I hear of some "name" director trying to put his own spin on a comic character.

You would think after Superman Returns they would have learned their lesson. But if this Wonder Woman is nothing but Whedons version. It is an almost guarantee it will turn out like Superman Returns

Every director who's ever made any movie has put their own "spin" on it (okay, maybe not Rodriguez with Sin City:o). That's what director's do, really.

Think about how much Singer deviated from the X-Men mythos in making his movies, or even Raimi with Spider-Man, or even Nolan with Batman. It's really not all that surprising Whedon too would have his own little interpretations and adjustments to make.

The question is if Whedon will go too far with it, and if he'll remain true to the spirit of Wonder Woman. So far, without a script, without a trailer, without really anything to go on besides a few random quotes, I really can't make any judgement on it yet. Personally, at least.

There is a world of a difference, though, between Christopher Nolan's Batman, or Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, or even Bryan Singer's X-Men and say, Pitof's Catwoman, Rob Smigel's Green Lantern, or Brett Leonard's Man-Thing.

It's only appropriate when people here hear of Whedon's changes to the Wonder Woman mythos to worry that it results in one of the former and not one of the latter.

what we know is that the script has been bouncing back and forth between him and the producers for moths. it think tis only now that the studio has read the script and is calling for a meeting.

well anyway, at least we're one step forward now. of course it can so easily take 2 steps backward :(.

hoping indeed. maybe they should get Hughes as insurance :o

i hope you knew he was being sarcastic ;)

Joss Whedon isn't a bad writer but I think he's overrated. I laugh everytime I see someone with a "Whedon is my master" shirt! Doesn't seem like too many people even care about this project, what would it take for it to get it's own section on the boards? A casting decision for WW mabey? As far as Whedon creating a new villian is concered it doesn't bother me, her current villians suck. The new book thats out now is pretty cool so far but I wouldn't be buying it if it weren't for the art.

so when can they release this movie? 2008? If so, when esp if Batman is back in the same year?

Sometimes they can put too much of their own spin on it, and they spin that **** right out of a profit.

well..once again he doesn't say much and just rambles about non-sense and tries to be funny. Anyhow....I'm glad the script is in and I hope Silver and WB like it. I hope his film is a solid origin tale, that has an epic feel to it with good action. No cheesy stuff......and no invisible jet...unless there is plausible realistic way to introduce it.

interesting.. we'll see what happens.. i'm vaguely disappointed that there will apparently be no WW villains, but hopefully this will be a new cool villain that will end up in comics, like Harley Quin..

Finally, i thought Whendon was going to give up on this project......like Kevin Smith did on Green Hornet.....

im glad the more DC films, the better...

It usually takes a year to film and post produce a pic. If they announce a cast and start filming within the next two months they could make a X-mas 2007 release.
