World End

Hmmmm...Civilization in general probably has about 120 years left..

The biggest problem this generation will have to overcome is the slow but steady diminishment of our planet's natural resources. The expeditious growth of the human population is simply too much for this planet to sustain. I'm not sure of the exact statistic, but it's been calculated that hundreds of acres of farmland is required to meet the dietary needs of one American for one year. Stephen Hawking recently stated that in order for the human race to survive we would have to colonize the moon and Mars because of this impending resource crisis. The Carrying Capacity Theory in biology states that the earth can only sustain a human population of 10 billion. We are currently at 7 billion. The theory states that once we reach 10 billion, the natural resources of the planet will not be enough to sustain a comfortable life style for all the world's people. The theory also goes on to predict that in that scenario, many nations would go to war to preserve what resources it can. An interesting theory floating around suggests that in fact what the United States has been doing in the Middle East, invading and occupying Afghanistan and Iraq, is in fact a military attempt to acquire their natural resources under the facade of national security, in anticipation of the resource crisis. The Carrying Capacity Theory also predicts rampant famine and disease, especially in the impoverished parts of the world. With nuclear-armed nations at war, with a pandemic of disease and famine, a resource crisis is the accelerator and agitator of many other problems that could cause strife powerful enough to end human civilization.

This certainly appears to present a bleak future for the planet and our civilization. However, we have the opportunity now to prevent this potential crisis and create an alternative future for our planet. The word is being spread, especially in regards to global warming, a problem inexorably linked to the thinning of natural resources. We need to take complete advantage of that opportunity.

I see the human race colonizing other planets before the earth is unihabitable. If their where Aliens they would think of us like galactus from FF. Going to other planets using up the resources then leaving it for dead.

I don't think it'll ever 'end' as such. Change beyond all recognition isn't really an end, is it? Its just a change.

I would say, about 10 to 20 000 years.

it'll end with a whimper.

T.S. Eliot. Nice.

That being said, it's really hard to speculate, mankind itself can take a number of paths, and it all involves so many variables that it's impossible to even think about probabilities. I mean, in 5 billion years the sun will go red giant and swallow the earth, but that doesn't necessarily mean the end of mankind... nor is it even necessary that it will happen... if mankind really were to continue to exist for billions of years it's possible that they will have come up with a way to stop the sun from turning into a red giant by then.

If mankind ends before then, it'll probably have to start with something big, like cataclysmic climate change, or nuclear war, but that will severely decimate the population... there will still be humans. The ones that remained would be very vulnerable, without the protection of civilization as we know it, and living in a different kind of world... drought, disease, etc would take it's toll. What would follow would be slow, slow extinction of the remaining population.

So yeah, I guess.... with a whimper. ;)

Earth ends in 2077, however humanity will live on for many years to come among the stars.

There's the depletion of the ozone, the disappearance of species, build-up of toxins in our environment, global warming.

There's the possiblity of global catastrophe: nuclear war, epidemics, giant comets striking the earth.

From an Apocalyptic perspective, I'm working on a theory right now that compares The Wizard Of Oz to Chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation. If my theory is correct, then Judy Garland will soon be reincarnated; this reincarnation of Miss Garland will be the mother of antichrist.

:oldrazz: :whatever: :woot: :csad: :hyper: :wow:

It would be nice to believe that humanity could move to the stars... unfortunatly since the space programs of various countries aren't really making any attempts to send people to the moon or other places for more than a few months I don't think that will happen anytime soon. In the meanwhile we are already doing such a fantastic job of destroying our planet that the Doomsday clock has moved two minutes closer to midnight.
