"WTF?!" Moments of 'Spider-Man 3'

I'm confused to way Venom even needed Sandmans help in the first place.
He didn't need Sandman's help... the studio needed Venom to need Sandman's help so they can rip-off fans paying to see Venom in action only to see him sitting in the shadows for more than half of that god-awful "climatic" final-battle. And it didn't help worth-it nothing that they seemed to keep Venom's "face" off of the screen for the majority of the time he was actually on-screen.

The thing that disappointed me the most was Venom. Venom should of been something Sam should of loved to play with, with the whole background with The Evil Dead flicks. I wished he would of had horror elements to it, some creepy stuff. Spider-Man 4 better redeem itself and Spider-Man better be more confident and witty.

Yeah, I hear you. I honestly think that Sam could've made a beter movie if he didn't have the studio and Avi Arad on his back. If he had put some thought into having Venom one day become a villain, like you said, he could've had something really creepy, he could've been given more time to understand the character. Mainly, Sam was looking to make Venom as good as he could with all of the frustration and weight on his shoulders. That's why it's nice knowing that they're giving him another chance, but I hope that this time around, they don't force-feed him a whole bunch of crap that he had to somehow mold into a full-length movie. I think he did a good job with the movie knowing all that he went through, however, it's still a very poor movie in general, but nothing that he did could be considered bad, nor the entire cast. It was just the studio wanting to cram all of this crap into it.

See, that's such a load of crap. Every director of every movie is given material they have to stick to. They are given mulitple things they have to bring together. Whether it was having to use the Joker and Two-Face, or having to use Robbie and J J J, they are forced to make these things work all the time. Just because he was forced to use Venom, is no excuse for the fact he screwed it up.

I kinda agree with that. Although Raimi didn't really understand the character,he was given plenty of time to do his research. Plus,I'm sure there were plenty of other people who knew Venom ALOT better than Raimi. Why didn't any of them stand up and say,"Um...Sam,Venom wouldn't do that," or "This is how this should go?"
Venom is also a very scary looking and creepy character. I wish there would've been more of a "horror" atmosphere and attitude towards not only Venom, but the film too(I think that's one of the reasons the Dark Knight worked so well with the Joker). Venom, along with the Joker, are two comic book villains that spring to mind when I think of characters that could be put in a horror film and fit in perfectly. Both should be taken very seriously and made to be very creepy(Todd Mcfarlene hit the nail on the head when commenting about the solo Venom film).
And it's like I said before,I don't believe Venom was "forced" onto Raimi at all. Arad knew the popularity of the character and told Sam that it would be a good idea to put him in. I don't think Arad went up to Raimi and said,"You either put Venom in this movie or I'll fire you and burn down your house!" lol

Again, I hear you, man. But, again... I can't exactly blame him for the outcome. In the audio commentary, Sam says Alvin Sargent was responsible for the screenwriting process on Venom, now I wasn't there when they were writing the script, nor have I even read the script in my life. All that I know is that they were pushing for too many backstories, too many characters, etc, that it made the movie such a mess that it was a miracle to have seen some elements that actually worked. And also, although I can see Raimi's cheesiness shine through some of the scenes in 'Spider-Man 3', Venom wasn't one that had the "Raimi-Trademark" plastered all-over him, in my opinion.

Unless Fox and Marvel forced him into making Venom into a loser Riami deserves the responsibility for executing a lousy version. He could have made him more vicious, complex, intimidating Venom and a larger part of the film, like giving him the role Harry had in forcing MJ to break up with Peter, but he didn't.

Agreed.

I wonder...do you think the reason Raimi messed up the character of Venom is because he just didn't get or understand the character,he was under too much pressure and didn't have the time needed to focus on Venom or a little of both?

I think he didn't get the character and didn't want to. He decided what he wanted to do with the character. He said he wanted him to be a doppleganger. And didn't have time? How long does it take to read a couple of comic books? An hour?

Well,I mean that he had so much other stuff to shoot and focus on. As everyone knows, the film was packed.

My "WTF??" moment was when Peter started dancing in the streets .....ruined the movie for me

Which....I dont think any one liked that part, but if you do Sorry if I offended you

Don't be, that whole montage was garbage, and they knew it. Just further added more unnessisary crap to the film that's already two-and-a-half hours over-filled.

Wow, those are terrible examples.

Any time a director is forced to do something, the end result is subpar.

^ I didn't mind it
atleast not in a "it ruined the movie for me" kinda way

it was mildly amussing
I found it less annoying then the "rain drops..." scene in 2

I could see that being how the Peter Parker (as established in the movies) acting when drunk or something lol

I'd say the only real "WTF"(not that i'd call it that) moment, that i had about his behavior or looking, as dark Peter, was when he actually stop looked in the mirror, and pushed his hair down

"Less annoying"?!... That's what made the "Raindrops" scene so fun, the film was literally having a moment for itself in a sense by teasing the fans. However, 'Spider-Man 3' was just trying to modify that... But this time, they were literally laughing behind our backs: "Man, we screwed them @#$holes over, big-time!"

Maybe both.

In the commentary of 3 Riami didn't really seem that into the character. He seemed more interested in seeing what Topher did then Venom itself though it's been ages since I saw it.

I know he said that he liked and appreciated Venom by the end of it all thanks to Topher and the writers bringing the character to life. I've also heard rumors that Raimi liked,or didn't mind Venom, even before he started filming but told everyone that he hated the character so no one would think he would ever be in Spidey 3(untill Kirsten spilled the beans, that is). I don't think I would buy that, however. But I do think that Raimi does finally appreciate Venom now and I'd like to think that if he could go back and redo Spider-man 3 that Venom/Eddie Brock would've had more screen time and development. Of course, maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.:woot:

wtf moments

monster sandman at the end...... BOO
would've been cool to see sandy fight spidey and harry at their level at least

no real ''classic'' spidey fights, all tremendously short

avi arad screwing the venom fans over
-should have trusted rami's call

no norman osbourne

venom being blown to bits

two face rip off

dancing in the kitchen while making an omlete

how about the harry's crash and burn in the alley way fight
a little too much cgi there

the dance scene in the club

That's good if you're right. It's just a little to late. :(

I guess, since I wasn't bothered by it, as much, I wasn't one of those "@#$holes" who got "Screwed" by it

Here's what Raimi said:

I had never read Venom in the comic books, since they came after my time. Because of that, I didn't have a natural inclination toward him. And when I read those comics, at [producer] Avi Arad's urging, I didn't understand where Venom's humanity was. I know that kids think he looks cool, and they think he's a good villain for Spider-Man. I actually didn't. What was it about Peter's own makeup that this villain represented some weaker or darker side to? Just looking like a dark version of him is not enough for me. The more I read [Venom stories], the less interested I became. But then Avi said, ''Look, you've got to be less selfish. You've got to learn what it is these kids love about Venom.'' So I tried to open my mind up. Then Alvin developed a character that I did understand, and did appreciate.
