X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

I'm sure you have valid reasons to dislike Krakoa or simply want the show taking different creative paths.

I loved it tho. Still reading it, but loving it. It was such a different take, high sci-fi in some aspects even. I felt it gave a breath of fresh air seeing mutants building their own society.
Could be misremembering but I'm pretty sure Sithborg likes the Krakoa era.

I think they're just saying don't write the show down a path (i.e. extinction event after extinction event) where Krakoa is even necessary.

I know nothing about how Krakoa ends. Not sure if it ends badly or not. That's why I said "or simply want a different path".

I understand the complaints, I've seen it before. But I still think Krakoa is worth visiting.

Yes, I loved Krakoa. But you have to understand why HOX/POX hit as hard as it did with the fanbase. Genosha and E for Extinction alone don't lead to the need for Krakoa. Genosha, M-day, the various massacres lead up to the Messiah trilogy, terragenisis, m-pox, till finally, X-men Dissassembled and the mutant vaccine. Hit, after hit, after hit. Just a continuous stream of hits to the mutants. Without that nearly 2 decades of just trauma porn, Krakoa was an actual new direction for the X books.

97 doesn't need to go down that path. And frankly, how it ended was bull****.

All of that just because of some damn film rights.

But then again, that's why the X-Men resonate with me. Mutants taking hit after hit is just like minorities in America taking hit after hit.

I remember you criticizing this before. Like I said, I'm sure you have valid reasons.

I still want Krakoa. It's awesome.

When it comes to the M-Day, regardless of personal preference, it's happening. I think it's more likely for us to see Jean, Scott and Logan having an onscreen threesome than them not adapting this. As soon as Wanda shows up, she's gonna do it. That's my prediction at least.

All around the world, sadly.

Actually, a fair bit was from before the MCU started getting steam. House of M was in 2005. But the constant "near extinction" status quo was very tiring.

I mean, my reasons are that I got back into comics right after M Day, and have been reading pretty steadily since. Now, I'm not saying it was all bad. But HOX/POX really shined a light on how creatively stagnant that era was. They did E For Extinction. Fine, if that is all they have planned. M-Day is an added in is unnecessary.

By the way, I hope Krakoa has Primal's color palette.

God, I hated the Krakoan era from the comics. I hope Marvel Studios/Animation don't adapt that era, ever.

It feels like they are going to do Apocalypse returning, Gambit resurrected as a Horseman, and maybe some variation of Onslaught next. Like possibly mixing elements of The Twelve, The Adventures of Cyclops and Jean Grey, Onslaught, and possibly Rise of Apocalypse. Jean and Cyclops basically got time-slipped to The Adventures of Cyclops and Jean Grey era. The other X-Men got sent to the Rise of Apocalypse era. Seems like the X-Men will sort of replace Fantastic Four's role in that story.

I'm most excited about the intro especially if the likes of Iceman, Angel, Psylocke, Colossus, Shadowcat, Emma get included.

Though the returning cast members are already huge in quantity, so I don't know how its possible to add more in the regular roster of 12 mutants.

While it doesnt mean automatic downgrade in quality since we havent seen anything....Chauncey....S3 of What If is boring as hell. Better have brought your A-game for S2 of this show.

That was my fear.

But I don't have high hopes for S02. And it' regardless of Chauncey's talent. They are rewriting the entire season not for creative reasons. Not to improve the story or anything, but because of all DeMayo drama. So the changes do not seem to be driven by creative reasons.

I have better hope for S03.

I was looking at the writing credits and see that at least "Bright Eyes", probably my second favorite episode, was not written by DeMayo.

I hope they are keeping the other writers in a, hopefully, very colaborative writing room.

Honestly, we might get even better writing from those other writers without an obviously toxic person in the room contributing to a toxic work environment. At least that is the hope.

If this boring ass last season of What If is supposed to instill any confidence in me that this Chauncey guy will do a good job taking over the 97 writer's room, then it failed miserably.

Alas, we will always have season 1.

I would feel more confident if one of S01 writers got the showrunner job for S02 and 03.

X-Men should get a very talented writer to lead the story, and preferably someone who deeply loves those characters.

I don't remember What if having an amazing, passionate take on any character.

It seems clear Marvel had a lot to dictate on What If, like which characters they could and could not use. That does not justify the meh quality, but I'm affraid Marvel this time wanted a more obedient cooperative writer, and get a less political take on the X-Men, taking also in consideration the 'no message' approach that they mentioned before.

The Loki showrunner said the writers were fighting to get the MCU X-Men writing job because the X-Men had some of Marvel's best characters. I find hard to believe there wasn't an army of writers dying to get showrunner job for Emmy nominated '97. And the guy from What If and Love & Thunder was the best choice?

:hmm:

Agreed, I don't give a s*** what else Demayo has to say
And his lawyers should probably be warning him against poking the Disney bear

People act like he was the be-all and end-all of X-Men writing, but all he did was give us a tribute band Medley of "X-Men's Greatest Hits". It was really no harder hitting politically than some episodes of the original show

Now, "What If" didn't fill me with confidence, but I think there's plenty of other writers who can do just a good job without creating a horrible environment for their co-workers

He’s trying too hard and I’m beyond sick of him.

“Whatever that means.”

Umm it means that voice is not that of a woman who mostly grew up in Africa. And it’s possible they wanted that change due to the Chadwick/the Black Panther cast objecting to doing British accents instead of African accents. I would’ve loved a recast for her as I’ve never been a fan of Storm sounding like an old lady.

I take what DeMayo has to say with a grin of salt, but I don't see the point of doing X-Men 97, a continuation of X-Men The Animated Series, and recasting Storm. That is a bit of an over-correction for what was a really stupid idea (having Black Panther, a man who is from a nation that was never colonized, talk with a British accent), one that Chadwick rightfully pushed back on. And I think pushing back on recasting Storm was equally right.
