X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

Let’s face it, we enjoy it because of nostalgia. I love it, but when I asked my nephews they said it’s silly and the animation looks old fashioned
I agree but I think it still has the morality baked in. Nostalgia brought me back to the show, but I wouldn't keep watching if they strayed from the formula that hooked me in the first place. I can understand kids not getting into it since they had years already of live action superheroes. Also it is meant to look like the old show so old fashioned is a correct observation.

I hope 97 shows to games creative teams how awesome the X-Men are, outside Wolverine.
We know from that infamous leak that X-Men games are currently in development.

Cyclops is so cool in this, I don't think I've ever liked him this much. They also make it abundantly clear that his optic blast is a physical force, not a heat ray. They've been quite inventive with that just in two episodes and I love it. That superhero landing to end all superhero landings :wow:
Great to see and maybe the films can get inventive too after seeing this. I love the hyper-accurate, ultra-low-power controlled blasts like the one in X1 where he used it to remove Toad’s gunk from Jean’s face. Would also like to see an all out mountain-levelling blast when it’s really called for. Hopefully the films can mix it up like we saw here with some imaginative choreography.

Can’t believe this has gone so well. I certainly wouldn’t have called it given what I thought Marvel’s attitude to animation was. The good times are back for now. :cwink:

**** em. It's not for them.

I'm honestly surprised how close they stayed to the original show.

Haha. To be fair I would have liked if this generation’s kids would have also got into it. That would only bode well for the chances of future X-Men projects.

I don't expect this to go on any longer than another season considering half the cast already has one foot in the grave and they've already fired the creator. 10 episodes that cater to me specifically Is a breath of fresh air. The X-Men will hit the MCU proper in due time so they can have that.

Ya know, I've seen Cyclops level mountains, and hit tiny targets with pinpoint accuracy, but none of it moved the dial for me towards liking him more (okay, maybe the Sentinel blast from Whedon's Astonshing run)

But seeing him skate himself around and reposition using the blasts in the first episode made me giggle uncontrollably

Yeah, surprisingly good choreography from an animated show for a character who I can only describe as stiff in most previous incarnations. Feels like they finally let the handbrake off on Cyclops (and floored it :funny: )

Dodd's original Wolverine is iconic, but it also isn't detrimental for Logan to sound a little older and weathered. Dude is over 100 years old after all. He had his moments when he captured that old sound as well.

I thought that the entire returning group was great but Alison Sealy-Smith was the stand-out. She sounded like she stepped out of a time machine direct from the 90's. It's interesting that they brought in original Cable actor Lawrence Bayne to voice X-Cutioner. I was also surprised to hear a different voice actor portraying Gambit. Chris Potter is apparently going to be in the show, but he's going to be Nathan Summers/Cable. Original Jean Grey Catherine Disher was given a new role as Val Cooper.

Why are they playing different characters instead? Why would the original Jean now be recast as a different character if she's still around and available? Same for Cable and Gambit.

Jennifer Hale is both Black Cat and Ms Marvel/ Carol Danvers from previous Marvel cartoons. I do like her voice acting.

As long as you’re having a good time with it dude, enjoy.

Hopefully the films get the kids in as big fans so X-Men can continue to get a lot of love in the years that follow.

Hopefully with what seems like a very positive reception this gets great word of mouth and can maintain good viewing numbers throughout its run. I’d love if more people get excited about animated shows.

Spin-Offs! Spin-Offs! Spin-Offs! Spin-Offs! Spin-Offs!...

So why is Bishop still stuck in the past? Also, where is Shard? She went back to the 1990s with the other X-Men in Season 4.

If her time band pulled her back, shouldn't it have done the same to Bishop? When she made her time jump to go to the 1990s, she didn't have a time band either.

Also, where did Bishop go after defeating Apocalypse?

I am curious if there will be team changes for season 2 / 3.

I am not a fan of Magneto/Morph, and I would be very much delighted if we are seeing Iceman, Nightcrawler, Kitty, Angel, Colossus or Psylocke in that opening intro.

I always wonder what would their intro shot would look like. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they make one for Nightcrawler when he makes an appearance in season one.

I think they'll change the intro for every episode.

I would like to see an age of apocalypse arc at some point. Seeing Magneto and Rogue just instantly brought up AOA. It was one of my favorite events from the comics back then. Had some really good crossover characters too.

As long as they don't dump Gambit or try to turn him into a Horseman again, they can do what they want. :)

Nightcrawler is coming back this season. Iceman showed up during the previous show so there's a good chance he could show up again. Same with Colossus, who they basically gave an open invitation to join the team, but he wasn't ready yet.
