X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

Its weird. I am constantly seeing "Disney won't let X-Men be X-Men, they won't be true to the themes, etc"... but... they are the ones who produced X-Men 97 in the first place. This is arguably the darkest and most adult X-Men cartoon TV series that we have ever gotten, and it was produced by Disney and Marvel. So if they really had problems with all the themes, why didn't they cut them from the first season?
Weird is not how I would describe it.

My queerness is one of the main reasons I identify and love the X-Men so much. It's something very serious to me. And '97 approach to it completely surprised me, shocked me. I didn't expect it. I would describe it more as something "out of the norm" within what Disney usually does.

After all these controversies and allegations, and here I'm not just talking about what DeMayo says but allegations from other creators, what do you think it's more likely: to Disney continue this progressive, political approach, or go back to what they usually do, considering how rare something like 97 is among the things they do?

I'd describe it more as concerning.

He's been using these allegations to defend himself, that's the issue. So people will have a hard time believing in him, which ironically it's what he said Disney wanted.

Standing on the victims side and standing on Disney side are two very different things in my eyes. And I feel it's entirely possible both sides are rotten. Allegations of Disney being homophobic I take it more with a shocked Pikachu face than a grain of salt. But DeMayo is not helping.

If I'm not mistaken they said at one point they wanted to release new seasons with less than a year interval, which means early 2025 for season 2. So yeah, it's very likely they have been tossing a lot of stuff specially to take DeMayo's writing credits.

Then wouldn't this mean for Season 3 and not Season 2?

If the 2026 rumor is real, then yes, they are scrapping a **** ton. Even small rewrites after the voice overs have been completed is a ****ton of work. And if they are, as an older rumor stated, rewriting enough to be able to remove DeMayo from the credits? Yeah, late 2026.

Makes no sense to me when we already saw completed footage from Season 2 at D23. I need more conclusive evidence than a report from NEXUS POINT NEWS.

Yes, but was this pre-Iger's return where he wants to combat the woke politics at Disney. :o

Umm....

Sorry but this news report is hardly confirmation of a 2026 release date.

Umm....

Aaaand?

Iger returned to Disney in 2022, so he had plenty of time to demand retakes and changes to X-Men 97 if he really wanted to.
THats not how animation works. They were already starting development on S2 in 2022. That's A LOT of money to throw away and if they are doing S2 they are literally having to throw away $15-20+million dollars redoing it.

If the goal is to remove DeMayo's credit, then they have to change a lot. I know for Superman II to get Richard Lester the credit and not Richard Donner, he had to have shot well over half the released movie. So at minimum, they have to redo over 50% to take his name off.

If that's not how animation works if they already have finished animation for Season 2 who are they scrapping everything that came before and changing it up for Season 2?

Im talking about s1. I doubt they would've spent 10+millions to de-gay the show back then.

You really think they are going spend that much money to toss out the work they've already done and shown for Season 2 to "de-gay" the show? When "that's not how animation works"?

As i said - i wasn't talking about s2.

S2 isn't about 'de-gaying' the show as we know it. It's to ensure someone doesn't get any credit in said show.

The shows a hit now, it wasn't while in development so they could very well bet on throwing away millions to re-do it. I don't want a complete rewrite and still waiting on something more official

If this isn't how animation works, then they aren't going to scrap what's already finished and completed for Season 2. And based on what was shown, a significant amount of Season 2 has already been animated.

This is like the nonsense that Masters of the Universe Revelation somehow rewrote the whole second half of the season in less than three months due to the backlash of the first half, and people claiming they removed Teela's queer relationship with Andra to focus more on Teela and Adam instead.

The key is that they finished voice recording. Which tends to be just before they lock in the stuff to be animated. At that point, "rewriting" throws the whole process off. So yeah, depending on when they decided to rewrite (likely when he was fired), yeah, there is stuff animated. We will see when season 2 actually releases just how extensive things are.

I'm going to start needing royalties for everytime "this isnt how animation works" is used.

We're getting to levels of "Warner Bros. is going to reshoot The Flash without Ezra Miller" here.

I wonder if they'll tone down Morph and their love for Wolverine...

You mean erasing it? :whoops:

Morph's queerness was already toned down a lot on season 1. Toning down more is basically erasing it.

I had high hopes for these 2:

But a brief kiss in the forehead, like Wakanda Forever, might be all we get... if we're lucky.

Not sure how it was toned down in Season 1 when they literally tell Wolverine that they love him in the finale.

Right? I mean Aneka kissed Ayo's forehead for godsake, Rogue used "them" once to refer to Morph... I mean, what else these queer people want, am I right? :o

So someone from across the interwebs said
Just watched an interview with Lenore Zann, and she said that she was at the studio a week ago and recorded lines for ep s02e09 (the finale). So they've probably already done the re-writes, otherwise they wouldn't call the VAs up to record.

Going by YJ production back in the day....they concluded S3 voice recording in Apr 2018 and S3 was released Jan 2019
