Okay, so first things first: read my X-Men: The Last Stand script, as it's a prerequisite for this one. link

So, a few caveats: This is a rough draft. The basic plot is there, but it's very much a work in progress, and all of your feedback is appreciated. Also, it's as yet untitled as far as a subtitle. Any ideas are welcome. And one last thing, there are camera directions. Obviously, if this were to be sold, the directions would be omitted. But it's not, and I think it helps the imagery where I've used it.

I think that about covers it, so read that, then read this, and I hope you enjoy.


EXT. TIBETAN MONASTERY – DAY

The day is cloudy, and the snow heavy. A monastery sits on a hill, isolated, tall and Gothic in nature. The camera pans around, and then zooms in to the highest room of the tallest tower.

INT. MONASTERY

In a small, tall room at the peak of the monastery, KURT WAGNER, sometimes better known as NIGHTCRAWLER, hangs upside down, meditating with a partner, who sits on the floor cross-legged. She wears a dark brown robe, hood obscuring her face.

KURT
That will do for now.

Kurt BAMFs down to the floor. His partner removes her hood, revealing striking green eyes and red hair. JEAN GREY.

KURT
It is slow. But you will heal.

He touches Jean’s shoulder as he exits. Jean gets up and looks out the window at the coming blizzard, then puts her hood back over her head.

The camera zooms out the window and through the blizzard. The OPENING CREDITS feature the anatomy of several snowflakes, then zoom in to a temple hidden in the depths of the mountains. As the sequence ends, the doors to the temple slam shut, large, ancient stone.

EXT. FRENCH HIGHWAY – DAY

A motorcycle zooms down the mountainside highway, carrying two mutants, GAMBIT and ROGUE. They yell to each other over the roar of the bike.

ROGUE
Where’re we goin’ next, Remy?

GAMBIT
That, chére, is entirely up to you.

ROGUE
I wanna see Marseilles.

GAMBIT
Done an’ done.

EXT. X-MANSION - DAY

The mansion is surprisingly active, considering recent events in the X-Men’s lives.

INT. SCOTT’S OFFICE

SCOTT SUMMERS, the X-Man CYCLOPS, sits at his new desk. Around him are HENRY MCCOY, or BEAST, ORORO MUNROE, or STORM, and EMMA FROST, still lacking a moniker.

SCOTT
We heard from Logan yet?

ORORO
No word.

HENRY
I’m sure he’s fine.

EMMA
A man like him can certainly take care of himself.

Scott sighs.

SCOTT
And how about Kurt?

HENRY
Just this morning. He says Jean is coming along. But it’ll be slow going.

EMMA
Well, of course. I can’t imagine what she must be going through. Between…

She trails off.

EMMA
Well, no one here needs reminding, I’m sure.

HENRY
Hardly.

SCOTT
Okay…well, I guess it’s assembly time, then. Shall we?

They exit the office together.

INT. AUDITORIUM

The X-Men take the stage, as all of the students file in and take their seats. Scott takes the podium, as the others sit behind him.

SCOTT
All right, everyone, let’s…let’s get started.

He looks briefly back toward the X-Men, then forward to the students.

SCOTT
Welcome back. We hope you’ve enjoyed your break. As you know, a lot’s happened over the past few months, and things are different here now. Professor Xavier is gone, but we want all of you to know that doesn’t mean this school, or his philosophy, have died along with him. There are a lot more of you here now, and we’re doing our best to make the transition as easy as possible for Miss Frost’s students. Our staff is a bit on the short side right now, but hopefully we’ll acquire some new teachers soon…and get some old ones back.

He pauses for a second.

SCOTT
Emma, would you like to say something?

Emma gets up and replaces Scott.

EMMA
Hello. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Emma Grace Frost, and you may refer to me as Miss Frost. Before you lie difficult times. In the wake of the cure, the mutant community faces more persecution than ever. Magneto did a number on San Francisco, and that has not gone unremarked by the general public. Nonetheless, it is important that we keep a positive image of our school, and I do say our because the students of Xavier’s have so graciously welcomed me into the fold.

She turns to Ororo.

EMMA
Ororo?

Ororo takes the podium.

ORORO
In line with what Mr. Summers and Miss Frost have said, it’s important for you to know that we have made a decision, a risky one, we know. But also an important one. This semester, the true purpose of this institute will be made public knowledge. We will be recognized as an institution for mutant students by the United States, thanks to Dr. McCoy’s influence with the President. Now. This is a place of learning. Not just about your powers, but about the world. We will demand utmost respect for your teachers and fellow students, mutant and human alike. The curriculum of this school will enforce a development of respect for baseline humans, in addition to basic education and development of your powers. So please keep that in mind.

Ororo sits down, and Scott takes the podium again.

SCOTT
So that wraps up the assembly. One last thing, I’d like to point out that Bobby Drake has just become a student liaison to the staff, so any concerns you’d like us to know about should go through him. New students wait outside, Bobby and Kitty will show you to your rooms.

The students all leave. Bobby goes to sort them out, and the senior staff leaves stage left.

INT. NEWS STUDIO

A REPORTER sits at a news desk. The camera moves away, eventually revealing a TELEVISION SCREEN inside a HOME, where a family of HUMANS watches.

REPORTER
And the big story tonight, Charles Xavier’s Institute for Higher Learning, beginning it’s first semester without its founder, has recently become a public institution for mutant students.

INT. ANOTHER HOME

In another home, ANOTHER REPORTER is covering the same story.

REPORTER #2
The current heads of the school, Scott Summers and Ororo Munroe, have admitted to being members of the mutant team known as the X-Men, who have been placed at the root of the mass epidemic which struck last year, and who more recently were pinpointed as part of the faction of mutants on Alcatraz just this year.

INT. YET ANOTHER HOME

Finally, on this television set, the PRESIDENT addresses the nation.

PRESIDENT
These people are inherently good people, and their school is a good thing. The X-Men have done more than many of you know in the best interests of this country, and I stand by them and this institution one hundred percent.

The television is flicked off. The camera pans around to find BOLIVAR TRASK at his desk. The seal on the floor indicates that he is the chief of Homeland Security. A buzzer rings.

TRASK
Yes, Alicia?

ALICIA
Mr. Shaw, here to see you.

TRASK
Send him in.

SEBASTIAN SHAW, a middle-aged man with brown hair and sideburns, enters, dressed tastefully in a business suit, but with just a hint of the “old world” in his stance.

SHAW
Bolivar.

TRASK
Thanks for coming, Sebastian. Have a seat.

Shaw sits across from Trask.

SHAW
The timing couldn’t have been worse.

TRASK
Truer words, Sebastian. But it’s too late now. So the funding has gone through?

SHAW
Shaw Industries and the Hellfire Club are thrilled to support you. We took a bit of damage after Stryker’s gang folded, but we’re on the upswing again.

TRASK
Good to know. Now, I think the earlier modifications we discussed have become unnecessary, but I think Stryker’s basic prototype works rather well. How quickly can your company begin production?

SHAW
We’ve secured the grounds already, and now we just need time. I’d say the first wave can be ready by the end of the month. In fact, I’ll be onsite by nightfall. After that, it’s just a matter of making sure our mole’s in place.

TRASK
Excellent. Good luck, Mr. Shaw.

SHAW
And to you, Mr. Trask.

They shake hands, and Shaw leaves.

Anyways, I like yours too. :woot: But I haven't read your X3 so I'm kinda confused about some things. I guess I'll read that now...
 
That's a very promising beginning Boba.

You mentioned the cure from TLS was going to be permanent here, obviously that means Magneto, Mystique and Jean are out as active mutants. I'm curious to see where you will take the story.

I don't know how you do that screenplay format, I've never been able to wrap my head around it well. I find it kinda weird that we have very similar ideas; Kurt acting as spiritual guide to Jean after TLS, a connection between Shaw and Trask, I guess it's good though to know others might want to see similar things to what you're coming up with. Keep it coming.

Mu'ad - the Kurt and Jean in Tibet thing came to me out of nowhere while I was walking around campus one day; more specifically, the image of the monastery on the hill in the snow (I'm not even sure if there IS snow in Tibet, but whatever). It's the first thing I thought of for this screenplay, and seemed like a great way to reintroduce Kurt. Glad to see someone else agrees.

INT. MONASTERY

Jean enters the meditation room alone. She sits in silence until Kurt joins her.

KURT
Jean? What is troubling you?

JEAN
I can’t do this, Kurt.

KURT
Of course you can. You are strong, Jean.

JEAN
No, Kurt. I’m…it’s like I’m blind, deaf, dumb—totally removed from the world. There’s just this…void inside of me. And this isolation isn’t helping.

KURT
This isolation is what you need. You need to find your faith, Jean. You have to find yourself.

Jean looks out the window at the blizzard.

JEAN
I know. You make it sound so easy.

Kurt stands beside her.

KURT
I came here…after you died. When you and Ororo came for me in Boston…that night changed my entire life. I needed a new perspective, and here…here they are happy to have me. I’ve been here ever since.

JEAN
How did Scott find you?

KURT
I expect with the help of your new telepath.

Jean closes her eyes.

KURT
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean…

JEAN
I’d like to be alone, Kurt. Please.

Kurt looks down sadly.

KURT
Of course.

He teleports away.

INT. STUDENT LOUNGE

PETER RASPUTIN, KITTY PRYDE, and JUBILATION LEE gather around a small table.

KITTY
So mutant high goes public. I guess it’s cool.

JUBILEE
Whatev. I just hope no crazy people kidnap us tonight.

COLOSSUS
I hear we’re pretty good at getting out of that.

Kitty smiles and leans up against Peter. Jubilee scoffs.

JUBILEE
I so cannot believe that you two were an item and didn’t even tell me for, like, a whole day.

KITTY
Sorry, Jubes. I’ll make sure I keep you up to the minute from now on.

JUBILEE
Everyone else does.

She looks past Kitty for a second.

JUBILEE
And speaking of keeping tabs, B.itch Patrol alert.

Kitty turns around to see the STEPFORD CUCKOOS: ESME, SOPHIE, MINDEE, CELESTE, and PHOEBE.

KITTY
All right, everyone, thoughts off or else the whole mansion’ll know what you’re thinking.

The Cuckoos glare as one at the group as they walk past, then continue on their way to another set of chairs.

JUBILEE
Maybe one day they’ll make friends who don’t look like them.

KITTY
I don’t really like their hoebag teacher, either.

PETER
I like Miss Frost.

JUBILEE
You like Miss Frost’s chest, Pete. Like there’s not a guy on campus who’s not crushing on her.

KITTY
You’d better not be crushing on her.

Just then, Bobby shows up.

JUBILEE
Speaking of crushes…

Kitty shoots Jubilee a dirty look.

KITTY
What’s up, Iceman?

BOBBY
You really don’t have to do that.

JUBILEE
Maybe Mr. Drake, big bad Student-Teacher Liaison?

BOBBY
Really not a big deal, guys.

KITTY
Seriously, what’s going on?

BOBBY
Orientation time.

JUBILEE
Huh?

BOBBY
You guys have been here a while, know what’s going on. So you’re gonna help me show around the freshman.

JUBILEE
Isn’t that the seniors’ job?

PETER
Yeah, we’re juniors, Bobby.

BOBBY
Yeah, well, we aren’t exactly much with the seniors right now.

Awkward silence.

KITTY
Yeah, I guess not.

They get up.

KITTY
Lead us away, Iceman.
 
The last scene here has the potential to piss a lot of people off, but hopefully the liberty isn't too much.

EXT. TIBETAN MOUNTAINS – DAY

Shaw, bundled in winter gear, in a desolate area with VALERIE COOPER.

SHAW
So this is where Stryker kept his toys?

COOPER
Yep. And believe me when I say, there’s a lot of ‘em.

They approach old stone doors, hidden by years of erosion and piles of snow.

COOPER
Right in here.

SHAW
How ominous.

INT. CAVE

Inside is a makeshift lab, degenerate from months of disuse.

COOPER
We’re going down to the bottom.

INT. SUBLEVELS

Cooper and Shaw descend a long set of stairs, descending into darkness. Slowly, sets of lets flash on, one by one. The room is massive.

ANGLE ON: Shaw’s face.

SHAW
My God.

Pan around to reveal an army of Sentinels, twelve foot monsters in black and silver.

COOPER
We don’t know how functional they are after all this time.

Shaw grins.

SHAW
No matter. If I recall, one of Stryker’s experiments has gone missing again.

COOPER
You’re saying we bring him home?

SHAW
Precisely, Dr. Cooper.

EXT. MADRIPOOR – DAY

The port town is bustling with all kinds of miscreants and ne’er-do-wells, from pirates to pushers. Among them walks PATCH, so named for an eye-patch over his left eye. He wears a cowboy hat, low to conceal his eyes, and a leather jacket and jeans. He enters a bar nearby.

INT. BAR

The barkeep, a Japanese woman named MARIKO, shouts to Patch.

MARIKO
Hello, Patch.

PATCH
Mariko.

Patch sits at the bar.

MARIKO
It’s been a while. Didn’t think we’d see you again.

PATCH
I got a little side tracked.

MARIKO
Well, you always knew how to keep busy, didn’t you? Usual?

PATCH
Yeah.

She puts a bottle of Yuengling on the counter.

MARIKO
All the ethnic s.hit we’ve got here, and you want a Yuengling. I really never will understand you.

PATCH
Gotta go with what tastes good, Mariko.

MARIKO
That so?

She leans in closer.

MARIKO
Why don’t we step into the back, “Patch”.

Patch looks up at her.

PATCH
If you say so.

He gets up and discreetly walks through a door toward the back of the bar. Mariko follows moments later.

INT. WALK-IN

The fridge is, of necessity, cold, with enough beer to keep the place in stock for months. Patch leans against some shelves. Mariko enters.

MARIKO
Don’t lean, you’ll knock everything down. And you can take that stupid thing off.

Grimacing, Patch stands up straight and removes his hat and eye patch, revealing LOGAN.

MARIKO
Honestly, Logan, why you’ve always dressed like that…

LOGAN
I don’t like people knowin’ where I am.

MARIKO
Yeah, all three of them that actually know you in the first place.

She grabs a beer and opens it.

MARIKO
You’ve been in the news lately. So much for people knowing where you are.

LOGAN
Yeah, well, I’m thinking not too many people here take so kindly to my type.

MARIKO
So you’re back to trying to get yourself killed, is that it?

LOGAN
I fell in with some people. Good people. They needed help.

MARIKO
And then you walked out on them?

Logan swigs his beer.

LOGAN
…Things happened. It got hard.

MARIKO
You mean you got close.

LOGAN
Mariko, if this is about—

MARIKO
Oh, believe me, Logan, I’m over that s.hit. It’s just a shame that a whole new group has to put up with it now.

A brief pause falls.

MARIKO
How long you down for?

LOGAN
A few days.

MARIKO
And then where?

Logan shrugs.

LOGAN
We’ll see. I don’t like plannin’ things out.

MARIKO
You never did.

She opens the freezer door.

MARIKO
Don’t be stranger, at least.

Logan walks past her.

LOGAN
Never.

INT. BAR

Logan enters the bar, disguised once again. He sniffs. Mariko walks ahead of him.

LOGAN
Get down!

Mariko drops as a bullet strikes Logan from outside. Logan snarls and rips it out, popping his claws.

EXT. BAR – DAY

Soldiers rush the bar, six in total.

INT. BAR

Patrons run away as the soldiers enter. Roaring, Logan charges the first one through, stabbing him in the chest. Another one gets a shot to Logan’s side, but Logan is unphased, and he leaps over to this soldier and slashes him down. Logan backflips behind the bar, striking a third soldier as he does, before a bullet finally catches him in the forehead. He falls.

SOLDIER
All right, tranq him and move him out!

The soldiers close in on Logan.

EXT. BAR – DAY

Mariko watches the events unfold in horror, then runs away.

EXT. MARSEILLE – DAY

A small market street, busy as this is the lunch hour. Native French go about their business as usual.

Suddenly, Gambit and Rogue rush into the alley, Gambit carrying what appears to be a good amount of bread. Two bakers chase after them.

ROGUE
Remy!

GAMBIT
Dis way, chére!

They push through the crowd, the camera swaying with them, the bakers hot in pursuit. Gambit yanks Rogue to the side, and the duck down an alley, unbeknownst to the bakers. They lean against the wall, panting.

ROGUE
You’re crazy!

GAMBIT
You think it’s crazy. Me…I call dis fun.

He breaks off a piece of bread and eats it. He offers Rogue a loaf.

GAMBIT
Bes’ bread in the world, chére.

ROGUE
A gentleman would’ve offered it to me first.

Gambit chuckles.

GAMBIT
Well, I dunno if you noticed yet, but Gambit ain’t no gentleman.

ROGUE
Believe me, sugar, I’ve noticed.

GAMBIT
An’ in my experience, the ladies don’t ever seem to mind.

Gambit moves in. Gently, Rogue pushes him away.

ROGUE
You know I can’t.

GAMBIT
I don’t scare that easy.

ROGUE
No.

Gambit looks hurt for a moment, then shrugs.

GAMBIT
First time for everything.

They walk down the alley toward Gambit’s motorcycle, parked at the end.

GAMBIT
Just a warning, though…as far as Gambit goes, best part is the chase.

INT. ORORO’S OFFICE

Ororo sits at her desk, Scott standing by a bookshelf. Henry sits down against the wall.

HENRY
Public reaction is mixed at best.

SCOTT
But the president is on our side.

HENRY
You’d be surprised just how rarely that counts, Scott.

He turns to Ororo.

HENRY
This entire operation has been secret for years. Is it really wise to go public now?

ORORO
We’ve been hiding too long, Hank. These protests will die down, once they see we have nothing to hide.

Emma bursts in.

EMMA
The bloody humans are outside. Again.

Scott moves toward the door.

SCOTT
Damage control, let’s go.

EXT. XAVIER INSTITUTE – DAY

A group of extremists protests the mansion, holding signs and reciting chants. The X-Men exit.

EMMA
How dreadfully original. What next, pitchforks and torches?

She turns diamond and shouts.

EMMA
I am trying to teach!

Ororo moves forward with Scott.

ORORO
People, please! This is a school!

A NEWS REPORTER shouts from the crowd.

REPORTER
Ms. Munroe! Ms. Munroe, are you willing to deny that Charles Xavier is training and assembling a private mutant army here?

Ororo glares at the reporter.

ORORO
Of course I deny that. And in any case, Charles Xavier died.

REPORTER
And what about Jean Grey? The doctor? She was a student here, and then a teacher.

ORORO
Jean is away for rehabilitation right now, and we hope that she will make a full recovery.

A second reporter chimes in.

REPORTER #2
Mr. Summers, what are your comments on the X-Men’s destruction of Alcatraz?

SCOTT
The X-Men didn’t destroy Alcatraz, we helped save it.

REPORTER #1
Mr. Summers, you’re one of the first to come out of Xavier’s paramilitary program, correct?

SCOTT
Para—look, we’re teachers! This is a school. The X-Men is a volunteer rescue and emergency operation.

REPORTER #2
But no government agency recognizes you.

ORORO
That’s because they won’t.

The protestors get angry at this statement. Clouds form over the sky as Storm prepares to respond further, but Emma acts first.

EMMA
Enough of this!

Everything stops.

PROTESTORS IN UNISON
I want to leave in a swift and orderly fashion.

They slowly file away. Ororo spins toward Emma.

ORORO
Emma…!

EMMA
They’ll get home and remember nothing.

SCOTT
That doesn’t make—

Emma cuts him off.

EMMA
Let me make one thing perfectly clear, Mr. Summers. They will always hate us. We will never live in peace, they will never trust us, and they bloody well weren’t leaving the front lawn any time soon.

She strides away.

EMMA
So if you have an issue with what I’ve done, you can get me after class.
 
Hmmm........ Im getting curious here, I wonder about Jean's role in the story, the twist intriges me, keep going....
 
INT. HALLWAYS

Students crowd around the windows, looking out. Bobby and Kitty join them.

BOBBY
C’mon, guys, we’re headed back.

Reluctantly, the students go back to the auditorium.

INT. AUDITORIUM

The students sit down. Bobby, Kitty, Jubilee, and Peter go up on stage.

BOBBY
Okay, we’re gonna split everyone into groups. Listen for your name. With Kitty, we’ve got Dani Moonstar, Esme Stepford, Roberto DaCosta, and Noriko Ashida. Just follow her outside, alright?

The four get up. Esme leaves the other Cuckoos with some difficulty.

INT. HALLWAY

Kitty sits on the floor, and the others follow suit. Esme is reluctant.

KITTY
Okay, so…uh, welcome to Xavier’s. It’s kinda tough at first, adjusting to life away from home at all, but it gets easier, and…yeah.

Awkward stares from the students. Roberto slowly raises his hand.

ROBERTO
So, like…we’re training to be X-Men?

KITTY
Uh…no, that’s not the idea, exactly. I mean, yeah, we train you to use your powers and all, but we also teach non-violence.

NORIKO
That doesn’t make any sense.

KITTY
Yeah, well…look, I didn’t sign up for this. You might be X-Men, I don’t really know, but it’s not a goal.

Esme rolls her eyes. Kitty glares at her.

INT. BACKSTAGE

Peter sits with his group, Sophie and Celeste Stepford, and Sam and Paige Guthrie.

PAIGE
You’re really big.

SAM
Paige!

PETER
Uh, no it’s okay. I, uh, I get it all the time?

Awkward silence.

PETER
So…Xavier’s…

CUT TO:

INT. BOBBY’S ROOM

Kitty, Peter, and Jubilee enter the room.

JUBILEE
Bobby Drake, I will kill you!

KITTY
I am so glad you’re graduating this year, because if anyone ever makes me do that again…!

BOBBY
It wasn’t that—

KITTY
Yeah, well I didn’t see any of the Frost clones in your group!

PETER
It was awkward. The Southern girl just kept telling me how big I was.

Kitty whips her head toward him.

KITTY
Who? I want a name.

Emma knocks on the door and enters. Kitty sneers.

EMMA
Bobby, you’re wanted downstairs.

KITTY
Clear out the riot okay?

Emma narrows her eyes.

EMMA
Just fine, “Kitten”.

Emma stalks away, and Bobby follows her.

JUBILEE
Okay, what was that about?

KITTY
She just psychically made all those people leave, I heard Storm talking about it.

PETER
So?

KITTY
Jean wouldn’t have done anything like that. Neither would Professor X.

JUBILEE
And she’s such a *****! God, Pete, get with the times.

KITTY
I really don’t trust her. Something’s up.

PETER
Xavier knew her.

JUBILEE
Yeah, and Magneto was his bosom buddy. Sorry, but I don’t think the Professor always had such a great knack for seeing the evil.

Peter sighs.

PETER
Maybe. I think you’re stretching it a bit, though.

KITTY
Okay. Remind me to ask again when she actually wears a whole shirt.

Peter looks kind of hurt. Kitty hugs him.

KITTY
Sorry. But you know you’re looking at them.

JUBILEE
Hell, I’m looking at them…wait.

She runs out the door just in time to see the Cuckoos turn the corner.

JUBILEE
Oh, damn.

INT. EMMA’S ROOM

Emma looks out the window, talking to someone unseen.

EMMA
I know.

Pause.

EMMA
No. Not yet.

Pause.

EMMA
You know that can’t happen. We don’t even know…yes, I understand, but my research…

Pause.

EMMA
I realize that time is short, but I’ve only just gotten here, and I’ve yet to win all of the staff over…No, Alcatraz was not enough, apparently. It’s the women, they’re awful and catty.

Pause.

EMMA
Oh, yes, do let’s joke now. Fine, I’ll try to speed it up. I’d just better be far away from the bloody things when this goes down.

Pause.

EMMA
All right. I’ll keep in touch.

Emma closes the curtain and exits the room.
 
INT. SENTINEL BAY

Shaw stands looking over the army.

VOICE
Your mole?

Shaw turns. Out of the shadows a pair of red eyes gleam.

SHAW
I’ve just contacted her. Everything’s going to plan.

RED EYES
I’ve decided to make my move now.

SHAW

You have floundered about quite enough, Shaw. It begins now.

The red eyes vanish as Cooper enters the room.

COOPER
Who are you talking to?

SHAW
No one.

COOPER
I thought I heard voices.

SHAW
You must be mistaken.

Cooper decides not to argue the point.

COOPER
Trask is on the line in the comms center. The president wants a video conference.

SHAW
And they need me?

COOPER
No. Trask wants to talk to you privately, to see what the situation is. He wouldn’t be more specific.

Cooper walks closer, looking into the shadow behind Shaw.

COOPER
This is more than business, isn’t it?

Shaw leans in close.

SHAW
Heed my advice, Doctor: don’t concern yourself with the specifics of this operation.

Shaw strides past her, leaving Cooper alone with the shadow.

RED EYES
Too late, Doctor Cooper.

She screams as something lunges at her.

SHOCK CUT TO:

EXT. MEMORIAL GARDEN – NIGHT

That night, the mansion’s memorial garden is empty. A larger bust of Xavier has been placed at his grave in his honor. A man steps from the shadows, older, with grey hair and wrinkles beneath his eyes. He might have looked fierce once upon a time, but now he is merely sad. His name is ERIK LENSHERR, and he used to be MAGNETO.

Erik approaches the gravestone.

ERIK
Charles…how the world has changed.

Ororo steps into the garden.

ORORO
What are you doing here?

Erik turns.

ERIK
Hello, Ororo.

ORORO
Shouldn’t you be rotting in a cell somewhere?

ERIK
If they had managed to catch me, I imagine I’d be doing just that. But they did not catch me.

ORORO
What are you doing here?

ERIK
I know it’s difficult for you to understand, but Charles Xavier was my greatest friend. I came to pay him my respects.

ORORO
You let Jean kill him.

Erik holds up a finger.

ERIK
On the contrary, I tried to stop Phoenix from killing him. But I was too late.

ORORO
And then you manipulated her.

ERIK
My methods were in error, I admit. But the cure is gone, now.

ORORO
And at what cost?

Erik looks down at his chest.

ERIK
I must admit, I didn’t expect such a bold move, Ororo. Your actions were fitting of myself.

ORORO
Never. I’ll never be anything like you.

ERIK
I suppose I have caused you a fair amount of trouble, over all these years. But I didn’t come for abuse. I came to ask for sanctuary at your school.

Ororo answers quickly, reflexively.

ORORO
No.

Erik is taken aback.

ERIK
Surely, the others would have—

ORORO
No. The won’t know you were ever here. And if you set foot on these grounds again, I will kill you myself. You’re not welcome here, Erik.

Erik looks extremely hurt, and turns his back, making to leave.

ERIK
A pity, Ororo…you’re already like me than you think.

And with that, he vanishes. Ororo stands watching him leave, a light wind picking up around her.

I thought the scene with Shaw, Valerie and the mysterious "red eyes" was really well written.

It is a good story :) there is a lot of dhepts and all.... and some twists... All I can say is bring on more :D
I don't know if you read my X3... if you didn't check it out please if you have time and let me know what you think.

EXT. FRENCH ROAD – NIGHT

Gambit and Rogue pull to the side of the road.

ROGUE
Where’re we goin’ now?

GAMBIT
Paris. But I gotta make a pit stop first.

He turns to Rogue.

GAMBIT
Wait here.

Gambit walks down the road a way, and enters a small hostel.

INT. HOSTEL

It is nearly pitch black inside. None of the lights work. Gambit enters cautiously.

RED EYES
Welcome, Remy.

GAMBIT
Everything in order?

RED EYES
Always to the point.

GAMBIT
Yeah, well, I’d rather get dis over with quick.

RED EYES
Of course.

Red Eyes extends a hand, holding a briefcase. Gambit opens it: money. Lots.

GAMBIT
I find out you screwed me…

RED EYES
Don’t threaten me, Remy. It’s puerile, and rather pointless.

GAMBIT
Fancy words.

Gambit turns to leave, but a snarl stops him. Gambit turns and finds himself face to face with SABRETOOTH.

SABRETOOTH
You don’t wanna stick around for the party?

Gambit turns again.

GAMBIT
No thanks, mon ami.

Gambit leaves.

RED EYES
It begins. Go.

Sabretooth leaves, followed by a group of others all obscured in shadow.

EXT. MANHATTAN – DAY

A busy street, typical for the time of day and year. A group of people walks in sync along the sidewalk, pushing through in order to stay together: HARPOON, RIPTIDE and SCALPHUNTER: the MARAUDERS. Scalphunter speaks as he sharpens a knife.

SCALPHUNTER
Your game is first, Harpoon.

Harpoon grins and reaches for a harpoon from his back. It charges with electricity, and he launches it across the street, impaling three humans.

All hell breaks loose. Riptide secrets a strange resin, then leaps into the air, spinning like a top, flinging the resin toward cars and buildings and people alike, cutting all to shreds. Scalphunter tackles a man to the ground and slices with his knife (ANGLE ON Scalphunter during this).

INT. MANSION

Scott rushes into the kitchen, where Ororo and Henry sit and eat.

SCOTT
Active team in the basement, now!

They jump up and run through the mansion to the sublevels, talking as they do.

HENRY
What’s going on?

SCOTT
There’s an attack in Manhattan, mutants. It’s bad.

ORORO
You’ve called everyone?

SCOTT
Yeah.

INT. SUBLEVEL

The X-Men suit up: Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Iceman, Colossus, and Shadowcat.

SHADOWCAT
Where’s Miss Frost?

CYCLOPS
I told her we had to move.

SHADOWCAT
I’ll go get her.

Kitty phases up through the sublevel.

CYCLOPS
Alright, we’re gonna have to go short. Let’s move.

INT. EMMA’S ROOM

Kitty phases up from the floor, in uniform. The room is empty.

SHADOWCAT
Okay, where are you, *****?

INT. SUBLEVEL

After the jet takes off, Emma enters the sublevel and heads toward Cerebro. She stops for the retinal scan.

CEREBRO
Welcome, Miss Frost.

Emma smiles, then enters.

INT. CEREBRO

Emma enters the newly rebuilt chamber slowly, as the lights flicker on. The camera starts low and tilts up, zooming in on Emma at the console. She sits down and places the helmet on her head.

EMMA
Access the Xavier Protocols.

INT. OVAL OFFICE

Trask enters. The president stands, angry.

PRESIDENT
Trask, you failed to make the conference yesterday. You’ve set everything back—

Trask sets a folder on the desk. The president picks it up and opens it. Inside are satellite images of Manhattan, the Marauders, and the X-Men’s arrival.

TRASK
Twenty confirmed human deaths already. In Manhattan, sir.

The president looks up.

TRASK
We don’t have a choice, Mr. President.

The president sighs.

PRESIDENT
How long will it take?

TRASK
They can be operational by nightfall, at latest.

PRESIDENT
Then do it.

Trask turns and pulls out his radio.

INT. BIG ROOM

In the Tibet temple, Logan wakes up. The room is empty, save for one Sentinel.

LOGAN
Oh, s.hit.

Logan leaps up and pops his claws. The Sentinel moves forward and fires a laser at him. Logan dodges, then slashes at its leg. It makes a dent, but not much better. Logan looks around, but the room is bare, no environment to play off.

The Sentinel tries to crush him, but Logan rolls away. The Sentinel turns on a dime and fires a hole in the floor beneath Logan. Logan falls through. The Sentinel is deactivated. The lights come on, and Shaw stands on a balcony high above. A cell phone beeps.

SHAW
This is Shaw.

Pause.

SHAW
Oh, yes, Mr. Trask. They’re working wonderfully. Tonight?

Shaw smiles.

SHAW
Certainly.

EXT. TIBET MOUNTAINS

The snow falls, hard. Logan trudges up the mountain, with no clear goal. Shivering and covered in frost, he weakens with each step. He collapses. CRANE UP.

INT. CEREBRO

Emma remains at the Cerebro console. Before her are diagnostics and statistics for all the X-Men: strengths, weaknesses, powers: and most importantly, how specifically to kill each one. She currently examines Cyclops’.

Kitty phases through the door and remains phased, walking on air toward Emma, who is oblivious. ANGLE ON Emma, Kitty in frame over the shoulder.

Kitty reaches Emma and solidifies at the last minute.

EMMA
What--?

Kitty grabs the helmet and twists it. Emma grunts and wriggles out, turning to face Kitty. Kitty slugs her in the face.

KITTY
Did you think you’d get away with it?

EMMA
You don’t know what you’re talking about, little girl!

KITTY
Of course I do! I’ve been through every inch of this school’s computer files, and that includes Xavier’s secret stuff.

She kicks Emma in the knee. Recovering, Emma turns to diamond.

EMMA
It seems to me like you’ve been snooping just a bit too much.

Emma punches Kitty in the face, knocking her back. Emma towers over Kitty.

EMMA
Don’t play with the big kids, darling. You’re going to find that you just don’t make the cut.

Kitty snarls and leaps through Emma, phased. Emma grunts.

EMMA
God, but that is unnerving.

KITTY
Lemme get at you again and I’ll let go in the middle of the wall. As deaths go, not the funnest.

EMMA
I think you’re overdue for a lesson in manners, Miss Pryde.

KITTY
Me? I’m not the evil ***** in the room.

Emma puts her hands to her temples. Kitty screams.

EMMA
This, Miss Pryde, is a telepathic assault. Enjoy.

Kitty falls to her knees. Emma turns to leave, but then stops.

EMMA
Come to think of it, I have a better idea.

Emma releases her hold. Kitty sneers and tries to get back up, but she phases.

EMMA
Why don’t you stay that way for a while?

Kitty struggles, but she’s unable to unphase.

EMMA
Don’t bother, darling. I’ve blocked the portion of your brain that controls your powers.

Kitty sinks into the floor.

EMMA
I think we’ve seen the last of little Miss Pryde.

Kitty vanishes. Smirking, Emma turns and leaves.

INT. HIGHWAY

RED EYES (V.O.)
It’s done.

EMMA
Yes, it’s done. What, is Shaw busy?

RED EYES (V.O.)
Yes. Send me the files, Emma.

EMMA
Fine.

Pause.

EMMA
Okay, done.

RED EYES (V.O.)
You’ve done well.

EMMA
Very good. I’ll be leaving now.

RED EYES (V.O.)
Best of luck, Emma.

EMMA
Of course.
 
INT. JUBILEE’S ROOM

Jubilee sits on her bed with Dani Moonstar.

DANI
I make people see their dreams. Best fantasies, worst nightmares, that kinda thing.

JUBILEE
Oh. That’s cool.

Pause.

JUBILEE
I make fireworks.

Dani nods faux enthusiastically.

DANI
That’s awesome.

Esme enters the room.

JUBILEE
I’m sorry, I don’t think I decided to like you today, so what are doing in here? B.itch.

ESME
Don’t flatter yourself. We think Katherine’s gotten herself into trouble.

JUBILEE
Oh, right, I buy that.

ESME
She didn’t go on the mission. And we can’t contact Miss Frost.

The other Cuckoos fan out behind Esme. Jubilee becomes suddenly very serious.

JUBILEE
Where’s Kitty?

CUCKOOS
We don’t know. We can’t find her telepathically. There’s no trace of her at all.

JUBILEE
No, no no, this is bad…

Jubilee jumps off the bed and joins the Cuckoos.

JUBILEE
Come on, Dani. You wanna make X-Man?

Dani gets up hesitantly and joins the girls, who move quickly down the hallway.

EXT. MANHATTAN – DAY

The X-Jet hovers over the street, as Storm flies out. Colossus jumps off, creating a huge dent in the ground where he lands. Iceman slides down, while Beast and Cyclops land.

Scalphunter notices them first and charges Colossus. He slices, but the knife breaks against Colossus metal skin. Undeterred, Colossus punches Scalphunter, who flies back an entire city block. Harpoon targets Iceman, who freezes the projectile in midair, causing it to fall to the ground and shatter. Meanwhile, Riptide launches his shuriken at Storm, who catches them in a tornado and spins them out of harms way. Cyclops fires an optic beam at Harpoon’s spear, breaking it in half. Scalphunter leaps onto Beast from behind, ripping off a patch of fur with a new knife.

SCALPHUNTER
I’d like to make a coat out of this.

Beast snarls and slams Scalphunter into the ground.

BEAST
You’ll have to find some other animal.

Riptide turns on Colossus, but his shuriken bounce harmlessly off him. Colossus picks up Riptide and tosses him toward Cyclops, who picks off individual projectiles before blasting Riptide away.

Police cars arrive on the scene now, SWAT teams pouring out of armored trucks. Cyclops shouts to them.

CYCLOPS
Move in, take out these three--!

Before he can complete the order, a shot strikes Colossus. The other X-Men look at each other.

STORM
What now, Cyclops?

CYCLOPS
Don’t shoot at us! We’re helping!

Another bullet catches Cyclops in the arm. He grunts and seizes the wound.

STORM
Scott!

She turns to Beast.

STORM
Prep the jet, we have to get out of here.

The X-Men run away as the police move in. The Marauders do the same, though Harpoon is tagged by a bullet and limps the rest of the way.

The jet takes off, under fire from police.

INT. JET

Beast and Storm fly, while Scott rests in the back.

CYCLOPS
What the hell was that?

STORM
Just like old times.

BEAST
These were new mutants. Do you think they’re acting alone?

CYCLOPS
Doubtful. Magneto, maybe?

Storm responds a bit too quickly.

STORM
No. This isn’t something he’d do.

BEAST
I agree. There’s no point to it. Just wanton violence.

CYCLOPS
Well, whoever they were, they got away.

STORM
Those police didn’t seem like they were trying very hard. Something doesn’t feel right.

Cyclops bites his lip.

CYCLOPS
I dunno. First thing I wanna do is find out where the hell Emma is. We’ll go from there.

INT. UNDERGROUND

Kitty sinks into the earth, further and further down.

KITTY
Not good. NOT good. C’mon, Kitty, get back up there.

She struggles against her downward descent.

KITTY
Come on. That b.itch is up there with Peter. Think about hat. Come ON.

She moves up just a fraction of an inch.

KITTY
That’s more like it.

EXT. HELLFIRE CLUB – DAY

Emma exits a cab and heads toward the ornate building. She walks up the pathway and enters.

INT. HELLFIRE CLUB FOYER

She puts down a suitcase.

EMMA
Hm. Empty.

She turns to go up the stairs, and her eyes are drawn to the top.

RED EYES
Hello, Miss Frost.

Emma scoffs.

EMMA
You certainly get around.

RED EYES
I’m only ever truly in one place. At least for now.

EMMA
Yes, yes, you and your obsession, we know, darling. I assume Sebastian’s with you?

RED EYES
Yes. Your associates, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Leland, are also en route. I expect to see you as well.

EMMA
Bloody unlikely. I’ve no interest in archaeology. Plus, we had a deal.

RED EYES
You are part of the Hellfire Club, and you will uphold Shaw’s agreement.

EMMA
Shaw doesn’t speak for me.

Shadow surrounds Emma’s feet and ankles.

RED EYES
You seem to be mistaken, Emma. You do not have a choice in this matter. And, if I recall correctly, your only stipulation was to be far away from the X-Men when phase one began.

EMMA
And you’re just so far away out there. Very clever.

RED EYES
I like to think so. I expect you by nightfall.

EMMA
Very well.

The shadows vanish, as does Red Eyes. Disgusted, Emma continues up the stairs.
 
I really like your the way your screenplay is going Boba. It's cool to see Jubilee taking part of the action. Are you planning on using any more of the New Mutants?

I was wondering a couple of things, minor stuff really and since this is your story you can put this any way you want it, but:

1) Isn't Colossus too old for Kitty? I always figured him to be more of a teacher at the Institute than a student. I might be mistaken but Daniel Cudmore sure seemed to be more along those lines.

2) Is your Emma Frost British? This isn't really important just mere curiosity on my part because of the way she expresses herself.

Anyway great story, keep it coming.
 
My Emma is British. Morrison's greatest contribution to the franchise, IMO.

As for Colossus, his age wasn't made very clear in the films. In the comics he was 18 when she was 13, and that was made a point of contention. I decided in the end that I'd rather see him as a student, and his exchange with Logan in X2 kind of seemed to reinforce the idea of a student/teacher relationship anyway, so that's what I went with.

The mutants from Kitty's group are going to get the most screentime, but all of the New Mutants are pretty much going to be small sized roles.
 
INT. PENTAGON SITUATION ROOM

Trask stands, surrounded by advisors.

TRASK
Deploy to all major cities: LA, Chicago, New York, D.C…you know the drill.

ADVISOR
Launch in five minutes.

TRASK
Good. Get al the department heads on the line. Tell them that Operation: Zero Tolerance goes in effect as of launch time.

ADVISOR
Yes sir.

INT. SENTINEL BAY

The Sentinels’ eyes light up, pairs at a time. The effect is unsettling, the eyes an eerie white glow on otherwise dark bodies. Shaw watches, Red Eyes behind him.

SHAW
I hope you haven’t forced your hand with this.

RED EYES
On the contrary. This ploy will keep both the government and the X-Men out of the way while I continue my work here. It would be unfortunate if I were interrupted.

SHAW
You killed Dr. Cooper.

RED EYES
Dr. Cooper asked too many questions, Shaw. It would have made the working environment…difficult, let’s say, were she to remain here.

SHAW
I see.

A panel opens in the roof, and the Sentinels take off one by one into the sky.

SHAW
So this is it.

RED EYES
You’ve ushered in a new era, Shaw. Remember that.

Shaw watches as the Sentinels leave.

EXT. MANSION – EVENING

The X-Men stand outside. After a few moments, a winged young man lands before them. His name is WARREN WORTHINGTON III: ANGEL.

CYCLOPS
We got your call. What’s up?

ANGEL
You guys have heard of the Hellfire Club?

STORM
Emma may have mentioned it. Rich people, right?

ANGEL
My dad’s a member. And the club’s president just funded a government program called Operation: Zero Tolerance.

BEAST
Oh, no…

ANGEL
It’s headed by a guy named Trask.

Cyclops turns to Beast.

CYCLOPS
You know anything about this?

BEAST
No. But you can bet it’s backlash against the attack today.

STORM
The government can implement a program that quickly?

BEAST
Of course not. Something like this has been on Trask’s mind for years. This, Alcatraz...they're just reasons.

Beast turns back to Angel.

BEAST
What do you know about this program?

ANGEL
Not much. Just what I overheard. Something about Stryker.

STORM
William Stryker.

She looks to Scott.

STORM
You don’t think…

CYCLOPS
We need to get down to Cerebro.

INT. SUBLEVELS

Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Colossus, and Angel run through the halls toward Cerebro. The door is open.

CYCLOPS
Who’s been…

INT. CEREBRO

Scott enters. The lights are on, but the Cerebro console is smashed.

STORM
Emma.

Jubilee runs into the room.

STORM
Jubilee, what’s wrong?

JUBILEE
Kitty’s gone!

COLOSSUS
Gone?

JUBILEE
The Cuckoos think Miss Frost did something to her.

ANGEL
What’s going on here?

CYCLOPS
We don’t know. But now two X-Men are missing.

COLOSSUS
We have to find Kitty.

STORM
Jubilee, take me to Emma’s girls.

INT. CUCKOOS’ ROOM

Storm stands before all five Cuckoos.

STORM
Tell me what you know.

CUCKOOS
We don’t know anything about where Miss Frost is. Honest.

Storm bites her lip.

STORM
This isn’t good, girls. For all we know, one or both of them is dead.

Suddenly, Kitty appears from the ground behind the Cuckoos. She gets a few inches above, then solidifies, tackling Celeste.

KITTY
Where is she?

Kitty looks up and sees Storm and Jubilee.

KITTY
Oh…hey.

She gets off Celeste, who gets up sneering and dusting herself off.

KITTY
Storm, Emma got the Xavier Protocols.

STORM
The—Kitty, how do you--?

KITTY
Is that really important right now? Emma wanted them, so she went into Cerebro and stole them. I tried to stop her—broke her nose, too, the b.itch—but she did something to my powers, made me stay phased. So I kept falling.

STORM
You fought Emma?

KITTY
Yeah, but she still got away. So I guess I didn’t do so great.

STORM
Of course you did. You found out what she’s up to.

Storm crosses her arms, thinking.

STORM
Kitty, follow me downstairs. Jubilee, get Bobby and round up the students in the Danger Room. Something isn’t right here.
 
:D I really like how you are using Jubilee and Kitty in your plot. Very nice. Will we get to see Jubes in a fight seen?

I heard Miss Frost is missing?

Bobby moves to the front of the crowd.

BOBBY
I need everyone to listen up! There’s been an emergency with the X-Men, and they just need to make sure everyone’s safe. All right?

Bobby turns and finds himself face to face with Emma Frost.

EMMA
Honestly, Bobby, I think the term’s rather relative.

INT. WAR ROOM

Cyclops, Storm, Shadowcat, Colossus, Beast, and Angel gather around.

CYCLOPS
So we’re writing Emma into the equation now.

SHADOWCAT
None of this adds up. Stryker, the Xavier Protocols, Trask, and Emma…

BEAST
Don’t forget the Hellfire Club.

STORM
If Emma wanted the protocols, then we can assume she gave them to the Hellfire Club.

CYCLOPS
Which probably means they’ve found their way to Trask.

SHADOWCAT
I meant to ask…why would the Professor keep something like that?

BEAST
The professor’s done a lot of seemingly questionable things.

CYCLOPS
He kept them in case anyone ever lost control of their powers. Like…like Jean did.

Cyclops pauses, in pain.

CYCLOPS
There’s a file for him, too.

STORM
Warren, do you know anything else at all about Zero Tolerance?

ANGEL
No.

CYCLOPS
Then we have to assume the worst. If Stryker was involved, then that means Sentinels.

BEAST
We connect the dots, then what we’ve got is…

SHADOWCAT
A bunch of Sentinels that know exactly how to kill all of us.

EXT. X-MANSION – NIGHT

Night has fallen, quiet at first. Then the Sentinels land.

INT. WAR ROOM

An explosion rocks the room.

CYCLOPS
Everyone upstairs, now!

The X-Men rush to face the Sentinels.

INT. DANGER ROOM

Emma smirks at Bobby.

EMMA
I can attack every single one of them at once. Think they’ll survive?

Bobby turns to Jubilee.

BOBBY
Jubilee! Get outside, try to turn off the control room!

JUBILEE
Got it!

Jubilee rushes to the door. She finds an empty wall. Frantically, she searches for a handle anywhere, but nothing.

JUBILEE
Bobby! The door’s gone!

BOBBY
Oh no…

Emma turns to diamond form.

EMMA
Are you going to protect them?

Bobby sneers and ices up. Emma grins evilly and lunges at him, knocking him to the ground.

EMMA
I wonder…what would happen if you fell apart?

INT. MANSION FOYER

Cyclops runs up first, followed by Storm, Beast, Colossus, Angel, and Shadowcat. The Sentinels can be heard outside.

CYCLOPS
Scatter! Take them out one at a time!

EXT. MANSION – NIGHT

A Sentinel reaches down and rips off the roof of the mansion.

INT. MANSION FOYER

Kitty looks up where the ceiling used to be.

SHADOWCAT
That can’t be good.

A Sentinel lands, sending all the X-Men flying.

SHADWOCAT
Pete, throw me!

Colossus leaps over and picks up Shadowcat, throwing her up into the Sentinel. She phases through it, messing with the circuitry. She lands on the other side, phasing through the floor a bit before coming back up.

SHADOWCAT
Catch!

The Sentinel topples; Colossus catches it and throws it away from the mansion.

Storm flies into the sky and causes it to rain, then electrocutes a Sentinel with lightning. The Sentinel topples.

Beast dodges a series of lasers, while Cyclops nails a Sentinel in the head with a laser beam. Beast turns to Angel.

BEAST
Can you take me up?

Angel grabs Beast and flies up to a Sentinel, dropping Beast by it’s head. Snarling, Beast rips open the paneling and fiddles with the wires until the Sentinel stops in its tracks. Beast leaps back down as the Sentinel falls backwards.

INT. DANGER ROOM

Bobby and Emma continue to fight. Meanwhile, Sunspot and Jubilee contend with Wolverine.

JUBILEE

Jubilee dives out of the way just as Wolverine launches himself at her. She shoots fireworks at his back, and he snarls.

JUBILEE
Is this some freaky Danger Room program?

SUNSPOT
Must be.

Elsewhere, Dani and Esme try to fend off Nightcrawler, but can’t keep up with his teleportation.

DANI
Can’t you find your sisters or something?

ESME
Telepathy’s no good against a program. Neither are your powers. Get a clue.

DANI
Whatever.

She looks over her shoulder.

DANI
Sam!

Cannonball joins her.

DANI
How fast can you do that thing?

Nightcrawler reappears and lunges at Esme, but Cannonball launches into him, and they both crash into the far wall. Cannonball recovers first.

SAM
Pretty fast.

Emma slugs Bobby in the chin.

EMMA
You must have a flaw somewhere.

Bobby staggers back, into someone.

Rogue.

Without missing a beat, Rogue punches him, hard, and he goes flying into the wall. Emma smirks.
