Episode 101- “Hated”

FADE IN:

INT. PRYDE HOUSEHOLD-DEERFIELD-DAY

A 15-year old girl, KITTY PRYDE, enters her kitchen. She is a little below average height, her long brown hair back in a ponytail. She goes to grab a soda from a fridge.

KITTY PRYDE
Mom, I’m home!

Voices are heard from the living room. One belongs to Kitty’s mother, TERRI, while the other two are not familiar to Kitty.

TERRI (OS)
Katherine, can you come out here for a minute?

KITTY PRYDE
Sure, Mom.

Setting her soda on the kitchen table, she enters the living room.

INT. LIVING ROOM

Terri sits with a man and woman, each in their early twenties.

KITTY PRYDE
Whatever it is, I didn’t do it.

WOMAN
You’re not in any trouble. My name’s Jean Grey. (she motions to the man next to her, wearing ruby sunglasses) This is Scott Summers.

Kitty slowly walks over to sit on the arm of a chair.

TERRI
Would you like something to drink, Mr. Summers?


SCOTT
A glass of water, if it’s not any trouble, ma’am.

Terri smiles.

TERRI
Miss Grey?

JEAN
No, thank you.

TERRI
I’ll be right back.

She goes into the kitchen.

KITTY PRYDE
So if I’m not in any trouble, what are you doing here?

SCOTT
We’re here to offer you a place at our school. Xavier’s School for Gifted Children.

KITTY PRYDE
I’m…not really all that gifted. B+ student, really.

JEAN
Not like that. There are people who have special powers, due to their genetic makeup. They can be any kind of powers—telepathy, pyrokinesis, weather manipulation.

KITTY PRYDE
You mean mutants?

SCOTT
Yes.

JEAN
But you need to forget everything you’ve heard about mutants.

SCOTT
We’re not all evil.

KITTY PRYDE
You guys are mutants.

JEAN
Not just us.

KITTY PRYDE
I’m not a mutant!

JEAN
Your mother tells us that you get headaches sometimes. That you find yourself suddenly in a different room.

KITTY PRYDE
I—I don’t believe you.

She turns to Scott.

KITTY PRYDE
Why don’t you take off your glasses?

SCOTT
I can’t.

KITTY PRYDE
Why not?

Jean smiles.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Because if he did, the solar energy those glasses are holding back would punch a hole in your house.

Kitty’s eyes widen.

KITTY PRYDE
Okay. You were just talking in my head.

JEAN
Telepath. Believe us now?

KITTY PRYDE
The…the whole headache thing has been happening for a while, now. Am…I’m a teleporter?

SCOTT
No. It’s more like you can walk through walls.


KITTY PRYDE
Oh. Cool.

Terri comes back in.

TERRI
You told her?

JEAN
Yes. She’s taking it very well.

Jean smiles at Kitty.

SCOTT
You’re going to let her come with us?

A communicator beeps at Scott’s side.

SCOTT
Excuse me. Jean will explain everything, Ms. Pryde.

Scott exits.

EXT. PRYDE HOUSEHOLD-DAY

Scott holds the communicator to his ear, like a cell phone.

SCOTT
Professor?

XAVIER (V/O)
Scott. Have you gotten Katherine yet?

SCOTT
Just about. What’s the problem?

XAVIER (V/O)
The Sentinels have followed you.

A look of panic falls over Scott’s face.

SCOTT
What about the others?

XAVIER (V/O)
Apparently, the Sentinels haven’t noticed them yet. Though Magneto may have.
SCOTT
We’ll be gone in ten minutes.

XAVIER (V/O)
Good luck.

Scott hangs up, re-enters the house.

INT. LIVING ROOM

Scott stands behind Jean.

SCOTT
I’m sorry, Ms. Pryde, but if it’s at all possible, we need to leave quickly.

TERRI
What’s wrong?

JEAN
Sentinels.

She looks up to Scott.

JEAN
It’s the Sentinels, isn’t it?

Scott nods.

TERRI
Those things from the news?

KITTY PRYDE
They’re here for me?

JEAN
They’re here for all of us.

SCOTT
She’s in danger here, Ms. Pryde.

TERRI
Please, keep her safe.

Kitty looks to Terri.


KITTY PRYDE
I’m going to this school?

TERRI
It’s for the best.

Fighting back tears, Terri hugs Kitty.

TERRI
Be careful.

KITTY PRYDE
Will I see you again?

TERRI
Of course you will.

Kitty turns back to Scott.

SCOTT
You ready?

KITTY PRYDE
Uh-huh.

They exit the house.

EXT. PRYDE HOUSEHOLD-DAY

On the lawn is the Blackbird, the X-Men’s personal jet.

KITTY PRYDE
Whoa. How did I miss that?

Jean smiles.

JEAN
You didn’t. It just got here.

The ground rumbles.

SCOTT
No, not now…

KITTY PRYDE
What is it?

A house across the street explodes as three Sentinels come right through it. They are 18 feet tall, silver, with glowing violet eyes. Dangerous.

SCOTT
Jean, get Kitty on board!

One of the Sentinels raises its hand toward Scott.

SCOTT
Go!

Scott rips off his glasses, a wave of energy pouring from his eyes and knocking the Sentinel back into the other two.

The jet starts up. Putting his glasses back on, Scott jumps on. It takes off.

INT. JET

Kitty sits down. A man speaks from the shadows, startling her. WOLVERINE.

WOLVERINE
Where next?

EXT. LOS ANGELES-DAY

Establishing shot.

INT. MALL

A 16-year old Chinese-American, Jubilation Lee (JUBILEE), runs through the mall, pursued by two Rent-a-cops.

She quickly runs past a man, face concealed by a cowboy hat, and a black woman with long white hair.

MAN
That her?

WOMAN
That’s her.

They watch Jubilee run into the distance, pursued by the security guards.

The woman looks at the man, shaking her head.

WOMAN
Logan, why do you insist on wearing that thing?

WOLVERINE
What? I was trying to be inconspicuous.

WOMAN
It’s not working. Let’s go.

They quickly follow the guards.

INT. HALLWAY

Jubilee quickly runs down an empty corridor, and out the door.

EXT. ALLEY

She soon realizes it’s a dead end.

JUBILEE
You gotta be kidding me!

She turns and quickly tries to grab the door before it closes, but misses. The door locks her outside.

Jubilee begins to pace back and forth, nervously.

JUBILEE
I’m not going to panic. It’ll be fine. I’ll explain to them that I didn’t steal anything. It’s all one big misunderstanding, that’s all.


VOICE (OS)
What is a big misunderstanding?

Jubilee turns to see a tall, muscular man walking toward her.

JUBILEE
Nothing.

MAN
What is wrong?

Jubilee doesn’t speak.

MAN
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Piotr Rasputin. You are Jubilee?

Jubilee nods.

PIOTR
I was sent to find you. You’re not in trouble.

JUBILEE
Easy for you to say.

PIOTR
Are you in trouble?

JUBILEE
Big time. A couple of security guards saw me blow up an arcade machine, which totally wasn’t my fault, like that even matters to them, and so they chased me like, halfway across the friggin’ mall, and then I get down here, all over a complete accident—

Jubilee stops.

JUBILEE
Sorry. Sometimes I talk too much.

PIOTR
Everything will be fine. I can protect you. My leader wants you to join his cause.

JUBILEE
“His cause”? What are you, in some kind of cult, or something?

He laughs.

PIOTR
No.

He stops in front of her.

PIOTR
He wants you to join the Brotherhood of Mutants.
Suddenly, the door opens. The man and woman, Wolverine and STORM, walk out. Piotr turns to them.

PIOTR
I am sorry, my friends. You are too late.

WOLVERINE
Whatever, Colossus.

STORM
It is her choice to decide whether she wants to come with us, or with you.

PIOTR
But if she chooses me, you would put up a fight, da?

Wolverine pops his claws.

WOLVERINE
Got that right.

STORM
Logan!

Wolverine leaps at COLOSSUS. Colossus turns to organic steel as Wolverine is airborne, and swats him away like a bug, sending him flying into a dumpster. The dumpster is dented a bit. Logan stands up, cracks his neck, and charges again at Colossus. Colossus grabs Wolverine and runs and smashes him into the wall. Storm runs over to Jubilee.

STORM
Miss Lee, please trust us when we say we are not the bad guys here.

Jubilee stands in shock as Colossus and Wolverine continue to fight. Storm grabs Jubilee by the shoulders.

STORM
Please, will you come with us?

Jubilee nods. Jubilee and Storm wait until the right moment and rush past the battle that is still going on. A SNIKT echoes as Logan’s claws sheathe underneath his skin, once again. He lets out a feral scream as he pushes Piotr with all of his might backwards, smashing into the dumpster. Jubilee stays behind for a couple more seconds. Piotr grabs Logan by the head and head butts him, sending Logan a little bit off balance for a second. Then, he grabs Logan and throws him into a chain-link fence. Fatigue begins to set in as Logan’s movements are beginning to slow down. Jubilee watches in horror, as Piotr grabs Logan and prepares to do a final move, that could possibly kill Logan.

JUBILEE
No! STOP IT!! Leave him alone!


She screams and grabs Colossus, shocking him with her “fireworks”. He loses grip on Logan, who falls to the ground for a second. Colossus knocks Jubilee aside, then passes out.

Logan slowly gets up. Storm runs over to him, and he puts his arm over her shoulder.

WOLVERINE
Kid’s got spunk, ‘roro. I’ll give her that.

His healing ability begins to work, and soon the bruises caused by Colossus begin to vanish.

STORM
Logan, we have to get out of here.

Jubilee begins to stagger from exhaustion and falls backwards, fainting. Logan runs and catches her and stands up as he carries her in his arms. He looks over at Piotr, who is not in his metal form any longer, and knocked out for the moment.

WOLVERINE
Let’s go.

Logan, carrying Jubilee, and Ororo quickly exit the alleyway.

EXT. ALLEY-CALDECOTT, MISSISSIPPI

A 16 year old girl, ROGUE ADLER, is running down an alley from a crowd of people. She ducks behind a dumpster and watches as the crowd passes it. She lets out a sigh.

ROGUE
That was too close…

Suddenly, a hand shoots forth and grabs her by the arm, dragging her out from behind the dumpster.

ROGUE
NO! Let go of me!

MAN #1
She’s right here.

He signals to the rest of the crowd.

Rogue tries to pull away from the man. As she struggles to get free, one of her gloves slips off. She’s able to break free for a second. The man grabs her hand again, this time grabbing the ungloved hand.

ROGUE
No!

The man begins to show signs of fatigue and exhaustion. Then, he lets go and falls to the ground convulsing. It’s almost like a fish out of a water, the way he keeps shaking non-stop now. A WOMAN, instantly, rushes to the man’s side and checks for his pulse. The woman lets out a sigh of relief, at the fact that there is a pulse. It’s there but it’s becoming very faint.

WOMAN
Someone call 911!

Rogue walks backward.

ROGUE
Ah didn’t mean to! It was an a-accident!

Another MAN steps forward from the crowd and points at Rogue.

MAN #2
She did this!

Rogue, regaining her senses, turns and runs away from the crowd once again. Five guys run after her and overcome her. Two of them grab Rogue by her arms.

ROGUE
(crying)
No!

MAN #3
Shut up!

He backhands Rogue, dragging her over to the crowd, then backhands her again, sending her to the ground. Rogue stays there with tears running down her cheeks. A figure walks out from the shadows. It’s an 18 year old man, REMY LeBEAU (GAMBIT), with dark brown hair and red eyes. He’s dressed in dark brown pants, with a black collared shirt, underneath a long dark brown trench coat with fingerless gloves on his hands. He begins to shuffle a deck of cards in his hands.

GAMBIT
I think ya’ll should leave the lady alone.

One of the five guys take a step towards him, while the rest of the crowd stays back.

MAN #2
Why’s that? You ain’t from around here; why should we lissen to you? She killed a man!

GAMBIT
You’re right, I’m not from ‘round here. But I don’t think ya’ll know for sure if that man’s really dead.

MAN #3
Well, you should know that in this town, we’re the judge and jury.

MAN #4
Tha’s right, Cajun. And we hereby convict this lady of murder!

GAMBIT
An’ what are you gonna do to her?

MAN #2
We’re gonna lynch her.

GAMBIT
Right. An’ that’s ‘cause she’s a mutant, right?

MAN #4
Never said that. But yeah, that ‘bout covers it.

GAMBIT
(stepping back)
You see, where I come from, no one treats a lady like that. We Cajuns treat the ladies wit’ respect.

Gambit winks at Rogue.

GAMBIT
You’re free to come wit’ me, chére.

Another man walks into the alley behind Gambit. He’s dressed in a pair of dark brown pants with a trench coat. This is HENRY “HANK” McCOY (BEAST), named so for the fact that he is covered in dark blue fur.

HANK
I agree with the lad, gentlemen.

MAN #3
You two are gonna stop us?

Gambit and Hank look at each other for a moment, then they look back at the men.

GAMBIT
Tha’s right.

BEAST
I’m afraid we will. But, of course, we don’t have to do this the hard way. You could just let the girl come with us. It’s really up to you.

Gambit’s still shuffling the deck of cards in his hands as he waits for an answer.

MAN #4
Well, we’re not gonna let that happen!

One of the five men charges at Gambit while another charges at Hank. Gambit takes another step back and throws one of his cards. The card explodes in mid air sending the man flying backwards. Hank jumps into the air and kicks his man backwards.

MAN #5
Get ‘im!

Hank smirks.

BEAST
I’m afraid your friends have deserted you.

The man spins around. Everyone else has vanished.

GAMBIT
Still feelin’ lucky?

The man takes off the other direction.

BEAST
So ignorant. Whatever happened to Southern hospitality?

Gambit smirks.

GAMBIT
Dunno ‘bout you, but Gambit still got plenty of that.

Gambit reaches down to Rogue.

GAMBIT
Here, chére.

He helps Rogue to her feet.

ROGUE
(blushing)
Th-thank you.

Gambit puts his arm around her.

BEAST
You’re safe now. We’re taking you with us.

Gambit, Rogue, and Beast exit the alley.

EXT. SKY

The X-Jet takes off.

EXT. XAVIER SCHOOL-DAY

The X-Jet lands beneath the basketball court. Everyone gets out.

INT. MANSION-FOYER

The new mutants sit down with BOBBY DRAKE.

KITTY PRYDE
They get you, too?

BOBBY DRAKE
Yeah, yesterday.

PROFESSOR CHARLES XAVIER enters the foyer. The X-Men go to stand behind them.

XAVIER
Welcome. I am Professor Charles Xavier. You are here, partly to learn how to use your abilities responsibly, in order to better humanity. But you are also here because your lives are threatened. Kitty, you were attacked by Sentinels when Scott and Jean came to get you.

Xavier looks at each of them.

XAVIER
These Sentinels have been prowling the country for a week, hunting and killing mutants. You are only the first of many that will need saving.

Suddenly, a loud blaring rings through the mansion.

CYCLOPS
The War Room!

XAVIER
No need. It’s Magneto.

INT. WAR ROOM

The X-Men enter.

XAVIER
It’s just as I feared. Magneto and the Brotherhood are attacking Washington, D.C.

JEAN GREY
How did you know, Professor?

XAVIER
Magneto and I have a unique psychic bond, Jean. I could sense it when he went there. I’ve been expecting this since the Sentinels showed up. Magneto could not take something like that so likely.

CYCLOPS
But he’s been underground for so long. Why now?

XAVIER
Why not now? Magneto is hoping to make a statement. I fear there is very little we can do to stop him succeeding now.

WOLVERINE
Then what are we sittin’ here yappin’ for?

Cyclops smiles.

CYCLOPS
X-Men, suit up.

INT. READY ROOM

The X-Men each don their uniforms, black leather with different color piping for each member. Beast wears a jacket and pants, rather than a jumpsuit, and no boots. Gambit wears his trench coat over his jumpsuit.

EXT. X-MANSION

The X-Jet takes off.

FADE OUT.

Episode 102- “Feared”

FADE IN:

EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT-EVENING

MAGNETO and his BROTHERHOOD OF MUTANTS attack the Washington monument. Magneto and POLARIS use their powers to send telephone poles at police. MYSTIQUE simply starts shooting at them, and TOAD uses his extensive martial arts skills to take on three of the police officers. COLOSSUS uses his brute strength to pummel them.

MAGNETO
Look at this! They send the Sentinels after us, and yet still their police try to arrest us!

POLARIS
This is getting old, Father. You promised me destruction.

Magneto smiles.

MAGNETO
And I shall give you destruction.

Magneto rises from the ground, spins to face the monument.

MAGNETO
I’ve been saving up for this.

Magneto stretches out with his arms, straining a great deal. The ground around the monument begins to crack and split.

EXT. SKY OVER MARYLAND-EVENING

The X-JET zooms toward Washington.

INT. X-JET

CYCLOPS pilots the jet, JEAN GREY in the copilot’s seat. Behind them are WOLVERINE, GAMBIT, STORM, and BEAST. Storm points.

STORM
Look!

GAMBIT
Damn. This guy’s got style.

Even from their altitude, the X-Men can see Magneto attempting to remove the monument from its foundations.

CYCLOPS
We gotta stop him. Jean, can you do anything?

JEAN GREY
Not something that big.

CYCLOPS
Storm, give us snow.

STORM
Coming right up.

Cyclops looks back to Wolverine.

CYCLOPS
Wolverine, you and Gambit ready to do a jump?

WOLVERINE
Thought you’d never ask. Let’s go, Gumbo.

Wolverine and Gambit get up, remove parachutes from over the hatch.

JEAN GREY
I’m opening the hatch now. Get ready.

GAMBIT
Always ready, chére.

JEAN GREY
You’re clear! Go!

Wolverine and Gambit jump out of the plane. Wolverine yells to Gambit.

WOLVERINE
Scared, Cajun?

GAMBIT
We don’t scare in N’Orleans, Logan!

Wolverine smiles. They plummet to the ground, activate their parachutes.

EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT

They land several hundred yards from where Magneto is.

WOLVERINE
Gonna have to run for it.

It begins to snow.

GAMBIT
Let’s make this quick, then, non?

They sprint to the monument.

Ahead of them, Magneto is nearly finished.

POLARIS
Father! Above you!

MAGNETO
What?

Beast lands on top of Magneto. The X-Jet hovers just feet above. Beast and Magneto fall to the ground.

MAGNETO
Ah, the X-Men. Arrived in the proverbial nick of time, I see.

BEAST
As always, Magneto.

Cyclops, Jean, and Storm arrive on the scene. An optic blast catches Polaris off guard, knocking her down.

Mystique joins Magneto.

MYSTIQUE
The blood traitors have arrived, Erik. What do we do them?

MAGNETO
You are merely an obstacle, Cyclops. But now, not even Charles’ precious students will stand in my way.

CYCLOPS
We’ll see about that.

Cyclops fires a blast at Mystique, but she dodges it, flipping over him and sticking a gun to Jean’s back.

JEAN GREY
Nice try.

Spinning around, Jean telekinetically sends the gun several yards away. She kicks Mystique squarely in the stomach. As Mystique falls, however, Toad leaps into Jean, knocking her down.

Wolverine and Gambit join Cyclops, still confronting Magneto.

MAGNETO
Ah. You’ve brought everyone, I see.

Magneto outstretches a hand. Wolverine levitates from the ground.

MAGNETO
You’re the weakest one up against me. You know that, don’t you?

Wolverine snarls.

MAGNETO
Against me, you’re nothing!

With a flick of the wrist, Magneto sends Wolverine flying yards away, right into the monument. Gambit fires a card at him, Cyclops an optic blast. Magneto stumbles back.

CYLCOPS
This isn’t the answer, Magneto! You know that!

MAGNETO
They’re not playing by your rules anymore, Mr. Summers! Or maybe you haven’t noticed the silver executioners marching across the country. You haven’t rescued every mutant, you know.

Magneto looks away, anger filling his face.

MAGNETO
Two of my children are missing. For all I know, they’re dead.

EXT. STREET

Storm and Beast are confronted by police officers.

STORM
Listen to us! We’re here to stop this!

One of the officers points a gun at the two.

POLICE OFFICER
Stand down!

BEAST
We’re not the ones you want!

STORM
We are the X-Men. We are here to stop Magneto from destroying this city. Please, let us help you.

POLICE OFFICER
We know what you are.

He lowers his gun.

POLICE OFFICER (cont’d)
The Sentinels are on their way.

EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT

Jean and Toad continue to spar. Toad proves much to agile for a hand to hand fight, but Jean manages to telekinetically knock him onto the ground. Repeatedly.

TOAD
Ah! Knock that off!

JEAN GREY
You first.

She lets him go. He falls to the ground. Rather than surrender, he snaps his tongue out, catching Jean around the ankle. She falls.

EXT. SKY

Six Sentinels fly through the buildings of Washington, landing on the monument grounds.

EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT

Magneto looks to the Sentinels.

MAGNETO
And the farce continues.

He faces Cyclops.

MAGNETO
Tell me, Scott: Who is wrong in this picture?

Wolverine trudges back over.

WOLVERINE
You’re both wrong. This violence ain’t gettin’ us anywhere fast.

MAGNETO
Have it your way. But the way I see it, there’s one easy way to stop these monstrosities.

Magneto knocks them both aside. He gestures emphatically, and the monument is unearthed. He sends it flying into the Sentinels. Only two dodge it; the rest are destroyed on impact.

EXT. STREET

The police and Storm and Beast look over.

POLICE OFFICER
Look out!

The group of police scrambles. Beast grabs Storm and leaps to safety as the wrecked Sentinels (and the Washington monument) skid to a halt in the middle of the street.

The police approach Magneto.

POLICE OFFICER
Open fire!
They begin shooting.

EXT. MONUMENT SITE

Magneto shakes his head.

MAGNETO
Fools.

He holds out his palm. The bullets stop before him. Magneto shouts to the police.

MAGNETO
I can let these fall to the ground.

Two or three of the bullets fall.

MAGNETO
Or I can send them right back at you.

A bullet speeds back, hitting one of the officers in the forehead.

MAGNETO
The choice is yours.

The police officer looks around at the others.

POLICE OFFICER
Drop your guns.

They do. Magneto smiles.

MAGNETO
A wise choice, officer.

The bullets fall to the ground.

MAGNETO
You see, Scott, I can be reasonable.

Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast, and Storm join Magneto.

CYCLOPS
You have a hell of a way of showing it.

WOLVERINE
We’re still takin’ you down tonight.

Magneto laughs.

MAGNETO
I’m sure you will. But my point, I fear, has already been made. That building represents the laws of this country. They’ve forgotten what it means to be lawful, and now the monument is gone.

STORM
And an innocent person dead.

MAGNETO
We all make sacrifices, Storm.

EXT. MONUMENT GROUNDS-ELSEWHERE

Gambit joins Jean in the fight against Toad. Toad picks up a fragmented lamppost and uses it to spar with Gambit, who uses his staff as defense. Toad tries to use his tongue again, but Gambit grabs him.

GAMBIT
Hold him still for me, Red.

Jean reaches out toward Toad, freezing him.

GAMBIT
Hope you enjoy this, mon frére.

Gambit charges Toad’s tongue. Jean winces. Toad wails, the shock sending him flying back several feet. Mystique runs over to him, extending a hand.

MYSTIQUE
Get up.

TOAD
Cajun bastard.

MYSTIQUE
Indeed.

EXT. MONUMENT GROUNDS

Jean and Gambit join the rest of the X-Men. Magneto rolls his eyes.

MAGNETO
You’re all together, I see.

Polaris steps to Magneto’s side.

POLARIS
What about the other two Sentinels?

The Sentinels have regrouped, and now approach the X-Men and what’s left of the Brotherhood.

MAGNETO
We eliminate them, my dear.

Magneto addresses the X-Men.

MAGNETO
You’ll forgive me, Cyclops, but I’m going to presume to give orders.

CYCLOPS
Not on your life.

MAGNETO
Try me. Polaris and I will take the one on the left. You all can do what you like with one on the right.

CYCLOPS
Fine.

Magneto smirks. He and Polaris ascend into the air, approaching the Sentinels.

Wolverine pops his claws.

WOLVERINE
Let’s rip it to shreds.

The X-Men charge the Sentinel. It stands at three times the height of Cyclops, the tallest of the X-Men.

WOLVERINE
You know what to do, Beast.

BEAST
Certainly, Logan.

Beast scoops up Wolverine, and tosses him into the Sentinel. Wolverine latches on to its head, and digs his claws into its “brain”. Cyclops barrages its midsection with optic blasts, while Jean holds Wolverine steady with her telekinesis. Storm hovers around its midsection, ready to zap it on Cyclops’ word.

Magneto and Polaris merely rip their Sentinel apart limb from limb. Colossus continues to fight them as well.

POLARIS
Look at how they work together, Father.

MAGNETO
It is their greatest strength, Lorna.

Magneto removes the Sentinel’s head.

MAGNETO
But even that is nothing compared to our strength.

POLARIS
They will prove versatile opponents.

MAGNETO
The Sentinels will not be seen after tonight. Not for a long time. We will strike again when the time is right, and nothing Charles can do will stop us.

Polaris smiles evilly.

Back with the X-Men, the Sentinel is very nearly beaten. It begins to topple.

CYCLOPS
It’s down, Storm! You and Jean steady it!

Wolverine leaps down, rolling to a stop.

Storm’s eyes go white, and she manipulates the wind to blow the Sentinel out of harm’s way. Jean keeps it steady.

CYCLOPS
Good work, people.

Magneto and Polaris stride over.

MAGNETO
Congratulations, X-Men, though that probably took slightly longer than it needed.

POLARIS
We do appreciate your assistance. If only we could work together on a more regular basis.

CYCLOPS
We don’t work with you, Polaris.

MAGNETO
We will always be here, Scott.

JEAN GREY
And we’ll always be here to stop you.

POLARIS
Noble thoughts.

She turns to Magneto.

POLARIS
Let’s go, before more humans arrive.

EXT. SKY

As though on cue, several SHIELD transport planes arrive over the monument grounds. NICK FURY parachutes down.

EXT. MONUMENT GROUNDS

Taking advantage of the surprise, Jean disables both Magneto and Polaris, using telekinesis to pin a tree over both of them. Colossus is gone.

Magneto grimaces.

MAGNETO
Of course. And when did you contact Commander Fury, Miss Grey?

JEAN GREY
Long enough ago that it didn’t matter what you did here tonight.

MAGNETO
Impressive.

Nick approaches Cyclops. The PRESIDENT is with him.

NICK FURY
Nice job, Slim. Coulda done without the property damage, but seein’ as it’s not your fault…

Nick calls over his shoulder.

NICK FURY
Get the plastic boys down here. We’re carting these two off.

He turns back to Cyclops.

NICK FURY
Shouldn’t there be three more?

CYCLOPS
They got away.

EXT. STREET

Mystique, Colossus, and Toad look on from behind the wrecked monument.

TOAD
Shouldn’t we be helping them?

MYSTIQUE
And get ourselves arrested, too? No. Erik planned for this. We’re more use to him on the outside. When the time’s right, he’ll tell us.

COLOSSUS
In the meantime?

MYSTIQUE
We recruit.

EXT. MONUMENT GROUNDS

Nick turns to the President.

NICK FURY
Mr. President, excuse my French, but even SHIELD is gonna have one hell of a time coverin’ this up. Not too many ways to explain the Washington monument blocking traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue.

PRESIDENT
We’ll come up with something.

The President turns to Cyclops and the X-Men.

PRESIDENT
Mr. Summers, is it?

The President extends his hand. Cyclops takes it.

CYCLOPS
That’s me, sir.

PRESIDENT
You have my gratitude for your actions tonight. I can’t speak for the whole country, strangely enough—but I know that I can sleep easier knowing that there’s a few good mutants out there. That if these people try something, you’ll be there to stop them. And it means a lot to me.

STORM
And the Sentinels?

PRESIDENT
Consider them a thing of the past. I’ll be making the executive order first thing in the morning recalling the Sentinels.

He chuckles.

PRESIDENT
Don’t worry. In government speak, that means we called them off five minutes ago.

Cyclops grins.

PRESIDENT
Normally, we have a thing about vigilantes…but you can consider yourselves exempt as long as I’m around. I ran it by with the proper authorities, and they’ve agreed to keep from arresting you on sight.

The President turns away.

PRESIDENT
We’ll be looking to you folks in the future. Keep up the good work.

Nick approaches Cyclops.

NICK FURY
I guess that means no cover up. Congratulations—you people really were here tonight.

Nick turns away.

NICK FURY
I’ll keep in touch.

As he leaves, Magneto and Polaris are put in plastic planes, and flown away.

Cyclops turns to the rest of the X-Men.

CYCLOPS
All things considered, this went pretty well.

BEAST
Agreed.

JEAN GREY
Guess it’s time to head back. We’ve got a bunch of kids to look after now.

GAMBIT
But the Sentinels are gone. They don’t gotta stay wit’ us anymore.

STORM
If only that were true.

WOLVERINE
Think about it, Cajun. Just ‘cause the President called off the Sentinels, don’t mean they magically go away. And even if they do, we still gotta worry about the people who made ‘em.

CYCLOPS
Those kids aren’t safe at home. I imagine Professor Xavier will be bringing a lot more in over the next few months.

STORM
It is our duty to protect them.

JEAN GREY
They’re the next generation.

WOLVERINE
They’ll turn out alright.

EXT. SKY

The X-Jet takes off.

EXT. TRISKELION

A SHIELD jet lands outside Triskelion, SHIELD’s high security prison complex, especially reserved for super villains.

INT. TRISKELION

PROFESSOR CHARLES XAVIER, now in a plastic wheelchair, is pushed by a SECURITY GUARD into the non-metal wing of Triskelion. He passes Polaris’ cell. She sits cross-legged in the middle of the floor, reading.

Xavier enters Magneto’s cell. Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” plays softly, a recording. Magneto is silent, sitting with his back to the entrance. His eyes are closed.

CHARLES
Erik.

Magneto does not move.

MAGNETO
Hello, Charles. Come to gloat?

CHARLES
What would I have to gloat about? The last thing I wish to see is you imprisoned. And despite appearances, you won last night.

MAGNETO
So you do realize what has just occurred.

CHARLES
The President is a good man. But the others are not. And they often prove to be more important. They understand exactly how far you will go.

MAGNETO
And how far is that, Charles?

CHARLES
Too far.

MAGNETO
Miss Grey gave quite the rousing speech last night. The X-Men will, “always be there stop me.”

CHARLES
Jean is a bright girl.

MAGNETO
It’s a pity that our lives parted ways so long ago, Charles.

CHARLES
Indeed it is, Erik.

MAGNETO
I suppose two stubborn old men cannot be expected to change their ways.

CHARLES
I should think not.

Magneto finally turns around.

MAGNETO
Then I think there is nothing left to be said. They won’t keep me here forever, Charles. Mystique will get me and my daughter out.

CHARLES
I have no doubt of that. But as Jean said, I will be here to stop whatever it is you’re planning.

MAGNETO
This has gone past diplomacy, Charles, and you’d do well to accept that. My way is all that’s left.

CHARLES
That, then, is where we part ways.

MAGNETO
If it must be so. Goodbye, old friend.

CHARLES
Goodbye, Erik.

The security guard enters the cell, and wheels Xavier out.

FADE OUT.

Episode 103- "Crawling"

A young 16 year old guy, BOBBY DRAKE (Iceman), is playing basketball with another New Mutant, JOHN ALLERDYCE (Pyro). They’re both dressed in a pair of shorts and a basketball jersey. Bobby checks the ball to John.

BOBBY
You ready?

John checks the ball back.

JOHN
If you’re ready to lose.

BOBBY
Cocky much?

JOHN
No, just better than you.

BOBBY
Fine. Next point wins, then.

John shrugs.

JOHN
Your loss.

Bobby checks the ball. Out of the corner of his eye, he notices that some spectators have arrived. Then he notices KITTY PRYDE standing next to JUBILATION LEE and ROGUE ADLER. Bobby speeds down the lane and attempts a crossover. He glances over at Kitty again. Within one second, he loses balance and wipes out. John scoops the ball away and shoots a three pointer for the win. John helps Bobby up.

JOHN
What’d I tell you?

John looks over to Kitty.

JOHN
Your head’s not in the game, that’s the problem.

BOBBY
I know.

He looks in Kitty’s direction and smiles.

JOHN
Just go and ask her out already, Iceman.

He pushes Bobby gently toward Kitty.

JOHN
I bet you a month’s dish duty you won’t do it.

BOBBY
Make it laundry too and you got a deal.

John scoffs.

JOHN
And smell your rank socks?

He looks back to Kitty.

JOHN
Yeah, like you’ll do it anyway. Deal.

They shake. Bobby turns and walks over to Jubilee, Kitty, and Rogue. Jubilee and Rogue notice Bobby coming over.

BOBBY
Hey.

JUBILEE
Hey. That was a good game. At least, until you wiped out. That wasn’t because you were paying attention to something else, was it?

Bobby laughs nervously and scratches the back of his head.

BOBBY
Uh…no.

He smiles.

BOBBY
Is it okay if I borrow Kitty for a minute?

Jubilee and Rogue take the hint.

ROGUE
Actually, Jubilee and ah have a to finish a project for…

Rogue draws blank. Jubilee quickly finishes.

JUBILEE
Art. We have to finish a project for art.

KITTY
We don’t take art.

ROGUE
Maybe you don’t.

She takes Jubilee by the arm.

ROGUE
We’ll see you guys later.

They quickly leave. Kitty looks around awkwardly.

KITTY
So.

BOBBY
Yeah.

They walk toward the mansion.

BOBBY
Uh…do you have any plans for tomorrow.

Kitty blushes.

KITTY
No. Why?

They both stop walking.

BOBBY
Well, uh…I was wondering if, maybe, y’know, you’d like to…go out. Or something.

Kitty’s face begins to turn a bright red now.

KITTY
Sure.

BOBBY
Okay. Great.

His watch beeps.

BOBBY
Ah…Miss Grey’s gonna kill me for being late. Again.

He quickly looks up at Kitty again.

BOBBY
So, I’ll talk to you later.

Kitty nods.

KITTY
Yeah.

She watches as Bobby runs into the mansion.

INT. GIRL’S DORM

Kitty sits on her bed looking at a couple of magazines. She hears a knock on her door.

KITTY
Yeah!

She turns the page in her magazine as Jubilee and Rogue enter.

JUBILEE and ROGUE
Hey.

KITTY
What’s up?

Jubilee flops onto Kitty’s bed, and Rogue hops into a bean bag chair in the corner of the room.

JUBILEE
So?

KITTY
So what?

JUBILEE
So, what did Bobby say?!

Kitty shrugs.

KITTY
I dunno. We didn’t talk that long.

She becomes much more interested in her magazine, her cheeks turning pink.

ROGUE
He said somethin’. Lookit her face.

Kitty groans.

KITTY
If you really must know, we’re going out tomorrow.

ROGUE
About time.

She picks up a magazine as well.

JUBILEE
Did he say where?

KITTY
No. We’ll talk later. He was late for Red’s class.

Jubilee and Rogue exchange significant glances.

KITTY
What?

ROGUE
Nothin’.

Kitty tosses the magazine aside.

KITTY
Alright, enough about me and Bobby. What’s up with you and Remy, Rogue?

Rogue’s head jolts up from the magazine.

ROGUE
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. He’s too old for me!

JUBILEE
And that’s why your face is bright red, right?

Rogue throws a pillow at Jubilee.

INT. HALLWAY

Bobby walks down the hallway after class. JEAN GREY follows him.

JEAN GREY
Bobby? Can I talk to you for a minute?

Bobby keeps walking, in a daze. Jean shakes her head.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Bobby. Can I talk to you for a minute?

Bobby jumps.

BOBBY
Holy--!

He turns.

BOBBY
Sorry. Takes some getting used to.

JEAN
For how often I need to wake you up in class, you should be well used to it by now.

Bobby looks down.

JEAN
Are you feeling okay?

BOBBY
Yeah. Just thinking.

JEAN
Well, you were “just thinking” for forty-five minutes back there. What’s up?

BOBBY
Uh…I kinda have a date tomorrow.

JEAN
Hmm-mmm. Come with me.

They walk down the hall.

INT. GARAGE

SCOTT SUMMERS works on his motorcycle. He stops as the door opens, and looks up to see Jean and Bobby.

SCOTT
Hey, Jean.

JEAN
Hey, yourself.

Bobby looks out of place.

JEAN
(telepathically, to Scott)
Mr. Drake has a date tomorrow, Scott.

Scott looks at Bobby and smirks a bit.

JEAN
(telepathically, to Scott)
Since you didn’t ask me ‘til you were twenty, I figure you remember enough about the first date to help him.

The smirk goes away.

SCOTT
Hey!

Jean smiles.

JEAN
I’ll leave you two boys to talk.

She exits the garage. Scott looks at Bobby and gets up from his knees.

SCOTT
You have a date tomorrow?

Bobby shuffles his feet.

BOBBY
Yeah.

SCOTT
Well then, between you and me, the hard part’s over.

BOBBY
Well, I guess…But I have no idea where to take her.

SCOTT
Movie and dinner?

BOBBY
Everyone does that. I want this to be special.

He stops for a second.

BOBBY
Where did you and Miss Grey go for your first date?

SCOTT
Life or death battle with Mystique.

Bobby’s eyes widen.

SCOTT
Life here’s not exactly normal.

BOBBY
No kidding.

SCOTT
Well…the circus is town. You could always try that.

BOBBY
The circus?

Pause.

BOBBY
Were you ever a normal kid?

Scott is taken back by this question.

SCOTT
Sarcasm. Nice. You got any better suggestions?

BOBBY
I guess not.

Bobby turns to leave.

SCOTT
Hey.

Bobby turns back around.

SCOTT
Who’s the lucky lady?

BOBBY
Oh…Kitty. Kitty Pryde.

Scott nods.

SCOTT
Well…off you go.

BOBBY
Thanks for the help.

SCOTT
Any time.

Bobby leaves.

EXT. CIRCUS-EVENING

Bobby and Kitty walk toward the circus tent.

BOBBY
She blushed?

Kitty smiles.

KITTY
Yeah. She kinda has a thing for him.

BOBBY
Wow. He’s gotta be a lot older than her.

KITTY
No, he’s only eighteen. Rogue’s almost seventeen, so…really, not that big a deal. But he’s an X-Man, and it kinda weirds her out, I guess.

On the way to the tent, they pass a game booth. Spotting it, Bobby grabs Kitty’s arm.

BOBBY
Come on.

He leads her over to the game.

The carnie running the game sets three balls on the countertop. The game is a typical carnival game, where one knocks down a pyramid of bottles, and wins a prize.

CARNIE
Knock down the bottles, win your choice.

Bobby places three quarters on the counter, and grabs the first ball. Short. He tries again, but misses by a hair. Kitty touches his arm.

KITTY
It’s okay if you don’t win.

Bobby looks at her a second, then picks up the final ball. Hiding his hand from the carnie, he freezes it just a bit, then throws it. He knocks down all the bottles. Kitty smiles.

Gesturing to the stuffed animals behind him, the carnie says:

CARNIE
Any one you want.

A decent sized purple dragon catches Kitty’s eye. She points to it.

KITTY
That one.

The carnie hands her the dragon. Taking the dragon in one hand and Bobby’s hand in the other, she leads Bobby back to the circus tent. She turns and hugs him.

KITTY
Thank you.

BOBBY
So what’re you gonna name it?

Kitty looks at the dragon for a second, thinking, then looks back to Bobby.

KITTY
Lockheed. His name’s Lockheed.

BOBBY
Lockheed? That’s original.

KITTY
Thanks again.

She leans over and kisses him on the cheek. Bobby smiles and puts his arm around her.

BOBBY
You’re welcome.

They enter the tent, passing a poster with a picture of a demonic looking performer on it, with the text “THE INCREDIBLE NIGHTCRAWLER”.

INT. CIRCUS TENT

Kitty and Bobby take their seats. The lights go down, and a spotlight appears in the center ring.

RINGMASTER
Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages! I give you…the Incredible Nightcrawler!

The spotlight swings up high, near the ceiling, where stands the seventeen-year-old KURT WAGNER. His skin is dark blue, his eyes yellow. A tail protrudes from the back of his red and block costume. He waves to the audience, then leaps to the a swing in the center of the tent.

RINGMASTER
And now…remove the nets!

Several CREW MEMBERS take the nets away. Kurt takes a deep breath, and swings from one swing to the next. He grabs a third with his tail, then swings upward. He falls, fast, nearly hitting the ground.

Then he disappears. The audience gasps, then applauds as he reappears on the platform from which he started, bowing deeply.

Suddenly, the tent tears below Kurt, as a large fat man and several carnies enter the floor. The audience claps at first, until the man, the BLOB, knocks out the ringmaster and takes his microphone.

BLOB
Lissen up! This is the Blob, and his circus gang! We’re comin’ around, and we want all the money and jewels you got!

BLOB’S CARNIES file through the stands. Bobby nudges Kitty.

BOBBY
(whispering)
Let’s go.

KITTY
Right.

They quickly get up. One of Blob’s carnies swings the spotlight over to them.

BLOB
What’s this? Some punk-ass kids think they can get away?!

Bobby and Kitty spin around as carnies approach them from both sides. Suddenly, Kurt teleports in between them, grabs them both, and teleports away again.

BLOB
Hey! Where’d they go?!

EXT. CIRCUS TENT-EVENING

Kurt, Bobby, and Kitty reappear outside the tent.

KITTY
Omigod. What just happened?

When Kurt answers, a light German accent is detectable.

KURT
I’m sorry to have startled you. I didn’t want you to get hurt.

BOBBY
You…you’re a mutant too, aren’t you?

KURT
Yes. I joined the circus to hide from people who…

KITTY
Who what?

KURT
In my hometown, Munich…people thought that I was a demon. They tried to kill me.

KITTY
Oh my God, that’s awful.

KURT
So…if you know what mutants are, then are you mutants, too?

BOBBY
Yup.

KITTY
Uh, guys? The time for talking may be over.

She points to the Blob, who is now approaching.

BLOB
So, some mutie kids tryin’ to escape. My pals can handle the baselines in there, but I wanna take you guys out ‘specially.

KITTY
“Muties”? Are you kidding me?! No one could be that enormously fat without being a mutant!

Bobby touches her shoulder.

BOBBY
Whoa, down girl.

BLOB
What did you say to me?!

Blob charges at Kitty, who runs right toward him and phases through him.

KITTY
Oh, gross!

BLOB
This is gonna be fun!

Bobby shoots a jet of ice at the ground under Blob’s feet. Blob trips and falls, shaking the ground.

BLOB
No fair!

Blob gets up. Kurt teleports onto his back and covers Blob’s eyes with his three-fingered hands.

KURT
Peek-a-boo!

Blob reaches up and tosses Kurt away. Kitty runs up behind him and tries to push him. Blob turns and laughs at her.

BLOB
Nothing moves the Blob!

KITTY
No kidding.

Bobby speeds by on an ice slide and scoops Kitty up.

BOBBY
Not where you wanna be.

Kitty kisses him on the cheek.

KITTY
Thanks.

Suddenly, wind whips around everyone.

KITTY
Storm!

Jean Grey and ORORO MUNROE descend from the sky. Storm’s eyes burn white as she manipulates the weather around her.

STORM
Blob, is it?

The wind pummels Blob, threatening to move him. Soon, snow and hail join it, pelting him. He grimaces, but remains firmly planted in place. Jean extends her hand and concentrates hard. Slowly, Blob lifts a half inch off the round. It is enough. Storm’s winds send him flying yards away, crashing into a nearby booth.

JEAN
Bobby! Freeze him!

Bobby extends his hand, and ice restrains Blob to the ground. Jean sits, visibly strained.

JEAN
Well, that’s that.

She smiles weakly at Bobby and Kitty.

JEAN (cont’d)
You guys are way too old for chaperones, you know that?

Kitty smiles bashfully.

KITTY
We were kinda holding our own, don’t you think?
Ororo steps next to Kitty and puts an arm around her.

STORM
That you did, Kitten. I’m very proud of you. But, try to stay out of trouble until you’re better trained.

BOBBY
No arguments there.

Jean gets up and goes over to Kurt.

JEAN
What’s your name?

KURT
Kurt Wagner. Here, they call me Nightcrawler…but I’m not sure I’ll have a job, now that they know I’m a mutant.

KITTY
Wait a minute—Storm, there’s people in there still! Blob’s guys are robbing them!

JEAN
Don’t worry, Kitty—we took care of the first.

ORORO
Blob’s men have already been arrested, while you were out here fighting Blob.

BOBBY
Wait—then that means…

JEAN
I said you were too old for chaperone, Bobby.

She claps him on the shoulder.

JEAN
You guys did good.

She turns back to Kurt.

JEAN
Kurt, you’re welcome to come back with us. Storm and I teach at a school for people like us. For mutants.

Kitty lights up.

KITTY
You could come to school with us! It’d be great!

BOBBY
And there’s a definite shortage of male students. John and me’d be happy to have you around.

Kurt smiles.

KURT
How could I refuse?

KITTY
So, uh…how did you guys get here?

STORM
The jet’s around on the other side.

BOBBY
Great. For a second I thought we were walking back to Westchester.

The X-Men all walk away.

FADE OUT.

EXT. ORORO’S GARDENS-NIGHT

It is misting outside. ROGUE ADLER and REMY LEBEAU walk, hand in hand, through the gardens. Rogue’s hand is gloved.

REMY
This is nice.

ROGUE
Yeah.

They stop. Remy leans in for a kiss. They come close, each one’s breath visible. Rogue suddenly pulls away.

ROGUE
No…ah can’t, Remy.

REMY
I’m not scared, chére.

ROGUE
But ah am.

Rogue turns away.

ROGUE
Ah wish ah could touch you, Remy. But…the first boy ah kissed went into a coma for three weeks. An’ that was only a few months ago. Ah almost killed a man the day you rescued me.

Remy comes closer, pulls her toward him.

REMY
Maybe you can control it?

ROGUE
Ah know ah can’t.

She breaks away and turns.

ROGUE
Ah’m sorry, Remy.

She walks away.

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY

PROFESSOR CHARLES XAVIER sits at his desk, fingers forming a steeple at his chin. Lost in thought.

EXT. TRISKELION-DAY-YEARS AGO

Establishing shot.

INT. TRISKELION

NICK FURY pushes Xavier down a hall. They arrive at…

INT. JUGGERNAUT HOLDING AREA

…and come to a stop.

FURY
Here we are. Strong enough to hold the Hulk.

He looks down at Xavier.

FURY
Sure you want this?

XAVIER
It’s the only way to stop him, Nick.

FURY
Agreed. Didn’t think you saw things that clear, is all.

He claps Xavier on the shoulder.

FURY
Got a new respect for you, Chuck.

In the cell, CAIN MARKO, SHIELD codename “the JUGGERNAUT”, is chained to a wall, howling in anger. Fury leaves.


XAVIER
I’m sorry, Cain. I wish I could do more for my brother.

Cain glares at Xavier.

XAVIER
But you never did want my help, did you?

Xavier turns and wheels himself out of the room as Cain struggles against his bonds.

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY-NOW

Xavier sits in silence.

INT. GIRL’S DORM

Rogue enters. KITTY PRYDE, BOBBY DRAKE, and JUBILATION LEE all look up. Jubilee sits in the bean bag chair, while Kitty and Bobby sit on Kitty’s bed.

JUBILEE
So, how’d it go?

ROGUE
Awful.

KITTY
What? Why?

Before Rogue can respond, there’s a knock on the door.

JUBILEE
Come in!

The door opens, and JEAN GREY enters the room. She looks sternly at Bobby.

JEAN
Mr. Drake, would you care to tell me what time it is?

BOBBY
Uh…

He looks at his watch.

BOBBY
…no, not really, no.

JEAN
Uh-uh. For future reference, rooming with a teleporter does not mean you can sneak into the girls’ dorm after curfew.

Bobby gets up.

BOBBY
Sorry, Miss Grey. G’night, Kitty.

Bobby walks past Jean, who pulls his ear as he walks past.

BOBBY
Ow!

JEAN
Good night, girls.

KITTY
Night, Miss Grey.

Jean leaves. Bobby is still in the hallway.

JEAN
Bed. Now.

From behind Jean: BAMF!

Jean turns to see KURT WAGNER materialize behind her.

KURT
Bobby, you—oh. Miss Grey.

JEAN
Caught you red-handed.

Kurt puts on a most guilty look. Jean shakes her head.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Boys.

She continues to shake her head as she walks away. Kurt prepares to teleport the two of them away.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Go back the normal way, boys.

Bobby turns.

BOBBY
It’s in a whole ‘nother wing.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Do it. I’ll know if you don’t.

Bobby and Kurt begin to walk.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Hey! You are aware that I’m a telepath, Mr. Drake?
Since I’m doing it right now? Watch your thoughts.

Sighing profusely, Bobby and Kurt return to their dorm.

INT. GIRL’S DORM

Rogue climbs into bed.

KITTY
Really, Rogue, what happened?

ROGUE
He tried to kiss me.

JUBILEE
Oh, horror of all horrors, Adler. A hottie totally wants to make out with you.

Rogue glares at her.

JUBILEE
Sorry.

ROGUE
These powers suck. Ah wish ah could just get rid of them.

KITTY
Don’t say that.

ROGUE
What? Ya’ll can touch people, no problem. Me…ah’ll never be able to touch anybody. Ever. Know how that feels?

Kitty gets up.

KITTY
No.

Kitty phases, then touches Rogue’s arm.

KITTY
And neither should you.

Rogue puts her hand through Kitty’s arm.

ROGUE
Oh ma God. Ah can’t believe it…

KITTY
See…maybe there’s other things you can touch, too.

Rogue smiles.

ROGUE
Maybe. Maybe one day ah’ll even be able to control ‘em.

JUBILEE
Mm-hmm. And when you can, you better be all over that Remy, ‘cause if you’re not, I will be.

Rogue laughs.

ROGUE
Shut up, Jubes!

INT. BOY’S DORM

JOHN ALLERDYCE sits watching TV as Bobby and Kurt enter.

JOHN
Snagged?

BOBBY
You can say that again.

JOHN
I’d love to. You got caught.

BOBBY
We get it, John.

JOHN
Told you: you guys are way too goody-goody to pull something like that off.

KURT
I’m no goody-goody!

John scoffs.

JOHN
Okay.

He flicks his lighter.

JOHN
When you guys’ve been through half of what I have, then we’ll talk.

BOBBY
‘Cause you’re so tough.

John looks at him.

JOHN
Guess you’ll never know.

He turns off the TV, then gets up.

JOHN
I’m going to get some food.

KURT
But Miss Grey will be patrolling the halls now!

JOHN
Like that’ll stop me?

John leaves. Bobby looks after him.

BOBBY
He’s gonna get himself into trouble one day.

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY

Xavier picks up his phone.

XAVIER
You said Commander Fury had a message.

FURY (V.O.)
This is Fury.

INT. FURY’S OFFICE

Fury sits at his desk, feet propped up, smoking a cigar.

FURY
You’ve had us on hold for so long, you caught me comin’ in for the morning shift.

XAVIER (V.O.)
I apologize…

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY

XAVIER (cont’d)
…but you know that there are only two reasons you’d be calling me in regards to Triskelion. Neither is pleasant.

FURY (V.O.)
You ain’t kiddin’.

XAVIER
So, which is it?

FURY (V.O.)
Well, it ain’t Magneto. He’s still safe and sound in his plastic dollhouse.

INT. FURY’S OFFICE

FURY
It’s your brother. Cain got out tonight. Not sure how. Figured you could use a heads up.

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY

XAVIER
Indeed. I’ll wake the others. Thank you, Nick.

EXT. MANHATTAN-NIGHT

Establishing shot.

EXT. RUNDOWN BOARDING HOUSE-NIGHT

One of the lights is on. A woman’s silhouette is visible.

INT. BOARDING HOUSE

MYSTIQUE stands by the window. On the couch are TOAD and COLOSSUS. Standing off to the side is Cain Marko.

MYSTIQUE
I kept up my end of the bargain, Marko. Though I doubt you need much incentive to go after your brother.

Cain grunts.

MYSTIQUE
So eloquent. Go. The X-Men can’t know that we’re still active—you, on the other hand…well, they have no idea that you’re with us. Though I’m sure that twit Fury has warned Xavier by now.

COLOSSUS
You don’t think I should go with him?

MYSTIQUE
No. We can’t play our hand too early. Everything needs to be exactly right for this whole thing to work.

She turns to Cain.

MYSTIQUE
You know what to do.

Cain nods, then turns to leave.

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY

CYCLOPS, Jean Grey, STORM, BEAST, Gambit, and WOLVERINE enter the study.

CYCLOPS
What is it, Professor?

XAVIER
I have something very important to tell you all. A secret that I’ve kept for far too long. You see…I have a brother.

EXT. THE XAVIER MANSION-HALF A CENTURY AGO

A young Charles runs around under the watchful eye of his mother, SHARON. KURT MARKO joins her off-camera, and a young Cain stands at his side.

XAVIER (V.O.)
My father died when I was a boy, and it wasn’t much after that when my mother was remarried to one of her colleagues, Kurt Marko. Kurt had a son from a prior marriage named Cain.

CYCLOPS (V.O.)
So he’s only your stepbrother?

XAVIER (V.O.)
Yes, though the distinction matters little.

Kurt turns to Cain.

KURT
Cain, why don’t you go play with your brother?

CAIN
That kid ain’t my brother. He ain’t even related to me.

Sharon places a hand on Kurt’s shoulder.

SHARON
It’s alright, Kurt. He’s just having trouble adjusting.

INT. CAIN’S ROOM

Kurt throws Cain over the bed and beats him with a belt.

XAVIER (V.O.)
Though I was never meant to know, I soon discovered that Cain was abused by his father.

Young Charles opens the door. Kurt stops and turns to him.

XAVIER (V.O.)
For my mother’s sake, he dared not treat me the same.

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY-NOW

XAVIER
Out of fear, I kept the encounter a secret. I realize now that I could not have been more wrong. I did more damage by keeping silent than Kurt could ever have done to me.

STORM
What happened to Cain?

XAVIER
As it turned out, Cain was also a mutant. He grew to an extremely large size—all muscle, nothing like the Blob that you encountered—and developed super-strength. Kurt’s abuse had psychologically damaged him, and he became violent.

At first, it was just small things, theft and such. I always thought I could save him, but Cain would never have it. He began to resort to murder. It was then I realized that there was only one way to rectify my mistake, and I called Commander Fury.

Xavier locks eyes with each X-Man.

XAVIER
Until tonight, Cain was safely locked away in Triskelion.

WOLVERINE
He escaped?

XAVIER
Yes. And I fear he is on his way here. Cain placed his hatred for his Kurt onto me, for reasons I’ve never entirely understood. He’s dangerous.

The wall behind Xavier’s desk crashes in. Cain charges through, stopping just behind Xavier.

CAIN
And he’s here!

The X-Men all take a battle ready stance.

INT. KITCHEN

John enters the kitchen and goes over to the fridge. He hears a loud BANG!

JOHN
What the hell?

INT. XAVIER’S STUDY

Cain towers over Xavier. Wolverine pops his claws.

WOLVERINE
You wanna tussle, bub, you’re gonna have ta go through me!

CAIN
Go ahead, runt!

Wolverine howls and leaps toward Cain, who simply swats him away and into a bookshelf. Cyclops tries to blast him, but his beam bounces off harmlessly. Cain charges through the X-Men and crashes through the door.

Jean begins to get up from the floor.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Kids!

INT. GIRL’S DORM

Rogue, Kitty, and Jubilee become alert.

JEAN
(telepathically)
Get into the Danger Room!

INT. HALLWAY

Gambit and Beast chase after Cain.

GAMBIT
This should stop him.

Gambit pulls out an Ace of Hearts and charges it. He flings it at Cain, and it explodes upon Cain’s back. Cain turns.

CAIN
That tickled.

BEAST
Cain, listen to me—

CAIN
Maybe you ain’t heard, furball—they’re callin’ me the Juggernaut now.

BEAST
--whatever problem you have with your brother, it can be reasoned! There’s no need for all this destruction!

CAIN
Then you just don’t know me, huh?

Cain rushes Gambit, who leaps over him. Beast slides under Cain, tripping him. Cain falls with a loud CRASH!

INT. HALLWAY-FURTHER DOWN

John steps into the hallway and sees Cain, Gambit, and Beast down the hall. Jean runs out of Xavier’s study and sees him.

JEAN
John! Didn’t you get my message? Get into the Danger Room, now!

JOHN
I can help fight this guy!

John begins to run toward Cain. Jean extends her hand, and John stops in his tracks.

JEAN
Turn around now, or I make you. Now is not the time to play hero, John.

John glares at her, immobile.
INT. DANGER ROOM

The girls join Bobby and Kurt in the Danger Room.

KITTY
Where’s John?

BOBBY
I dunno. He went out for food.

The door opens again. John enters.

BOBBY
John! What’s going on?

JOHN
Some big guy smashed through Xavier’s office.

Silence.

KURT
So…that happens a lot around here, then?

INT. HALLWAY

Beast flies back into a wall, leaving a sizeable dent. Wolverine charges Cain from behind, claws first. Cain shouts out in pain. Wolverine withdraws his claws, and Cain turns and punches him out.

Storm steps into the hall, and a gust of wind rushes through the hallway. Storm’s eyes go white.

CAIN
Huh?

STORM
If you will not be reasoned with, then you will leave.

The lights flicker out.

STORM
It’s up to you, Cain.

Suddenly, flashlights pierce the darkness.


VOICE
Everybody down!

Cain turns to see Commander Nick Fury with two SHIELD SOLDIERS.

FURY
Where’s Xavier?

Xavier wheels out of his office.

XAVIER
Here.

CAIN
That’s enough…I’m gonna—hey!

Cain tries to move, but he is stuck in place.

CYCLOPS
Jean…?

Cyclops turns. Jean leans against the wall, sweating and panting, her arm extended.

JEAN
Hurry, Nick…I don’t know how long I can hold him.

FURY
(to soldiers) Cuff him.

The soldiers apprehend Cain and begin to take him away. Cain shouts over his shoulder:

CAIN
This ain’t over, Charles! You can’t hide behind these guys forever! You an’ me, one on one—s’only a matter of time!

FURY
Yeah, yeah.

He turns to Xavier.

FURY
A word in private?


XAVIER
Anything that needs to be said, can be said in front of my X-Men.

Xavier smiles faintly at Scott.

FURY
Alright, then. We’re thinkin’ that this wasn’t an accident. Someone sprung Juggernaut. There’s a short list of people who’d wanna do that, an’ SHIELD’s goin’ through it as we speak.

INT. MAGNETO’S CELL

MAGNETO sits, in silence, eyes closed, in his plastic prison.

FURY (cont’d, V.O)
But Triskelion’s supposed to be impenetrable. Something’s fishy. The idea of someone springing someone from that place makes me nervous, an’ I don’t scare easy.

Suddenly, Magneto’s eyes open. Slowly, faintly, a smile comes to his lips.

FADE TO BLACK.

FURY (cont’d, V.O.)
Something’s coming, I can feel it. I just hope we’re ready for it.

XAVIER (V.O.)
As do I, Commander. As do I.
