I think that there is enough room for the X-Men mythology to create a live action tv show that's seperate from the X-Men films that have or are going to be released. Would be a great way to adapt storylines and characters that the films just won't be able to because of time constraints.

What do you guys think?

I am surprised they havent tried to do a live action Xmen tvshow nowadays but I dont think it is something that Marvel is interested in doing and they probably think it would be to high of a budget to do.

Well, remember Marvel did produce Mutant X. The concept was pretty much X-Men (they even had a redheaded telepath who was pretty much the most focal character), but it doesn't make any relation between in and the Marvel/X-Men universe.

Their best bet would be to do a New Mutants series, and not have to worry about including any of the main characters from the films. Furthermore, I'd center it around recent graduates of the Xavier Institute who decide to live together in some random city (so they can film in Vancouver!), and have their adventures seem random, but have them lead to a greater threat. I can already see subsequent X-Films not tackling certain villains, and you could easily use some of them for a show. Sinister, even Apocalypse, would be fantastic.

There's definitely potential for a certain kind of X-Series on television.

The budget would be too high for a proper X-Men series, which is why it will never happen.

Eh. I think it can be done, with some limitations of course (no fully iced-up Iceman, for instance). The special effects in the first two seasons of Heroes looked great IMO. That would be a good way to go. But, you know, with better story.

They did in 1996

Ya I know about GenX, was talking about in the present day.

If Fox was able to afford Heroes for the number of seasons it had and is able to afford shows like Fringe, then they could afford doing an X-Men series. Obviously the graphics, costumes, & some other things aren't going to be as large or expensive as the movies but they could definitely do ones that are good enough for television. Plus they would have Marvel to back them up as far as budget as well, and it would also just be another great venue/way to promote the X-Men Movies when they're coming out (and other Marvel films). Plus, if the series became popular (which I'm sure it would be), then there would probably be a lot of merchandise to sell. So it wouldn't do anything but make both Fox and Marvel a lot more money.

Fox didn't do Heroes, that was NBC.

Honestly, I would rather see Superhero shows done on Cable (Showtime, HBO, now Starz) than crappy, cheap, interfering networks.

I think comic book adaptations, story wise, could work better as TV shows rather than movies. Budget concerns aside, of course.

Comic books can range between episodic stories to longer arcs, which is a freedom you have on TV that you don't for movies. TV can introduce minor characters and minor villains, whereas in movies you're restricted to only having big central villains as the antagonists. In TV, characters can be recurring, whereas the narrative structure of movies practically demand that the villain dies or is gone indefinitely at the end of the film.

I think the X-universe could totally work as a TV show. Think about the first movie: most of the powers are hand-to-hand combat based or telepathy based (for argument's sake, Magento's power is a form of telekinesis). None of those powers are outside the FX budget of a TV show. The only real big budget powers in X-men 1 were Storm's and Mystique's. The former you can do without, since a TV show is likely to focus on second-tier mutants, and there are practical ways to manage your "morphing budget."

A live action show based around X-factor, X-force or New Mutants could work in this context.

The effects shouldn't be too out there...

Nightcrawler- Give him a holo-watch like he had in Evolution and have half his scenes in civvies. A rubber or animatronic tail shouldn't be too pricey. Teleporting effects are simple, the actor should be a trained acrobat and cut down on maybe 2 or 3 teleporting acrobatics scenes a la the White House attack for the first season.

Cyclops- CGI beam & controlled explosions. Boom. Done.

Storm- CGI Lightening, giant off-set fan, rain sPrinklers, stage lights, camera lenses, contact lenses, wire crew.

Colossus- Prosthetic mask & arms.

Wolverine- Seems simple, but according to Jackman, those claws were a hazard to work with and cgi claws just looks silly.

I'd rather see a Marvel Universe series that is IN continuity with the movies, but maybe focuses on characters not big enough to be in the actual films. Therefore, the title X-Men would be out...but maybe name it after one of the spin-offs (though I'd be more up for the title Marvels...with interwoven character arcs an a central growing threat.)

If you can do smallville you can do this. I would be interested in an all new group of recent graduates or actually following continuity with a first class style but they'll never do it because it would be better than the crappy movies ;)
