X3 Box Office Tracker

Oh hell yeah 450 is a no brainer with an easy 20-22 million from Japan if not more + whatever loose change China brings. 460-465 is my target. Because we should still make another 5-7 million domestic as well.
Yeah Japan is definitely one of the important foreign markets. I was worried that the extreme lateness of the release might hurt the figures with all the potential downloading etc.

he 250 Million & up is part of pretty much the whole package. Of all these years in development hell :o Thats not the actual Superman Returns Budget

People keep forgetting that

It's silly to add that to the budget. SR should stand on his own. WB wasted that money on movies that were never made.
Fox did the same with x-1 before Singer was chosen, but that was never taken into consideration.

I think that X3 is doing pretty well, considering (and we have already talked about it here) that the X-Men movies are less family friendly than other franchises such as PotC, Spider-Man, HP, and Pixar/Disney cartoons, and also have less appeal than LotR, for instance, to older adults. So, considering this, I really think it would be almost impossible for X3 to reach more than 300 million in the US, and more than 300 million in the international market. X3 numbers are very realistic, but also very good.

Exactly...the X-Men movies have never been the dominating summer blockbuster. They still have money to make internationally, not to mention DVD...however many versions they plan on releasing. Plus they're moving forward with the Wolverine spinoff, with more planned.

Now, about SR...I always believed Superman to be a more family friendly superhero too, like Spidey. I really don´t want to comment about the movie, since I haven´t seen it and don´t plan to. But something must be keeping this potentially big audience away from the cinemas. Maybe the length of the movie? The story? I don´t know...it´s really strange what´s happening to SR so far...

Well, if you get a chance, definitely see SR. I thought it was great.

Judging by my friends, who have small kids...I think Superman's running time might hurt, there really aren't many action sequences to keep their attention as well. But then again, when I saw it in IMAX this weekend, the kids seemed to like it.

Spiderman, on the other hand...that's the most popular with the kids. My cousin is 4 and knows who Spiderman is, and he hasn't even seen the movies. He's probably the most crowd-pleasing of all the superheroes out there.

Yes, the numbers are great here, and I think X3 still has more money to make on July vacations, even with Pirates and Super.
Everybody I talked to also enjoyed it very much...the majority even enjoyed it more than X2. Yesterday I watched it for the fifth time and there was a family, mother, father and two kids, who stayed until the end to watch the final scene. I waited to see their reaction, and they were like "Ah, they´ll make a X4!" and they seemed very happy about the idea... :D

My brother-in-law finally saw it, he said it was "*****n' awesome." Another friend of mine saw it for the 2nd time this weekend. I only know one person who wasn't crazy about it, the rest liked it fine. Not a very accurate gauge, of course...but for me, that works.

I don´t know...when I heard that Bryan had abandoned X-Men for SR, my first thought was "I swear I´ll never watch that movie!", lol!
But you have good taste, danoyse (hey, Hugh fans always have the best taste!:D), so I trust your judgment that SR is good. But I still don´t know if I want to watch it! :p

I agree...no one beats Spidey when it comes to popularity among kids, even the little ones. Plus, there are Spidey-things everywhere you look, it´s amazing! I haven´t seen anything X-related in the stores so far, only the Burger King toys.
But I always thought Super to be also very popular among kids, because he´s THE definition of what a superhero is...but maybe SR is really too long and difficult for the smaller ones. The same happened with Hulk, I can´t imagine kids enjoying that movie.

Well, the opinion of our friends and relatives is as good as that of annoying critics, or rabbid fanboys, isn´t it? Works for me too! :)

hey do you guys think x3 can still make another 4 million domestic and pass war of the worlds domestically?(it is 230m now and wotw is 234m)

How much has it made so far now? I haven't been catching up. :)

Buena Vista International (BVI) has a big weekend lined up with six scheduled international launches for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

The adventure sequel sets sail in three major markets - Australia on Jul 6, the UK on Jul 7, and South Korea on Jul 8 - as well as New Zealand and Thailand on Jul 6, and Taiwan on Jul 8.

The day-and-date launch with North America will doubtless generate a string of mighty results, even in the UK where interest in football is high and many wistful fans will tune in to watch Sunday's World Cup final featuring Italy and France.

The continuing escapades of Jack Sparrow and friends should outdo the original, which opened in most international markets during the period of July to August 2003 and finished on $348.5m internationally and $653.9m worldwide.

By way of comparison, the first episode generated $6m in its first weekend in the UK and $4.6m in Australia. Both debuts were number one.

UIP's animated feature Over The Hedge gets a wide platform this weekend with launches in France and French-speaking Switzerland on Jul 5, followed a day later in Germany and German-speaking Switzerland, and Brazil and Mexico on Jul 7.

World Cup fever will dent box office results in France and Germany, and possibly the Latin American markets. The picture stands at $38.6m including South Korea, where it is not handed by UIP.

Universal's 9/11 docu-drama United 93 takes off in Italy on Jul 6 but its international total of $7.9m might not get a huge Italian boost because of the national team's date with destiny in Sunday's World Cup final.

UIP releases Paramount's Mission: Impossible III in its final major market of Japan on Jul 8, when Cruise's local popularity should ensure a strong debut. The action picture stands at $206.6m.

Warner Bros Pictures International (WBPI) executives will look to solid holds for Superman Returns following last weekend's excellent launch. The Man of Steel has amassed an early $24.4m international running total.

The maritime adventure Poseidon, which currently stands at $97.5m, should cross $100m and currently stands at $97.5m. There are no major debuts for either title this weekend.

Fox International opens horror remake The Hills Have Eyes in Russia on Jul 6 on 123 prints and top brass will be looking to build on the $20m overseas tally.

Teen romance Just My Luck will need plenty of fortune to steal the World Cup's thunder when it kicks off in Italy on Jul 7 on 41 screens. The Lindsay Lohan release stands at $9.5m.

Similarly Tristan & Isolde may find their romantic entanglements cannot compete with the passion inspired by football fever when the picture opens in France on Jul 5 on an admittedly small platform of 10 prints. It has taken $8.7m through all distributors to date.

Fox International has Roberto Benigni's romance The Tiger And The Snow in a handful of markets and opens it Spain on Jul 7 on 160 prints.

Already in the market for Fox, The Omen stands at $61.5m and X-Men: The Last Stand has amassed $204.1m.

Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) opens The Benchwarmers in Italy on Jul 7 and executives will surely not expect much action that front. The picture has grossed $4m to date.

In SPRI's only other significant release, Silent Hill will unleash its horrors on Mexico on Jul 7. Latest tallies put The Da Vinci Code on $507.7m, Click on $7.2m, RV on $8.6m, and Ultraviolet on $8.8m.

X3 has done pretty good so far overseas considering it has lost so many screens there.

I think it is safe to say the movie will end with $450-460 million worldwide.

Nice find! So looks like 230 million international is possible with Japan and China plus 235 million domestic+. 465 to 470 million total. Not bad!

Personally, I think that X3 and SR will both benefit from some overflow traffic from POTC2. By the time it was around 5, everything 'til about 7:30 was sold out. And then I waited a little too long to buy my ticket and then everything through the 10:15 was taken up. I had to work tomorrow so that was the latest one I would have been able to catch. :(

Also, look at this insanity:
http://www.leesmovieinfo.net/Crowd-Reports.php

So, yeah, based on that I think there's going to be some pretty good overflow sales for all the other movies.

When I went to see Pirates there was a overflow line. The theater was so crowded and the set up these lines and there was this large group of people who were actually going to see X3 because they couldnt get tickets for Pirates. Good sign.

Wow. This is great. Thanks. I can't believe X3 surpassed X2. This calls for an X4, but of course, the studio is likely to ignore that and focus entirely on the Wolverine spin-off. :o

We've also got China and Japan (a big market $20m approx) yet to open so there are more $ to be made. Shame Fox are so obsessed with spin offs. :(

You must be ****ting me. This is amazing.

I still love you, X3, but Pirates 2 deserved the money. It was truly an awesome movie. Here's me, running to the Pirates board now. :p

Pirates 2 has gotten laughs, gasps and cheers. That happens rarely at my theatre, which was definitely a good sign. And heck, it was PACKED.

It deserved it. I can't wait to see the final result for the overall weekend opening. It's gonna be mind-blowing, I bet.

I fear for Spidey, but...must keep positive! :o

I'm not surprised at all...I'm still recovering from that madhouse that was the AMC on 42nd St last night. And still a little miffed...I've never been turned away from the place before.

I'll be seeing POTC tomorrow instead.

$55m is an amazing figure. X3's $45m doesn't seem so impressive anymore :(

There will ALWAYS be someone/thing better. :o :(

Sure it does...first one out of the gate, big holiday weekend. Still looks good.

If Superman had a bigger opening weekend (and I loved SR), I'd be a little sad about it now, but it's still an impressive opening.

But, Pirates...wow. I'm loving my Disney stock right now.
