x3 empire review and others

I was expecting am ore positive review from them. They don't so disappointed so much as...underwhelmed. Oh well.

i think their review was fair , they basically complained about what everyone whos seen it complained about, the plot not being as deep as x2 , but still they all liked it

I think this is in the review master thread. Seems to be a pretty average review.

The UK tabloids (that I have read) gave positive verdicts but it's not overly difficult to achieve that. Pretty much any action film without major flaws gets a good writeup.

X-Men: The Last Stand

Review by Margaret Pomeranz

This Marvel comic based series has spectacular special effects – but they seem a bit soulless. It’s not enough to be dazzled by the pyrotechnics of contemporary technology, you need a bit of heart.

And somehow this film doesn’t seem to have as much as the previous one in the series. This is B-grade popcorn entertainment, so you don’t expect miracles, but a bit more concern with the dare-I-say it? Human values of the mutants who are an ethical breed for the most part, would have enhanced the film enormously.

Coming from the same reviewer who gave Anacondas and Bewitched each 3 1/2 stars...

Ebert & Roeper gave X3 2 thumbs up, that is enough for me...those two are usually pretty consistent with their likes and dislikes.

It's cool that Ebert liked it. I'm reading the book and it's really good, only has a couple lines of clunky dialouge- but most of these scenes with clunky dialouge that I've noticed have been released on the net and alot of re-writes probably happened right on set.

Most chilling scene, glad the kept it is the Angel "10 years ago" scene. That was a bold move, well- I think, to show him attempting to commit suicide- or at least it came off like that in the book. And his father's reactions. It really seemd like a very well written and realistic scene

I rarely agree with Ebert, but I agree with Roeper. This is good.

They even gave X1 4/5. So they think it's not good as X1, while X1 was very weak.

//Just don’t expect it to get under your skin the way X2 did.//

X2 was far from achieving that.

I wouldn't say very weak, and I had no doubt this movie will have less "heart" to it since day 1.

please dont tear down the previous movies to say this one is amazing.

I think the biggest critism of any actor is Vinnie Jones. I think it was a mistake not to have any type of reference to his relationship to Xavier.Especially since
Xavier dies
in the film.

As you see I didn't tear it down. X2 was much better than X1, but wasn't great already because the lack of action.

And where was so much heart in X1?

As soon as people see epic action, they say something lacks drama, emotion and heart, because the epic scenes are so dazzling. I think X3's action is an extension of its 'heart' - the drama and emotion are the reason for everything. Think of X3 as the third chapter in a story. X1 and X2 lacked heart in many places, but they also lacked epic action sequences and had a slower pace. Don't let the reviewers suck you in. The Cannes review tears the film apart and says X1 and X2 'lacked a plot' (WTF) and were 'tongue in cheek' (which they weren't)

I have always been such a fan of X-Men (comic) that when the movie came out, and after seeing them, I convinced myself it's great. The same was with X2. This is the first time I am saying to myself, X1 and X2 were far from great and satyisfying (hearing such words as X2 was thirlling, yeah right, it wasn't thirlling, it wasn't suspensful, it had great effects, decent story and not satisfying action and wasn't emotional). Why did I did that, just to convince myself that I, X-Fan got great comic book movie to see. I am releaved that for the first time I admitted that. I was so stupid.
It's so sad when X-Fan isn't satsifyed with X-Men movie. Waiting for so long, and then nothing.

I hope for the best of X3, but I am affraid the result will be the same as with first two movies.

Yet again we hear this movie has no heart to it.

But can this be right? Cyclops screaming at the lake, Jean's torment, Xavier's anguish, Storm's stronger character (anger and passion)... that sounds like a lot of heart to me. I think the reviewers have not bought the basic concept of this being the climax of the war foreshadowed in x1 and X2, and that it is therefore more 'energised' as a reaction to events. I think the action is so awesome that it sticks in the mind more than the quieter scenes....

Where was all the 'heart' in X1 and X2? It sounds like two things are happening here - nostalgia making the past look good, and a resistance to change (of directors).
